    Love that you mentioned the Canadians, we get forgotten easily but im proud of the role we played in ww1 and 2.

      I’m a strong proponent of the Canadian contribution to the Normandy campaign. A whole army plus additional detachments and an entire designated beach for the initial landings. Sometimes overlooked I feel.

    cheers for shout out, if you want to tone down the flesh on your commandos hit them with a flesh wash. I love helping gamers get their figures on the table. I have even just painted flesh for clients as they wanted to complete the rest.
    Peace James

      Thanks, it was a brief phase I went through when trying to get figures painted quickly, I was being lazy and not paying attention so I applied all the highlight colours equally, doh! I can sympathise with those that want you to paint flesh though, if there's one thing I fear it large areas of it; I wouldn't know where to start.

    Exiles Painting have done a cracking job and your basing, decals and odd touches finishes them off beautifully. I am currently building a Nornandy 44 Canadian Platoon plus supports. For info the Canadians used their version of the Sten Gun, the Sten Gun Mk II Canadian model in Normandy. The Thompson was only used in Italy by both the British and Canadians. Love this gorgeous force and the thinking behind it, might take a look at Chain of Command, heard good things about it.

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! That might be the official line and majority usage of Thompsons but it's still not beyond the realms of possibility for personnel to have swapped/scrounged/stolen weapons outside of the normal TOE. The ambiguity is why I only used a minority of Thompsons compared to the number of Stens in the platoon. Plus it helps denote the Plt Cmdr/Plt Sgt from the other NCOs as I didn't do any alternate basing! I absolutely recommend Chain of Command, it's my favourite rule set for this period at this scale.

      @@thelastbattalion3509 don't get me wrong I'm no rivet counter and totally get why the Thompsons. When I ventured on my project I was going to go wuth Thompsons but stayed with Stens and used German discarded gear on the command bases to differentiate them as I know how they can look virtually indistinguishable from the NCOs. I wish I had picked up Chain of Command when TFL had their sale on in the summer. Might put it on the Xmas list. I've got their Infamy, Infamy and Sharp Practice rules sets, both very good indeed 👍

      When I built some British Airborne I did give a couple of those German weapons and I think I might have done that with some of the German Wehrmacht Panzergrenadiers too (Russian weapons I think). Harder to do now that Warlord have moved to moulding weapons into arms/hands. If you've got those other two rules sets then definitely ask Santa for Chain of Command for Christmas!

      Thanks - Warlord Games make the period fairly inexpensive and accessible, although the aesthetic of the miniatures is not for everyone.

    Your content is very Good. Please keep it going. Glad you‘re doing Chain of Command as well. What ruleset do you use for your napoleonic armies? Sharp Practice?

      Thanks, there should be regular content being posted for the foreseeable future! My Napoleonic collection is for a computer moderated rule set called Carnage & Glory II. However it wouldn't take a huge amount of effort to use them for another system. For Sharp Practice 2 I would just need to find a way of marking casualties due to the multi-bases.

    very nice , i think the marine commandos work well alongside the pro painted regulars .
    our group does Bolt Action and CoC using 15mm FoW figures , not as impressive as 28mm but we find they look better on our 6'x4' tables especially since even at 15mm most weapons can fire right across the table . hopefully you can do some CoC battle reports so i can see how it looks in 28mm !

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you. The joy of the additional section as a support option is that it can be a 'counts as' option. So rather than more regular infantry I have a chance to paint a section of commandos, or paras, without collecting a whole platoon of them. The downside to 28mm in terms of a realistic looking ground scale is exactly that - at 28mm Chain of Command is a pretty close quarters engagement.
