gre8 a Catholic church I was involved in started a Peace and Justice group, (thank you Father G) which first excited me. But then we were told that we can't work on any hot button, divisive issues, so not to upset some patrons of the church, to which I understand why. But I don't think I'm here to appease wealthy church patrons. I'm here to shine a light towards the injustices done to the marginalized, stigmatized, oppressed, tortured, and disenfranchised people in society. To perhaps simply deliver a message that God has heard the cry of the poor and hates not prisoners.(Psalm 69). I recently learned that our shared humanity and our brokenness from the traumas life can bring must be healed first, if we wish to attain a more peaceful world. 🌎🌿
Truth be told my heart feels frozen and numb lately. I need to heal my own trauma, so I could revive my soul.

Graham-Dixon achieves a real tour de force in this magnificent documentary. Approaching the subject of relics and reliquaries not only from the artistic standpoint but also the historical, cultural and religious contexts is no easy task. Less so when you are presenting it all in a 60 minute documentary. The subject in itself may not be very appealing, perhaps outright dated even for many practicing Catholics like myself. Having enjoyed this video, my interest and feeling for the "Treasures of Heaven" are now renewed to say the least. And yes, contemplation of death may evoke life and vice versa. Both christian and oriental traditions of wisdom have been aware of this for over two thousand years. Dr. Carl Jung would be pleased, I dare say. Thanks Paulus, AGD, BBC and why not, CZcams.

Churches with High altars that remind me of fairground organs. I expect them to strike up 'Under the Double Eagle and the Virgin Mary figure to start playing the cymbals! You don't need a priest you don't need other "saints" to pray for you you can pray for yourself directly to God. That's why the veil of the holy of holies was torn in two when Christ died on the cross, so that we could all have access to God directly. Worshiping relics seems too much like idolatry to me, hence my confusion. Can anyone help with this problem? Explain to me why this happens? I just want to know for personal reasons.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful documentary!

Just pay attention, it's the Catholic Church, the centuries old evil side of it. It's where the church would only consecrate places of worship that had "relics" and for a certain "donation" we can give you your own relic..... do you understand where this is going? Now be realistic, people have never changed, greed inhabited churches as much as kings and thieves.

Relics aren'tworshipped....they're venerated, respected in the honorof the person who owns the relic.Interesting how they just handle that amulet that encased the crown of thorns with barehands.

The synonym for venerating is actually worshiping. So essentially it's the same thing and this act is strictly prohibited in the bible.

If you understand the word of God, you would see they are forbidden. No graven image, no idols, therefore no "objects" to redirect one's veneration, worship and reflection of and for God The Father and God the Son from that which it should be.

Good question.. the relics aren’t worshiped but are venerated.. because we believe they can heal. The early Christians believed the same thing.. and i just remembered this interesting scripture..
      Luke 8:43-48 English
43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians,[a] she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter[b] said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”

There's no need for gloves when handling most stone or gold objects. Gold isn't going to tarnish or be damaged by human contact. It's also thought that the handling of old or rare books should no be conducted with gloves either. They can do more harm than good.

I would greatly have to disagree with you. After doing some research you may find that statement utterly false and pretty disrespectful. How about the Big Bang Theory, the establishment of some of the first modern hospitals, the establishment of universities and preservation of knowledge, Genetics (as Gregor Mendell was a Catholic priest), the Church's influence of Western law as we know it( if you don't believe that look at the Declaration of Independence) and so many other things. Also how about the charity the Catholic Church gives every year(it's one of the leading givers of the whole world).
