- Check out the trailer for Medieval, an upcoming movie starring Ben Foster, Sophie Lowe, Michael Caine, and Til Schweiger.
Inspired by the true story of Jan Žižka, one of the greatest warriors in history. After the death of its reigning emperor, the Holy Roman Empire is plummeting into chaos while feuding brothers King Wenceslas of Czech and King Sigismund of Hungary battled for control of the empty throne. Daring and righteous mercenary leader Jan Zizka (Ben Foster) is hired by Lord Boresh (Michael Caine) to kidnap the powerful Lord Rosenberg's (Til Schweiger) fiancée, Lady Katherine (Sophie Lowe), to prevent Rosenberg's rise to power alongside the corrupt King Sigismund. Jan believes that Kings are the right hand of God and should be respected and obeyed, no matter what.
As Katherine becomes caught in a dangerous political game between the monarchs, Jan falls in love with her strong spirit and dedication to saving the people. In a brave attempt to liberate her, he fights back with a rebel army to battle the corruption, greed, and betrayal rampant amongst those clawing for power. Jan now realizes that the fate of the Empire will be decided by his love for Lady Katherine and that his fate doesn’t lie in the hands of Kings, but in the hands of his own people.
The movie also stars Roland Møller, Matthew Goode, and William Moseley.
Medieval, directed by Petr Jákl, opens in theaters on September 9, 2022.

No helmets, no formations, no colors, no smiles, totally accurate depiction of the medieval era in Europe.
Is this comment sarcastic?
@@augustybarratabulado4545 yes, most likely
@@augustybarratabulado4545 yes the movie looks terrible, from now on if the movie isn’t along the lines of outlaw king or the king then we don’t want it!
Yeah except they weren't clean like in the trailer they were nasty looking people. Looked like zombies but movies always make Europeans in the medival era look nice and hansome
😀
Ben Foster needs more roles in films. The man is underrated.
Yes he is
Yes he is absolutely phenomenal.
In 3:10 to Yuma he steals the show, even though he was acting next to Crow and Bale - which should basically be impossible.
Agreed
Damn right!!! AAA actor
Think that Warcrap movie stunted his career…what a stinker haha
I’m so happy Ben Foster is getting leading roles. The man deserves them!
Was great in "Hell or Highwater"
Ah yes. The grey and mudcaked medieval action movie.
Almost a genre in of itself.
No one has ever smiled before the common era apparently
@@dennis_duran the medieval times were in the common era.... this ain't the Hot Gates and old Persia.
My favorite genre
It pisses me off.
That's the actual problem with medieval movies today. Not made-up "problems" from chuds like "diversity" and "woke".
But no color. Even Braveheart had color.
Based on a total badass known as Jan Zizka. Zizka was blind in both eyes and around 70 years old when he fought the Holy Roman Empire under Sigismund around the turn of the 15th Century. He went undefeated in battle, which is phenomenal.
He was an amazing historical figure. This movie is probably going to mostly follow him in his early days and when he has one eye during the early Hussite crusades. Love his use of wagons and those flail weapons he developed from peasant farming tools! 👍
Well damn - youtube put up documentaries on him about 2 years back. To be seen if Hollywood respects his name.
Surprised Hollywood makes anything that isn't about Western European history, but well, not gonna complain.
@@Hungabrigoo It's because the director is Czech so he is fammiliar with this topic, but he decided to make the movie more approachable for western audience, that's why it looks like a typical innacurate hollywood film 😆
@@Hungabrigoo it is about western european history…? Literally the HRE
Ah yes the medieval era back when humanity lived inside a grey filter and everyone wore leather
Color wasn't invented yet. Nor soap.

Ben Foster been an incredible actor deserving of leading roles in big theatrical releases for so long now
My love of Michael Caine and Ben Foster exceeds my love of historically accurate medieval films.
My love of Michael Caine and Ben Foster exceeds my love of -historically accurate- medieval films.
FTFY
@@andmicbro1 they work really hard to make movies like this historically accurate. My school's CEO/production professor produced this film and he runs a production company dedicated specifically to historical films and docs. They work with historians to depict those events as accurately as they can. This film is a bit dramatized but that doesn't negate the actual stories of what happened with Jan Žižka
Who is he?
@@t0talimm0rtalz this has 0 historical accurasy, literally. It is based on 4-5 SENTENCES in historicall sources which, none of them, show anything about this part of history. It was "assumed" that Žižka fought under Wenceslaw against Henry. Because his father was part of the court, as lesser noble. Yet there is no source for that. At that time Žižka was only marked as bandit by Henry, because he... was actually robbing in his territory. Which pretty much is also explained by large documentation of Žižkas debts after inheriting his fathers estate. Pretty much nothing is known about Žižka pre-hussite war era. Only his large debts, participation in battle of Grunwald and potencial acquirement of a house in Prague pre-defenestration. And yes, this movie does not include hussite war, so the "historical precision" is simply those sources about his debts and about him being marked bandit.
@@t0talimm0rtalz Then why nothing at all in this film is accurate?
"we should make a movie about the tough medieval times, and show all the grittines and brutality of it.
"what should it consist of?"
"Gray overlay, brutal hand to hand combat, the injustices and all other harshness of the times"
"what should we call it, so everyone knows what this movie is about?"
"Medieval"
Title is made specially for mainstream audience. You know so there is no chance of them missing that this is movie with KNIGHTS IN MEDIEVAL TIMES!
What a bizarre name of the movie. It's about Bohemian history, it's about historical figure Jan Žižka. In Czech the name of the movie is called „Jan Žižka“. Not „Medieval“.
@@vsimonka No one in the US knows this name. Maybe not many outside of Czechia and Slovakia. So they had to "dumb down" the title for us.
Here in Czechia the movie is called "Jan Žižka". But you really thing that someone will visit that film of that name in USA?
@@Elandiah Because westerners don't care about mediaeval stuff except when it's about them/ Anglo-Saxons lol.

Finally a main character with a Mace and a historically accurate one.
But unfortunately the rest looks historically inaccurate.

His fantasy studded leather armor cancels out the mace. It only gets worse from there.

The movie will take place in the same time (1402-1403) and in the same country (Kingdom of Bohemia) as the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
And yet the film looks like an absolute misrepresentation of the medieval period
@@alexcolegate7345 Its funny how people know the movie before they see it, you from future or something ?

Love Ben Foster I'm glad he's getting even more recognition
As a Czech this absolutely must watch movie. Depictions of mediaeval Bohemian lands (what is now Czechia) looks really well designed with many details. Jan Žižka is a Czech national hero he is even on our currency and has a statue in Prague at Vítkov hill which is located right above Prague 3 which of course is named Žižkov after him, you probably saw his statue when you were here. Now you will know why he is remembered 600 year later.

Just platinumed the remaster yesterday and thought it would make for a great animated adaption (bar the lack of dialogue from the protagonist).
