Reggie Watts: Seek Different Points of View

  • Reggie Watts (bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedian/Writer/Actor) joins us to break down his experiences with depression and psychedelics, the science behind addiction and improvisation, and his plans after The Late Late Show with James Corden comes to an end. He discusses growing up on air force bases and as one of the only POC in his town, the factors from his childhood that influenced his humor and creativity, and what the Seattle grunge music scene was really like in the 90s. Reggie opens up about experiencing depression derived from body image issues, a bottleneck in creativity, and the current state of humanity. He considers how psychedelics can be used as tools to gain self-understanding, shares the importance of incorporating transcendental experiences into everyday life, and he and Jonathan bond over their optimism about technology.

Best insightful discussion I’ve heard in a long time. I was molested by father as an adolescent and had a painful life with my narcissistic mother. I write poems about my story to release bottled up 😅steam. Then I listen to Reggie’s plasticity approach to life and I have real hope of finally healing. I’m 69. Besides the work Dr Ramani’s utube channel did helping me, Reggie has opened new possibilities for me to reframe my stuck structure to be bendable to pursue happiness. We can always learn from the younger folks.

Just starting the video, and excited to hear Reggie Watts! I use to hear him every Thursday in Seattle at the Scarlet Tree, which is no longer there. I talked with his French Mom a couple times. She was so kind. I remember her red hair, as my Mom had red hair. I spoke with him too, but he wouldn’t remember. We know some of the same musicians in Seattle, but I won’t say names. It was great to see his expanded success after moving to New York. Mac Tube was his band in Seattle! Great memories and fun times! ❤

Reggie is 11 years older than me.......and gives me lots of hope.
I sometimes freak out about getting older....especially as I'm about to turn 40 in....a few days! o_o Now? Already!?
But, SO much of that mentality comes from a nihilistic consumer culture that drains our vitality and inner light from the jump. Reggie is so incredibly....youthful. He's alive, awake, aware. It's inspiring. It's nice to know this is also a way to be a human.

Mr. Reggie Watts is an amazing person. He has been allowed to fashion himself throughout his life with amazing continuity that his parents provided. Transitioning from base to base is difficult. His ability to adjust to that lifestyle has given him the ability to adjust to almost any given situation. Congrats to his parents for supporting him and to him for his ability to cope. I could go on and on but I think everyone should be allowed to find themselves throughout childhood and into adulthood with opportunities and support from a loving and protective family. Sadly many families are just surviving these days.

Only ignorance make you deprecicate another human being. Only ignorance make you believe there are “human races”, when we all (black, white, mixed, yellowish, etc..) are members of one and only race: the human one. Only who anthropologically ignore this, is a racist. And an stupid, btw. Thank you Mayim and Jonathan for bringing us this beautiful smile to “my” podcast’s Tuesday.

Called "harm reduction" because different approaches work for different people. Period. I abused alcohol for a significant stretch of time, i was addicted to it, had to quit totally. But I don't call myself an alcoholic. Maybe I am one. But I am not a slave to this fear-based myth of total abstinence or relapse into ruin. It is one thing to humble oneself and come to terms with your own flaws and need for help, to make amends, etc. But it is almost like false idol worship to reconstruct your narrative to focus on this one aspect of life, no matter how all-consuming, to turn over one's whole identity to this label. I can see how it would add security and safety to some minds. But life is messy and ill-defined.
But who knows; certianly I could be wrong.

Different choices Mayim. You can still be “successful” - whatever that means.

The only bad thing re third love website: you cannot change bra sizes! If you have a hard time measuring yourself and make a mistake, it won't let you change the numbers. Then they send too many emails.

People dont realize how big NFTs will be in the near future... it is sad that way too many people see it as a JPEG xD but the nice thing is that that JPEG drives adoption and i cant wait to see the faces of people when they realize "Oh fk this is REALLY massive :o" and for sure is something that we really need... cuz im getting tired of over complicating solutions for stuff....
