A good example of an album that I believe uses predominantly a 140 plate is London Grammar’s If You Wait, beautiful sounding album.

Plate has always been my favorite. With your tips, it should sound even better (I'm not mixing in the box). Thanks.

Kush Goldplate is insanely good. Highly recommend it for folks looking to step their plate game up. The IK Fame plates are nuts too.

Awesome. Just got a specialized plate verb plugin and this was a big help.

Great video! For me, it's hard to beat Lustrous Plates, especially in terms of versatility. Also love the Lexicon, Kush Goldplate, the plates in IK Fame and Sunset Studios, and Arturia Plate-140.

@@ManchesterMusic It's one of the more CPU-intensive ones out there, but it sounds creamy as you'd expect from Kush 😄

Exponential does such amazing things with reverb! Idk, it can be loud as hell while fitting perfectly with everything

Wow. These examples really helped me and made my day. Thank you. Just wonder does this song exist? The vocal that you uses in reverb?

The problem for me is that I have used real plates in the past - EMT stereo and mono versions.
Digital simulations may mimic the general envelope of plates, but even the Bricasti M7 or my Lexicon 480L remain resolutely 'digital' sounding compared to the real thing.
There is something richer and more 3 dimensional about the real thing that is still beyond currently available simulations.

great series. i m having a hard time doing reverbs as it ends up clouding up my vocals. and i kinda suck at the sidechained reverb technique as well as i just am never able to dial in the "perfect" settings. would you make a video on that subject as well?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  Před 2 lety +1

Hey Mohit. There's a plugin called Neoverb by iZotope that automatically dials in two EQ's as part of its assistant specifically to make sure the reverb doesn't cloud up the mix, I think it's worth a demo if you want to try to address your problem: czcams.com/video/cIvKQ2ZMQtY/video.html

The funny thing is plates always remind a bit of some caves and smaller churches iI've been in terms of sound in terms of resonance and decay

  • @MusicalWizardryMarcoIannello

As brilliant as the previous video

Regarding your gain staging section here - working in Live, I like to throw a basic gain utility in front of my reverb and after, to control the input and output levels. A lot of reverbs don't have that control, so it has been pretty useful having a drop-in rack with the ins and outs pre-slotted. Plus, this gives me the ability to set a maximum level with the reverb volume slider and then automate lower levels through different sections of the song using the utility. For mixing purposes, this is pretty useful on most regular audio/MIDI channels as well.

The Plate Reverb simply has a sound on its own. This can add to your sound or not… I find myself not using Plates anymore as I want rather unobtrusive tails for downright all of my sounds.

Ok… and what are we doing wrong? Congrats on making a clickbait title promising something you never directly address, I guess, it sucked me in but also warns me away from any more
