    Enya is Irish and also sings in her native Irish Gaelic language. Her family started the Celtic music group Clannad of which she was part of until she went solo in the mid-80s and had this huge hit 'Orinoco Flow' and following multi-million selling album 'Watermark'. She has sold over 80 million records world-wide.

    Love Enya's music. It is so calming & peaceful. I have a few of her cds. Enya is an Irish singer, songwriter & musician known for pioneering modern Celtic music. In 1970 several members of Enya's family formed "Clannad" a Celtic folk band. She later went solo in the 80's. She has so many beautiful songs such as Only Time", "Caribbean Blue", "March Of The Celts", "May It Be" etc.

    it's all English in this one. She is talking about places throughout the world. It's a geography lesson, as well as the history of sea exploration. The chorus of "death, death" is in respect of all the ships that were lost.

    Enya is the highest selling Irish artist after U2. She uses multiple layers/tracks of her own voice to create the lush sound. Orinoco Flow is from the excellent album Watermark which I had on cassette in the 80s. Please do Only Time (you'll know it) and Caribbean Blue next. She did the end title song May it Be on Fellowship of the Ring which is beautiful

    Enya is the best selling solo Irish artist. She also wrote "May It Be" for The Fellowship of the Ring. Absolutely beautiful music. She started with her family's band Clannad but left in 1982 to go solo. Also suggest "Theme from Harry's Game" by Clannad which was the only UK hit to be sung entirely in Irish. After that, have a listen to The Corrs! Your reactions are great!

  • @mark-nm4tc
    @mark-nm4tc Před rokem +10

    Enya had a major hit with this in the UK, late 80's. She was originally in Clannad, who hail from Ireland and had a major hit with the Theme to Harry's Game, a drama about the conflict in Northern Ireland at the time. I recall it got into the top 5 singles chart and is sung entirely in Irish. Clannad went on to do the soundtrack to, in my opinion, the best adaptation of the old legend, Robin of Sherwood. They also teamed up with Bono from U2 for In A Lifetime which is worth checking out. Her 'Storms in Africa' is pretty good too.

    Love the reaction. When the album Watermark was being worked on, no 'radio' songs were in the works because Enya was creating whatever music she felt like creating. One day while the album was being mixed the executive producer said something like 'so what, no radio song?' He was joking but they (Enya, her producer and her lyricist) didn't know that at the time and went to work on this song, came back a few days later and played it for him. That's when he said he was only joking but gave a few pointers on it. The song almost didn't make the album because they were not getting the mix right. It kept getting shelved and was the last song to fall in place.
    I think the melody was inspired by the children of her producer and lyricist playing a children's game outside the studio.
    I tried to remember how the story went 😅. Watermark is an album worth exploring, the 12 track version.
    She sang the closing song for The Fellowship Of The Ring it's called May It Be.

But as a much younger self i would go for myself constantly humming on this song,pretending that i knew the lyrics lol. Later on i bought several of her albums,absolutely love her music! Let me try to help you where you might have heard Orinoco Flow before:
    The song was featured in the 2018 animated film Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. The song was played in the background during a scene in the 6th episode of season 2 of The Boys, when A-Train was being recruited to the Church of the Collective. The song was featured in the 2021 film The Boss Baby: Family Business.
    I wish Enya was Norwegian,as i have some Norwegian heritage in me. But no,she is respectfully Irish lol. The Irish do share a thing with many Norwegians though,they live by the coast/seaside.

Nothing like this had made it commercially before (meaning there might have been other artists doing music like this, but it didn''t meet with success like this song did).
