  • One of my favourite scenes from Andrew Dominik's underrated masterpiece The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
In this scene, Jesse James gifts Robert Ford a revolver as consolation for his recent behavior.

Ive watched this movie 10 times and i just realized "youre gonna break a lot of hearts" was foreshadowing the assasination

I know the dialogue from this movie is pulled verbatim from the book, but boy do the actors make it sing in this film. Why do we not get writing in movies like this anymore?

There's another great line Jessie says in the book about not recognizing himself in the mirror, "who is this man who goes by my name?"

The revolver Jesse gives to Bob is a Smith and Wesson New Model 3. In real life, Robert Ford did own a similar model, however, many believed Robert killed Jesse with a Colt Peacemaker chambered in .44 but not a Model 3.

If he had to be killed by this punk, Jesse at least made sure it was done by a worthy weapon. God, this film is incredible.

@@lancebr02 I can't believe this scene hasn't been uploaded long before now, it is a great scene and one I think of often. I am playing Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time and just got the Schofield revolver, I immediately thought of this scene and Bob saying "Such extravagance!". I'm grateful to you for posting so I could satisfy my desire to enjoy this scene again. Thanks!

It is one of the best. The cinematography, the way so many scenes involve the old glass windows that distort both what the characters see and how they are seen, the simple but elegant dialogue...great great movie.

In my opinion this is the best movie Brad Pitt was ever in and I don't think there's very many movies as good as this one maybe and I would have to think about it I loved there will be blood and I remember loving another movie so much but it was so many years ago I think I would have to rewatch it again to make sure it was as good as I thought it was back then and I was a kid but it was called midnight express....

I wonder in real life if Jesse had an inclination that Robert was going to kill him? I doubt Jesse would allow someone especially the likes of him to kill him. I believe it was a cowardly sneak move by a weasel who was petrified of the man he robbed banks and trains with. Jesse reminds me of a person who is always intense to be around and is always menacing when even being cordial. But to kill him while he is helpless is a cowards way.

I have no doubt that Jesse knew what was to come. He knew he had come to the end of the line, but deep down he also knew that being shot in the back by a friend who only enhance his reputation. Jesse was a real smart man.

@@richardsiciliano7117 idk. Even if Jesse did know what was coming why would he want that? Unless he was suicidal and didn’t have the heart to do it himself. But it’s all speculation, unless there’s journals and written letters from Jesse and people who were close to him stating it.
