my father in law was county road commissoner of Inyo County in early 1950ties--just north of Tecopa he built and paved the road to the Nevada state line--it created a uproar because there was a cat house just into Nevada--he was teased about it for a long time--he had no idea about the cat house...my neighbor here in Bishop used to live in Tepcopa, knows everybody but the hussy because she moved a year ago...
@@IEchuckie A road is intended to augment trading and free enterprise isn't it? This would be under the purview of the Commissioner after all. I'm certain it stimulated the local economy, lol.
I drove through there in 2017. I didn’t know it was a town, I thought it was just an RV park.
I went there once at 9:30 at nite in a windstorm hauling a trailer for a friend mine, so what I saw of Tecopa is whatever my headlights hit. Until we got to WH's house. A friend mine that was w/ me wanted to go and out there and take WH a washer that she didn't need anymore
LOVE THIS VIDEO... THANKS WH!
Wife and I were in Tecopa yesterday (11/22/22). We decided to explore China Date Ranch an hour before Sunrise, hoping to catch some photos of Coyotes and birds, but even though we walked along the Amargosa River all the way to the Slot Canyon, we only saw one slow waking Coyote.
We happened upon him sleeping under a Date Tree and he was so slow waking up, we thought he might have been injured, but after getting blood to his legs, yawning a few times, he finally scurried off. One Rabbit, a few Finches and half a dozen very large Ravens.
We explored the Slot Canyon as much as we could, we climbed up the first two rock falls, but then came to the third rock fall which was too much for us OLD FARTS to handle without equipment (68 and 65 years-old, Rock Climbing Days are behind us. The rocks we did climb turned into a Comedy Act and we found ourselves laughing at each other. Which we have enjoyed for 51 years.)
We visit Tecopa several times a year, just to get out and explore. We have not experienced the HOT SPRINGS yet.
More often than not we stop in and get Coffee and Danish at the Kit Fox Cafe. We wanted to give the STEAKS and BEER restaurant a try, but they are never open when we visit.
Weather WAS AMAZING yesterday at China Date Ranch and Tecopa... We began our walk in China Date Ranch about 4:30 a.m. and it was right around 25 degrees, but by noon, the temp was warm enough we were stripping off layers of sweaters and gloves.
Wife says she thinks it was 69 degrees yesterday, but it felt much warmer by noon.
As we were returning to the China Date Ranch from the Slot Canyon, a man and his wife were headed out to explore the Canyon. The wife was wearing an expensive/quality Safari Leisure Suite, a Pith Helmet out of every Tarzan movie ever made and HIGH HEELS. Not Stilettos, but what looked to be four inch heels.
Today explorers to the Slot Canyon are likely to see little 3-4 inch deep "D" impressions in the desert sand.
I'd place a healthy bet that she never made it all the way. Unimaginable!
You should stay at Delights or you can also get a day pass to use the pools and spas.
So it's fair to say that Death Valley is adjacent to Tecopa. The current home of the fabulous Wonderhussy. Thanks for the tour, Sarah.
Wonder Hussy’s voice is pretty raspy. Not sure if it’s from too many cigarettes or too many meat sticks.
You are wonderful! Thanks for the hard production work on your channel! 💝🇺🇸🙏👀
Have you ever been into the small local library to see if they have a local history section? Sometimes its just newspaper and magazine clippings that the librarian has filed away, but you might find out some really cool stuff that happened in past times that you would never suspect. I bet there is lots of stuff that happened out there in the small but very interesting place. I really love your speculations about what might have been or what local legend suggests once was. Please keep on keeping on! (I hope the improvements around your compound are happening to make life better for you and your sister. I can't help but wonder what interesting additions you make to your already cool home. Think: Wonder Hussy's, and sister's version of Knott's Berry Farm or something like that.)
Fine line between WEIRD and ICONIC! the laundry mat needs reopened to clean up the mud the blood and the beer! CHEERS thank you ALL stay safe
It got shut down because Wonder Hussy was washing her underwear there.
I’m here in this town now at one of the hot springs; snake pit 😅
Thank you girl, I’ve never been to the US but your guided tours are more real and genuine from a real and genuine American girl 😇
Music and passion were always in fashion at Tecopa... They fell in love...
Loved your coverage of Tacopa. You're a great story teller.
My friend Lori and her family used to run Delite's Hot Spa. Speaking of quirky and funky she said one day she was sitting on her front porch and out of nowhere this little Band of Elf like people about the size of a Gallon Milk jug came marching down the road and they were speaking in their own language! They marched down the road and disappeared into the Gem Fields at the bottom of the hill!
Love stories like that! Considering we can only see 0.005% of the spectrum of visible light, who’s to say there aren’t other beings that usually remain undetected. If someone blows a dog whistle and we don’t hear a sound does that mean it doesn’t exist? I would say no, it’s simply occurring at a frequency that is out of our auditory range.
@@AshCupric I agree I've always found that out in that Desert 🏜️ the vibe is higher somehow I also enjoy the Salton ⛵ Calipatria on the Pacific Fly way! Haven't been since 2006 but understand that Bombay ⛱️ Beach is getting to be quite a thing! With a funky Art Scene!
@@paulrom446 thanks for the suggestion, I would love to check that place out. I work for the county by day but my true passion is writing/ art so that spot sounds up my alley. My uncle lives in Death Valley and I’m hoping to go visit him this year. I’ll add Bombay Beach to my list of places to check out.
@@AshCupric Have you ever been to the Amargosa Hotel 🛏️ and Opera House? I used to stay there on vacation! It's in Death Valley Junction not far from the National Park 🏞️ boundary Cool 😎 place!
@@paulrom446 another place I’ll have to add to my list! I have actually never been to California or any western states in general. I live in Florida but grew up in New Jersey.
Wonderful storytelling as always. Reminds me of my first 3 years at Desert High at Edwards AFB back in the 60's. I loved the isolated public school with only 400 students in 4 grades. They had a great jazz band instructor that changed my life. The school mascot was the Scorpion.
You should post the phone number of that pay phone and have it become like the old Mojave phone booth where people from all over the world called it, hoping someone would answer.
Rode my Harley through the town about a month ago, beautiful day. Saw WH's house, did not stop of course. All the restaurants looked closed, it was a Monday. Very interesting ride and town. Actually worked for Inyo County about 20 years ago for three years as a DA Investigator and met my late wife there, she was a secretary in the office. Live in Las Vegas now.
That "singing " took me right back ! R.I.P. Petula.
honestly I think a LOT of what you do is indeed historical observation. LOVE it!
The old worn-out laundromat is a classic and has some character. Visit any small town in America, and if you find a laundromat it always tends to be the most run-down structure in town, the least appealing and not the place you would meet anyone famous!
I wonder who was using that pay phone and drinking Fireball? There was an abandoned mini bottle of Fireball on the ground in that phone booth!! 🔥🥃
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Sarah! Thankful for all the WH Adventure vids - informative, entertaining AND, of course, risqué (o my!)
I live in Bay Area Cali. Drove right by Tecopa multiple times without even realizing it was there when I went to visit my Mom and Aunt who lived in Pahrump. Thanks for the info on your home base Wonderhussy. You always make it interesting.
Great story teller ❤❤❤❤
Hi! Sarah: Thanks for the tour of your little oasis town.
Most of the history of these places can be found preserved in county historical society museums in books and pamphlets. Also there county records. Thank you for another fun and informative video. Happy Thanksgiving.
Wonderhussy you sure know how to tell a great story!! I love watching this channel. Your videos are very entertaining and people might even learn something. Keep up the good work.
On Monday 24 April 2023 I was at that Mill when I visited Ross at the Tecopa Mines. Got some 25 cent gallon water too. Had a wonderful visit.
I'm currently in the planning stages of a bikepacking trip from Abiquiu, NM to the San Gabriel Mission in Los Angeles, in honor of the 1829 expedition that Antonio Armijo organized to trade Santa Fe wool goods for California horses and mules,. He is credited for initiating commerce between New Mexico and California. The various routes that were traveled are known as the Old Spanish Trail, however, these were actually a collection of many indigenous trails, that connected the sparse water sources. My planned route will take me through Tecopa, so I've been checking out various RV sites to pitch my tent. Thanks for providing an informative tour of Tecopa. My goal is to ride to Baker and on I-15 to Barstow, Victorville, and Cajon Pass.
Hi, went to school across the street from the San Gabriel Mission (San Gabriel High) anyway the San Gabriel Mission is in San Gabriel! Lol
As I've experience, if you say you're in Death Valley and you're more than 6 inches out of DV some people get twisted around the axel, it's a good thing you clarified 😄
Love hearing “Wonderhussy here”, take care😎😎😎😎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Looks like a good place for UFO sightings
Thanks!
brought to you by the Tecopa Chamber of Commerce
Hi Wonderhussy. NSW Australia here. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You have such a sunny personality. You could easily be the sister of another Utube. Liz of Lake Las Vegas.
Good old joshua tree is actually technically not a tree it's a relative of the lily family . I found that out once while in search of the largest known joshua tree (which by the way is speculative as to which one that is) I see tecopa is still attempting to grow . That's fine as it doesn't get too outa control. As for the mud in the area my boyfriend was friends with the former caretaker of the springs at Delights. I was told that the mineral Bentonite was in the clay at the natural springs which has positive health properties. The old Delights had its charm with its old rustic private tubs. Sorry there's no cell signal out there still. I doubt T Mobil works out there as I am a customer lol. The electric bike looks like alot of fun . I'm enjoying your tours of the area. My British guy friend introduced me to Delights spent many a weekend out there and Shoshone.
One of the largest (if not the largest) Joshua trees lives down in LA at the Huntington Library Gardens - - well worth a visit if you're in the area, plan on spending half a day.
This is misinformation. The Joshua tree is not a relative of the lily family. That misnomer likely comes from a childrens' story about a Joshua tree NAMED "Lily," &/or it's relation to the Lily Of The Valley, which is not a true lily, but a member of the Asparagus family.
Joshua trees (Y. brevifolia) are species of the genus Yucca. Yucca is a genus of about 40 species of succulent plants in the agave subfamily of the asparagus family (Asparagaceae), native to southern North America.
@@-108- glad you're a expert then . Bottany major.? The mis information is just what I read so please forgive me for not being a "expert"
@@-108- it's just funny to me is all I'm not mad one bit its just that for 71 years I was told that it was and read it online. Sorry
@@judizzstuff Oh, my bad. I thought you were upset. Apologies. So many people get so upset over silly stuff, I tend to overreact myself. Perhaps I should take the chill pill. ;-)
6:06 - Gotta love that the Tecopa sign - telling people not to cause damage with firearms - has two bullet holes (.22) by the word "firearms."
Not so sure I'd get on the ""Death Valley" Unified School District" bus. I think my parents would have to force me to ride it.
Tacopa is right up my kind of ally. So cool !! I don't even have a cell phone or carry one. high land desert is really nice!!
Looks like it could be a fun place.
I have some dear friends who used to live in Pioneer Town here. It is an old western town up on the mountain above Yucca Valley. A lot of old western movies were filmed up there. My friends finally had to sell their place because it became a popular place for meth labs.
There is a little bar up there called Pappy & Harriett’s that had a pool table and had locals playing music there. Paul McCartney played there a few years ago after doing a headline show at Coachella. I didn’t believe it at first because the place couldn’t possibly hold more than maybe 50 people. Robert Plant has also been known to stop in, play pool and guest sing with the locals.
Another fabulous adventure!
Awesome work, great video. Thanks again!!
One of your best videos yet. Super job. !!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you, your sister and your family and friends. One of things I am thankful for is the videos you make and the knowledge you impart upon us. Thank you.
I use to go tecopa hot springs in the late 70’s early 80’s. Thanks for the memories.
What a great little town. Hope to visit one day.
My good friends, Butch and Skip, used to take me out my friends there, all the time, in the late 70's. There was nothing there, but the hot springs. It was a great place to do psychedelics . LoL
Wow! I've waited for that one for a while. I've visited Tecopa a couple times, but never got very far from the post office. Now I know where everything is. Thanks a bunch!
Thankyou for the fun and entertaining tour of your town and area that you live in. Looks like a nice place to visit and relax and hang out.

Oh , a very good episode !
Excellent Content !
Thank you , Wonder 💖 😘
Happy Thanksgiving 😁
We love your History videos , right ?
Thanks, Upbeat light hearted tour of a very interesting little piece of CA history.
Lived in tecopa in 79 when the baths were free and we partied at the snake pit...
We would gather and swim in the pool at delights...
Little Paul Watkins who at one time was a Manson follower and later became the mayor of tecopa...
I moved out there with a friend, Treva who's dad lived there and was a long time resident...
I moved to China Ranch when it was abandoned and there were only a couple little houses out there...
In 1968 my Family came out here from LV - my friend and I were 12, with my older brother and his HS buddy, my Dad, my Mom, my little sister and her little friend. Yes, the males & females were different buildings and when we heard that you had to get naked, me and my buddy were like "No way!".....but after a time we decided "What the heck!" and after the initial embarrassment, we had a great time running around from pool to pool. Most of the people there were old men for the healing waters, but we kids just had a blast running around el Buffo!
Thank you for the fantastic tour and YES enjoyed it very much!!😄 Younae a wonderful tour guide I must tell you!!🤣🤒
Love your videos. Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks for sharing your delightful pursuits! I enjoy your channel very much. Happy Thanksgiving pretty lady.

Hi Sara Jane. It was very nice to meet you on your way to burning man. This is Dede and charlie that you meet outside the echo lodge in Fallon. It was very cool meeting you.
Totally luv Tecopa! My friends and I visit there every year in March.
Happy Thanksgiving Sarah. Thanks for sharing your town with everyone. It must be nice to the most famous person in town!
So nice to hear you sing Downtown as I have 4 older sisters and one younger and in the early sixties we would sing that in the car wherever we went ! Nostalgic ! Love your tours ! I'll be out to the Alien Outpost in the desert north of you soon. ...... HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! Making some pies now in North Carolina now. .....
Love the tour. Enjoying our visit
Love your awesome tour of Tecopa! I have a hard time passing up a great little small town. You make history so fun! 😀 Annnnd now you also have me starving for Salisbury Steak and taters. Lol
I'm really glad you're having fun on your Ebike, Sarah Jane. Sure came in handy for this town tour. Really enjoyed the trip around Tecopa. I hope the town can go ahead and have their little Thanks Giving "party". Just don't invite the bureaucrats...since they seem to have a problem with the idea. Much love to you and your Sis, Darlin'❤.
Hello Sarah. It's Ted from Texas. Thank you for sharing this around town. Perhaps one day I will see the place with my own eyes. Stay safe my friend
When I'm tired of the turmoil in the news and the TV has nuttun on, I enjoy watching my favorite hussy.. keep up the good work.. ❤👍
Great job,I appreciate the history.👍
What an interesting little town you live near Wonderhussy. Also a nice piece of history about your town. Have a good Thanksgiving and eat lots of turkey. Hope the weather is also good to.
Love it! I've been there! I lived in North Edwards in 1968.
Another cool video...Thanks
I went to downtown 1st, then over to hot springs. Met owner of Therapeutic hot springs. Thought, this man has done so much work in 4 months, (he is mid 80s), maybe I should come out of retirement (78), naww, I having to much fun traveling. I can still see your tire tracks, visiting places you have been.
Great job, makes me want to move there....
gotta say again, love your story telling!
Loved the video, find it fascinating living the life out in the desert. It appears so peaceful, desolate and quiet. Expecting high winds and torrential rain on Thanksgiving here waaay out in the Pacific! Trying to get the turkey thawed out, currently under water with a cinder block on it to keep it down (Scott Peterson style) and then hopefully cooked to take to work tomorrow, provided the electricity stays on. Wishing you and your family and friends a wonderful Thanksgiving, much mahalos for all of the great videos, Aloha!
Thank you for posting another geat video .
I was surprised at how much I loved Tecopah! It is so beautiful and peaceful
Cool !!, love it ❤
Reds Roost over to Winterhaven was a active and cool place..then there was also Jacks Hootenanny bar over by the river
What a great channel. Thanks for all the cool videos
I have family that used to work at and help run that bar and restaurant with "TECOPA" on the roof tiles. I do not recall it being called "The Snake Pit" but I remember having some wild nights out there. One of my favorite New Years Eve's ever was an unexpected night spent with my wife at the Crowbar down the road in Shoshone. Thanks for the videos. So many of your videos bring me down memory lane.
I came to Pahrump in February of 1969. It rained for days on end and the area was virtually a lake bottom. I had worked for some small companies in Pahrump but eventually wound up working for the Charles Brown Company in Shoshone in the Chevron station. After several months I was approached by the mine boss at the Warm Springs talc mine in Death Valley. While working there I ran across the likes of Charlie Manson whos truck broke down in the Shoshone area and was looking for someone to repair his GMC van. He approached us at the same Chevron station I had worked at previously. We somewhat knew that he had been traveling to Shoshone to evade the law for at the time unbenounced to us, the Tate-Labianca murders His picture was all over the news that Monday as they had captured him at the movie ranch that weekend and we were amazed that we had came in contact with him. At the time all of the high school kids from Pahrump went to the Death Valley high school in Shoshone and now it's just the opposite. I was escorted out of the Snake Pit bar in Tecopa the same year because the Inyo county deputy, discovered I was only 20 years old at the time Anyway I had worked in about a 50 mile radius of Tecopa for 7 years before moving to Vegas for another 46 years or so
Yah my dad and grandma remembered when Charlie Manson and his group always came to Pahrump to get groceries. Grandma always told don't talk or look at them.
The bus was a dually manual. Was mainly drove by one of the Ward boys. The first graduate class in 1974 for the Pahrump Valley High School went to school at Death Valley but graduation as PVHS.
