Wild coincidence that I would encounter Sierra in a balloon with a Beldum, my Kyogre solo'd most of her team except for the Houndoom that went down with a gentle breeze, but I was happy to get a shot at another Shadow Beldum with this information at hand 👍
Confirmed. Having a 14/14/14 Shadow Metagross and another one 15/13/13 both have Meteor Mash (Elite Charge TM). They cost me tons of dusts but performing perfectly well in Kyurem raid, like super OP.
It's kinda messed up how powerful shadow pokemon are. In the lore of the game, they are in incredible pain. You would think niantic would want purified pokemon to be really powerful instead.
Such a strange decision by Niantic...the shadow forms of some pokemon may still be better than their mega-evolutions. That flat 20% boost might be hard to overcome in some cases.
Not a strange decision. You have to pay 20% more dust and candy to a) powerup them and b) buy the new move and c) in metagross case use elite TM. The price point there correlates to me very well. I made two for Kyurem raids, and they rule.
My life so far: *) Alakazam: "Psychic is a garbage move I will change it"... two years later it becomes a legacy move and get a buff making it the best move. *) Rhyperior: "I got this 100% I will power-up to be ready for Raikou's raid day"... Rhyperior got a CD. *) Team Go Rocket event: "I pretty sure that will be another event soon. I going to do raids instead wasting TMs also the -20% defense make them squishy". Now there are the best for PVP and PVE.
Also: "Low IV shadow Sneasel? Why I would ever want that?! Transfer"... now it's best ice attacker and you can't get another one T.T And: "OMG! This shadow Electabuzz/Magnemite when purified will be 100%IV? It's amazing, purify immediately!"... now as shadows would be top electric DPS and I ended with nice looking but moderately useful mons. At least I still have my shadow Raikou...
(Before Video) Personally, yes IMO. If a player has enough time to grind a good Shadow IV, they probably have enough to grind dust to power up shadows. Candy may be an issue, but I think the damage is way worth it.
I've been chasing a decent shadow beldum for a while now, today I got one with 15/15/12 ivs, after watching this video, its clear that the grind was worth it. Love the content keep it up
@@raitchison 82% is pretty good. I'm hunting Sierra on a daily basis for the past 4 days. Each day I could do up to 5 Sierra. So far none of my shadow Beldum is over 76%. The quest will continue. :)
I’ve been wanting this video for so long! Thought about it a few times, but I always forgot to bring it up. Thank you for comparing the bad IV shadow, versus a good IV normal! 🥳
In a lot of cases the defense debuff will actually have no effect. Why? - Well, if you raid a pokémon and it always takes you down with one charge move (e.g. Dragon attack against dragons), the damage down will always be the same. Even though you take more damage from the quick move, it is nullified to the point when the charge move hits. Whilst the attacks on the raid boss keep adding up, because he only faints once.
Dude you are in my head, I was just researching this very topic trying to find out an answer to these questions. I just watched your video from 4 months ago and was hoping for an update, and *BAM* new upload!
Thank you for the update. I have toyed around with the idea of powering up shadow mon, but I am holding off because anything that is this OP ultimately seems to get nerfed. Instead of being a FOMO player, I am more of an "invest only when I need to" kind of player.
Nice Shadow Beldum, i can't seem to get anywhere near a good IV one!!! Shadow metagross fainting less than the normal one was very surprising, but makes sense I don't like shadow pokemon -mostly because I am salty and didn't realise how good they were going to be when they had that tiny rocket event... it is frustrating to see them on the top of all the counters list, when very few players actually have them (but I respect why they are there performance-wise)
I appreciate a breakdown like this for people to see a logistical approach to this concept. The only other thing I would have mentioned for the future are that quite a few relevant shadow Pokémon can mega evolve, including Metagross. So that’s definitely something to consider!
I just got a 91% IVs one today and was actually asking myself if I should power it up and evolve it and giving it an Elite TM... bam The Rocket Takeover was announced and well I'm so happy it is happening now. Patience is a virtue mate
Thanks. This video has changed my mind. I'll now consider powering up my terrible iv shadow Beldums (even have a shiny shadow) and then doing that final evolution during a future community day.
Thanks a ton for this vid! It really did showcase how much better shadows can be. Only thing I'm worried about is if shadow pokemon (or even purified) will be able to become megas or not 😬
It feels like I've been saying this from the start. But we really need stardust alternatives to purifying shadow Pokemon. For something that is supposed to be better than a normal Pokemon there's very few situations where that pans out. (Or at least pan out that the purification is worth the stardust investment) The best part is if we take inspiration from the games shadow Pokemon came from, solutions are basically spoon-fed to us. I've done a couple podcasts and talked about this in greater detail several times in other places already. But to summarize two methods that could basically be copied pasted from the shadow Pokemon games include the Time Flute & the Purification Chamber. The Time Flute would be the easiest to put into Pokemon Go since it's a consumable item that lets you instantly purify a shadow Pokemon. They are insanely rare in Pokemon Colosseum (the 1st shadow Pokemon game), so it wouldn't be that far of a stretch to make it rare in Pokemon Go. One of the ideas I've thought of with implementing it is a monthly special research that basically takes you through the process of purifying a Pokemon in main series game to the best of Pokemon Go's abilities. This wouldn't be too hard because a lot of those processes already exist in Pokemon Go. Walking & battling alone are huge parts of shadow Pokemon purification and are core aspects in Pokemon Go already. incense that help purify Pokemon in the main series games could translate to a step relating to feeding your buddy berries. Taking AR shots to encourage you to go out in nature, just like how all purification takes place at a chamber deep within a forest. The list goes on, but the point is a lot of these element can transition over to Pokemon Go. The purification chamber is a whole other, even longer and complicated story and this comment is already long as is. But if you're curious I encourage you to Google it. Though there's even simpler things they could do to make purified Pokemon more valuable. Like bend the rules to make Return dependent on your Pokemon's type or give us access to legacy moves when purifying a shadow Pokemon. The prior alone would make purify Pokemon much more valuable for raiding because Return is a strong move, just hard to recommend when STAB is so valuable for raids.
Thanks for the vid, this was reassuring. I got a shiny shadow beldum, but the IVs were garbage so I wasn't sure if it'd be very useful. Clearly it will be lol
Thank you, Famous, for breaking it down to where I can wrap my brain around it. I would selectively power up shadow Pokemon. Metagross would be the first one I would do. If there are others that get such a buff in power as Metagross, percentage-wise, I would consider those too.

I spent most of my beldum candy already on maxing out regular metagross, but I think I'm going to switch direction and invest my future beldum candy into this guy. I don't think I'll have one available for me for a while since maxing it out will cost ~500 candy (plus evo) and I don't want to use an elite TM just yet either.
@FLW Videos Thank you for getting this out there. I have been trying to explain this to people for a while, but visuals always help. At the last Rocket event, I did TM my be three shadows, but unfortunately two of them are CD Mon (Larvitar and Mudkip) that will require waiting until December or using an Elite TM.
This is so helpful!! I have a shiny shadow beldum with pvp stats (low attack, high D&S) and I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it! Now I know it is! Thank you! 🙏🙏
Good thing Sierra blessed me with a 15/14/5 and a 15/15/7 shadow beldum, one a little while ago, one just now on the balloon before her pokemon swapped, thanks to this Sunday I'm gonna have 2 amazing raid attackers once the CD moves are available again ^^
Oh fine. Bring out good info. Make me go back and watch your last video again to see which boss will give me which shadow pokemon. Force me to do work! 😉 Thanks, man!
Nice video, those results were shocking! My problem with Shadow Pokémon is 1. As a player middle of nowhere, if those balloons are rare, there is no other way to get shadow Pokémon, and 2. I am always low on Stardust and candy, so those cost hurts...
My Go Fest was awful in general terms, grinded both days, got 6 shines (2 of them repeated). I recall before turtwig community day niantic had an announcement that said community day moves could be acquired only by purified and normal pokemon; if I'm not mistaken, I haven't heard of a change to that besides the one rocket event.
All this video did was smash the nail on the head of how powerful a meteor mash metagross is. Now that shadow version is just as amazing i have sooooo many regrets on that community day not being able to get as many and now wait yearly for the special move! Shadow meteor mash metagross. I already use Regular meteor mash for league and it is a monster. Hopefully I won't need any elite TMs for this. Great video!
Great video! I'm really lucky to have caught a hundo Shadow Beldum! It's already best buddy and almost maxed out! Unfortunately out of Elite Charged TMs atm, so have to wait a few months.
Hell yeah the shadow beldum have been my main focus. I want a full decent team at least max atk n maybe 10 10 in rest of stats I k ow will take a lot of farming but I've all ready got a 98% 1 which took for ever to get lol
People also forget that the decrease in Defense actually ends up helping Shadow Pokemon because the more damage you take from moves in PVE, the faster you generate energy for your charge moves. Take for example Gengar, who has reigned supreme as the DPS king against Psychic-type raid bosses because of its high Attack AND glassy defenses, which means it's reaching Shadow Balls almost immediately. Shadow Metagross is extremely spammy because of this, which is why it's able to take down raid bosses so quickly. It also helps that Metagross is already very tanky so the decrease in defense doesn't end up mattering as much as something like a Shadow Weavile.
I’ve been sitting in a 14/12/14 shadow Beldum for a few months now....asking myself this very videos question. Thanks for the info and research, gives me a bit more confidence in investing in it.
Feels bad, I had this 13/13/13 Shadow Charmander which I got a year ago and I purified/evolved into 100% Charizard with Blast Burn - now I'm hoping that purified version have something to do with Mega evolutions and their X/Y versions since shadow pokemons are so strong...
I think this needs some kind of rework, especially when in the past shadows were useless. Because of that, we were encouraged to purify our high IV shadows, which screwed us after the buff
I really still hate the idea of shadow Pokémon. It feels like a cheap gimmick at getting you to invest in the same Pokémon with a boost in attack for more stardust cost. Some are pretty big differences in dps or are pretty useful over the normal forms in pvp.
Treat this as a non-essential luxury mon only when you have enough SD & candy to spare (a rich man's toy). :) One thing for sure this Shadow Metagross indeed looks really CooL! If there is only ONE shadow pokemon in your entire collection that worth your attention and investment, this is it! :)
Wow....this is mindblowing! Honestly, I wouldn't have ever though that Metagross is so powerful in shadow if not for your tests! Thanks! I only didn't fully get - if you evolve a shadow beldum during the december Cdays, will it turn frustration into Meteor Mash or you have to TM it away before that during the special rocket event?
I have a 1/14/12 shiny shadow Metagross maxed out best buddy with Meteor Mash and it’s my number one favorite Pokémon in my collection absolutely love it
Yup, shadow pokemon are strictly better. Sure, some are very expensive, require an Elite TM but there are plenty of other options: Dragonite, Gardevoir, Magnezone, Weavile, Electivire are all amazing... and just wait for the December recap
Do you have to Elite TM over to get the community day move? I Evolved my shadow Beedrill on community day and got Aerial Ace :/ . I can Elite TM over to it now though (but could not on community day). Should I have reached out to support?
I’ll use Kyreum as an example. Shadow Metagross takes Kyreum down faster, but it doesn’t take it down to a trainer breakpoint (still need at least 2 to beat it). Other than efficiency there isn’t an incentive to power one up compared to a lucky community day. While pokebattler has a 90 second difference, that benefit becomes less and less with more trainers. Overall, there isn’t a lot of incentive to power up a lot of variety of Pokémon at this point for raids.
More interested in the overall look of Shadow Pokemon than anything else. The moves/boost are just a bonus. Still upset about the limited event for switching away Frustration. Not cool Niantic...not cool -_-
Do you think it is going to be possible to TM away frustration before the communiry day and then evolve beldum to have access to meteor mash during CD?
Actually some kind of reasons why I think purified is better cuz its defence goes down and almost every deck has a pokemon that can counter steel type (like dialuga, melmetal, and metagross). So if you fight with the counter, you'll just be melt before using meteor mash.
Would this work? Using a tm on a pre evo shadow mon to remove frustration during a rocket event and evolving it later during a community day to get a special move. Or would the evolved mon relearn frustration again?
Yup, shadow pokemon are strictly better in raids. Some of them need elite TM but there are plenty of options that don't: Dragonite, Gardevoir, Magnezone, Electivire, Weavile are all amazing ... and just wait for the December recap.
I just boosted up a 93% IV Shadow Metagross with Meteor Mash to lv30. So worth it imho on some pokemon, especially Metagross and certain legendary. I wouldn't do it if your shadow pokemon isn't at least in the 90% or higher personally.
Rewatching. It makes me wonder though with the megas coming out soon if they really are going to be worth it. If the shadows dont get megas then they will just get put back down under the normals
So I have a rank 8 great league shadow charizard thats also a rank 13 in the ultra league as a shadow as well is it worth using an elite charged and elite fast TM to get wing attack and blast burn for it? Or should I wait for something else
I have a terrible iv shadow shiny beldum. I'm going to max that one out over my multiple decent iv regular shadow beldums simply because of how rare it is
Great Video and Info!!! One Question, When Did The Cp's Change on the Shadow Beldum!? I Have a 319CP Shiny, and I saw Ur 335CP or Something, But The Hundo Shadow Beldum is Now at 220CP!?
Also worth to note when metagross gets the 20% buff to attack, but 20% debuff for defense, I think it's better to have the shadow beldum of high defense rather than high attack to correlate the loss in defense... The percent gain is more that way for the defense. Also Shadow Machamp is making a debute, and it wrecks the fighting scene once again! (except for Kyurem since Lucario resists so well).
What about shadow Tyranitar? I have a decent shadow IV 11/15/13 one but do you think it's worth evolving and powering up? Or just purify it to get a 93% one?
My question is this. Should I keep at least one of every shadow I get without any worry about the IV's? based on this saying that a 0% shadow being better than a 100% regular I would think that having at least one shadow of everything no matter the IV would be a wise decision .. but only leveling it up if I have the extra candy and dust.. but for sure leveling up the great ones.. Is my thinking correct or not? thanks
I have a maxed out 100% shadow Arcanine. I am now building a shadow ultra team with a rank 7 shadow swampert, a rank 10 shadow beldum and trying to find my last mon.
I think the stardust cost is to much, considering the raid system is so broke. It takes almost no skill other than tapping. If we could dodge effectively, and there was some strategy, id be willing start maxing a team out. I do have one for UL though...
what website are you using to generate that 6 metagross page. i want to compare my shadow metagross (1 star been hunting a 3 forever) against a 3 and see if i should just say screw it and upgrade my 1 star
If you understand how shadow Pokemon work/differ from refular Pokemon the comparisons start at 03:07 !

Got a shiny shadow 15/14/15 metagross already maxed out. Can't wait for rocket takeover
Great video!
I'm really lucky to have caught a hundo Shadow Beldum! It's already best buddy and almost maxed out!
Unfortunately out of Elite Charged TMs atm, so have to wait a few months.
Not even, if the pattern continues then next community day (after Gastly) will have a Elite Charge in a box
Hell yeah the shadow beldum have been my main focus. I want a full decent team at least max atk n maybe 10 10 in rest of stats I k ow will take a lot of farming but I've all ready got a 98% 1 which took for ever to get lol
Great video, thanks! Really useful info :-)
Thanka for the info. Helps a lot
This is one of those things that someone needs to have a completionist mindset for. An insane grind for an insane Pokemon
Been wondering what to do with my shadow Entie, appreciate the video!
Really amazing content.Unique and informative content like these is what we really need.
Nice vid
I've powered up my 73% IV Shadow Snorlax without Frustration.
So, very happy to hear it's better now
It's my baby 🥰
I’ve been sitting in a 14/12/14 shadow Beldum for a few months now....asking myself this very videos question. Thanks for the info and research, gives me a bit more confidence in investing in it.
Just watched this again. Thanks for the info
Feels bad, I had this 13/13/13 Shadow Charmander which I got a year ago and I purified/evolved into 100% Charizard with Blast Burn - now I'm hoping that purified version have something to do with Mega evolutions and their X/Y versions since shadow pokemons are so strong...
Yeeees 💕
I have shadow victreebel for gbl 💕 2nd charge move unlocked. Shadow pokemons are awesome, worth a try to invest on one.
Really really cheap move.
Love shadows broken since most shadows are more powerful then megas. But overall great idea for the game i love doing rocket battles
I need to get me one of those. I have a shadow Tyranitar best buddy with Smack Down. It’s a beast.
Venelin Bakalov you have to TM frustration away during special event, then evolve during Dec Cday. Alternately, use an elite TM.
I have a 1/14/12 shiny shadow Metagross maxed out best buddy with Meteor Mash and it’s my number one favorite Pokémon in my collection absolutely love it
Congrats you can now tm those shadows this Sunday!
Yup, shadow pokemon are strictly better. Sure, some are very expensive, require an Elite TM but there are plenty of other options: Dragonite, Gardevoir, Magnezone, Weavile, Electivire are all amazing... and just wait for the December recap
i didnt realize the rocket pokemon would change up and blended all my shadow beldums :(
Do you have to Elite TM over to get the community day move?
Hmm I have a 10, 11, 15 shadow beldum. Might have to look into unlocking a second charge move and using an elite TM. only 240 beldum candy atm though.
Enlightening!
Thank you
More interested in the overall look of Shadow Pokemon than anything else.
The moves/boost are just a bonus.
Still upset about the limited event for switching away Frustration.
Not cool Niantic...not cool -_-
You could say it's... frustrating?
Do you think it is going to be possible to TM away frustration before the communiry day and then evolve beldum to have access to meteor mash during CD?
Actually some kind of reasons why I think purified is better cuz its defence goes down and almost every deck has a pokemon that can counter steel type (like dialuga, melmetal, and metagross). So if you fight with the counter, you'll just be melt before using meteor mash.
Very insightful video!
Interesting video. I’ve got a 0/15/15 shadow Metang and might evolve that
Lol same, thank god I didnt purify it
Dude, this channel deserve 1M subs with it wonderful content
wait a second.. is there a pogo chanel with 1m subs?
@@booostunitc4843 all you need is FLW.
I got a 15 15 13 shadow beldum the other day. Premier league isn't ready. Great video FLW. Thank you
Grinding for that since months now, all I get are 1 stars!
Shadow Metagross is strictly worse than normal Metagross in the premier league. Don't waste your stardust
I just caught a Shadow Beldum with 13/12/13 ivs on the first day of Rocket Balloons. I'm seriously thinking of using it now.
I just boosted up a 93% IV Shadow Metagross with Meteor Mash to lv30. So worth it imho on some pokemon, especially Metagross and certain legendary. I wouldn't do it if your shadow pokemon isn't at least in the 90% or higher personally.
I just evolved mine. My shadow meta is almost 100% iv. Did not even know that. Ty for the video
Same here, I caught a koffing from James and it was a 3 star iv. Once I pure it, it went to a perfect iv.
I got a 1 star shiny shadow metagross. Still gonna use it as a flex in master league
@@JL-cj7cu wtf dude?????
C G why would you pure a 3 star koffing, you just made it worse
I just join in like 3 weeks ago. Isn’t a 100% better than a 3 star?
Rewatching. It makes me wonder though with the megas coming out soon if they really are going to be worth it. If the shadows dont get megas then they will just get put back down under the normals
Can you please do a similar video on Tar and some other hard hitting regularly used valuable mon. I would be most interested.
So I have a rank 8 great league shadow charizard thats also a rank 13 in the ultra league as a shadow as well is it worth using an elite charged and elite fast TM to get wing attack and blast burn for it? Or should I wait for something else
This is awesome. I have a 1 star shiny shadow metagross.. Thanks for the info.
"..if you want to develop a deeper connection.... " said no one ever in this video :p
This is eye opening. Now I'm going to hunt down Sierra and keep all shadow Beldums.
I have a terrible iv shadow shiny beldum. I'm going to max that one out over my multiple decent iv regular shadow beldums simply because of how rare it is
Gives too much of an advantage. I can see a 5 or 10% increase in power but not 20%. Thank you for your video, it was great as always.
Right! Btw I will be doing a deep dive on it today
This is why I watch this channel. Superb content.
What about shadow Tyranitar? I have a decent shadow IV 11/15/13 one but do you think it's worth evolving and powering up? Or just purify it to get a 93% one?
I've got a shiny shadow Beldum.
I will also wait for December and hope to evolve it with Meteor mash
Notice some of the top shadow Pokemon in this instance have higher defense to begin with, so the defense goes down to a normal level
Is Tyranitar good in Great League? I got a rank 65 Shadow that I'll probably TM frustration on the 12th if it's worth it.
I’m using a 3 star shadow sandshrew in great league but if 0% shadow Pokémon can really out perform 100% Pokémon then I might evolve that Larvitar
Is my thinking correct or not? thanks
I have so many good level iv shadow Pokémon I’m just holding on and waiting
I have a maxed out 100% shadow Arcanine. I am now building a shadow ultra team with a rank 7 shadow swampert, a rank 10 shadow beldum and trying to find my last mon.
I think the stardust cost is to much, considering the raid system is so broke. It takes almost no skill other than tapping. If we could dodge effectively, and there was some strategy, id be willing start maxing a team out. I do have one for UL though...
Trying to figure out if should max my shadows or save for battle league. Any tips?
lol~ Shadow Metagross has perfectly define the meaning of "Attacking is the best defense" when facing kyurem~🤣
9 15 15 so far is my best shadow beldum. Tempting but I'm going to keep trying
what website are you using to generate that 6 metagross page. i want to compare my shadow metagross (1 star been hunting a 3 forever) against a 3 and see if i should just say screw it and upgrade my 1 star
