    As much as I love your reviews and have been following you for years, please talk about customer service reliability and parts replacement.
    I've bought my shark apex vacuum years ago due to your awesome review. However, when it comes to ordering replacement parts the Shark company has failed in this aspect with customer service support. This has been a frustration since then and I'm weary of wanting to buy a new vacuum from Shark.

      Honestly, there are much better cleaning and more reliable machines than Shark. Shark designs these to fail and then doesn't honor the warrantee or provide replacement parts. I would recommend the Dyson Ball Animal 3, Amway Workhorse, Sanitare SL4110A, or if you want something cheaper a bagged Bissell Powerforce. All these will work better than any Shark, and they will provide replacement parts and honor the warrantee if it fails which is not as likely with these.

    I gotta say, the hose Shark uses for their hand tools is awful.
    It's so stiff that if you pull on it to extend it, it pulls the vacuum onto the ground. Dyson figured out how to make a hose that extends without pulling the vacuum over a decade ago.
    Other than that, their vacuums are amazing. I've had the Apex since it came out and it's been a champ.

      I agree with the Dyson having a longer hose, having said that the hose on it has deteriorated and has tears in it. When I tried to order the replacement hose online it said it was out of stock. So I went with the Stratos upright, so far I’m very happy with it. Only time will tell how long it will last me. The hose on the Dyson lasted me about 2 years before it started to have rips throughout it.

    Lots of unnecessary features that’s are not needed on a corded vacuum like the dirt detect and edge cleaning. These are crucial for battery stick vacuums where battery life and power consumption count, but corded vacuums do not need to ramp up and down to save power so running at 100% power negates those 2 features. I’ll stick with my Shark Vertex. (Which I bought based of your review) - keep up the good work!

      Hello, I am the power detect product design manager, thanks for your comments, at the beginning, I had the same thoughts as you, but finally we think this new feature will do help users to improve push/pull force feeling, since most time, if your home is not very dirt, the vacuum will run at a lower suction which can help decrease push/pull force and this is a big challenge for Shark previous upright products

  • @n123896
    @n123896 Před měsícem +9

    I purchased the Shark Vertex. At first I was really impressed. But after over 2 years of using it I can identify a lot of things I dislike about the Shark.
    1. The hose is too short. It tumbles over and can’t reach everywhere. I know it can be used in lift away mode, but that gets heavy. I much preferred having the long hose on my previous Dyson upright and not carrying the machine around.
    2. The power fins are great for hard floor. But, the machine does not groom carpet nearly as well as a traditional brushes especially thick carpets.
    3. The pre filters seem to get dirtier much quicker than my previous Dyson.
    4. The dirt cup is messier than expected. Also hair and other gunks often get wrapped around the metal cone on the top of the bin and then you have to reach in and pull it all out. This sometimes happened on the Dyson but not nearly as often. I think Shark improves the design since my model but the rectangle tank is not as good as round. Things don’t just fall out you have to reach and pull it out if it’s close to full or if there is a lot of hair and not heavy debris.
    5. The attachments do not work nearly as well as other vacuums. For example, the power fins on the handheld pet hair tool are weak. If you’re cleaning car carpet that are really dirty the power fins do not groom the dirt out. The only reason it spins so fast is because they are hardly touching or grooming anything they touch. I found the Dyson attachments to be far superior for actually cleaning. Also the
    handle makes it hard to maneuver in tight spaces. The crevice tool also has like spikes on it and it scratches things if you’re not careful.
    6. While the brush roll is self cleaning for hair you cannot take it apart to clean it or get objects unstuck. Only the front roller comes off. If stuff gets stuck you got to hope you can poke something in there to get it out otherwise I guess you’ll have to call Shark? We have had wrappers and other things get vacuumed up and you have to tinker with it for several minutes to try to get it unstuck from the back brush. Also, you have to regularly clean the front roller because it gets build up. Having a brush that just pops out is easier to maintain.
    If you have only hard floors and don’t do much above floor cleaning they are great! But if you plan to vacuum traditional carpeting or do above floor cleaning I’d suggest considering a different brand. The power lift away is great for quick cleaning but if you plan on cleaning stairs, cars, couches, curtains, ceiling fans and etc you’ll quickly realize a long hose is superior to a short hose with a heavy machine to try and carry. This also applies to the Dyson hand held it seemed great at first but it’s actually very tiring trying to carry it around to clean. I will go back to a more traditional upright next time I get a new vacuum.
    Just my opinion 🤷

      @gagelibbey4872 Před měsícem

      I'd say get a miele or a sebo, they have uprights but the canisters are the way to go. Just so you know they're very expensive compared to these and I could understand someone not spending 4 figures for a vacuum. But the miele/sebo will last 10-20 years and they're known for being some of the most powerful and best cleaning vacuums, and super quiet. They're also bagged vacuums but bagged are better tbh there's a lot less maintenance, no cleaning canister required, filters hold up a long time, and they hold they're suction power.

      @QH96 Před 22 dny

      @@gagelibbey4872 sebo should make a vacuum, that combines the feature of a Shark with best of a Sebo. The company seems to be sitting on its hands. A powered lift away sebo felix with a long hose, built in pole, lights, anti hair wrap fins, anti hair wrap comb, washable hepa filters, etc. would be awesome. the x7 is dead on arrival because it doesn't have a microswitch to turn its brush roll off when its upright. @@Tar0245 that’s a great point, I just didint give this video the full focus it deserved when I watched it thank you for clarifying it for me, yeah that’s definitely a killer and super unfortunate, I’ve heard from the “technical reviews” guy who seems to be a vaccum technician, that shark has a weird tendency with making small bristles, which doesn’t allow for good carpet agitation, which is what you really need for deep cleaning carpets. I’ve also heard the duo clean function makes it harder to deep clean carpets as well having that front brush roller on it.
      One cool thing with this shark however for me is it’s crazy high suction. That’s kind of nice but disappointing when you realize that he mentions a wide air suction nozzle making the suction less effective when outside of a vaccum sealed space ):

    I hate that some manufacturers are doing this "detect" stuff. Why wouldn't you want full power all the time?
    99% of the time, the up and down of power kills the motor faster and usually doesn't work very well. My Ryobi lawn mower is a great example. If it comes across a thick part of grass, it cranks the power up but because it has a ramp-up time, by the time the speed reaches its peak, you're already past the thick part and have to go back over it. It's ridiculous.
    These features are along the same lines as auto start/stop in cars. It doesn't really help, it only burns the engine out faster.

No novel information or testing, just parroting manufacturer points and features. Vacuum wars' perspective, as he used to say, is one of the owner of a cleaning company. It's clear his company uses cheap sharks that they buy cyclically for the business. Better cleaning companies use Mieles. Even from that perspective he has blind spots, which he no longer readily admits as he used to.

    I am thinking the edge suction feature is to try and make up for its lack of edge cleaning brushes. Still no removable main brush and no type of cyclonic filtration to keep the filters clean. All the extra detect features make me fear this being a reliability nightmare but maybe I am wrong. Interesting to see it has lesser crevice and carpet pick up than the Stratos. Still it looks very blucky and like the hose and handle design hasn't changed meaning the turbo tool is still super awkward. Dyson Animal 3 over Shark Power Detect any day!

    I said the same thing in my review! Best Shark upright Vac Ever. The Key for the DETECT feature is that the VAC changes speeds and power on its own. So you can vacuum the whole house without having to change any settings. Seems like a small thing but when you use it, it really does help with performance. Great review!

Should I exchange my Stratos for this one? I haven't even taken my Statos out 9f the box yet!! PLEASE DO A MORE DIRECT, SIDE-BY-SIDE COMPARISON OF THE STRATOS TO THIS NEW POWERDETECT. I bought the Stratos Upright Corded Liftaway with the Pet Hair feature. It came with a free Power Mop. With discounts, I paid $369.00 for it during a Shark holiday promotion over 4th of July online. DO YOU THINK THE POWER DETECT IS OVERALL BETTER THAN THE STRATOS, FEATURE BY FEATURE? Someone please advise me, before I start using my new Stratos! 🙏

      @@jcremere9959 Keep your Stratos. The Power Detect is just a quality of life 'upgrade' over the Stratos (which was just a QoL upgrade over the Vertex), while the performance is basically the same. The only meaningful feature the Power Detect has over the Vertex or Stratos is that it automatically changes between carpet and hard floor modes, it's a manual setting on the older models.

    Most people don't vacuum slowly like that. They want to get it done quickly, so they push and pull A LOT faster.

    I wish youtube woukld allow people to post videos or pictures in the comments. I bought this vacuum based on this review. The Powerdetect system is garbage. All it does it vary the speed of the motor at the wrong time. We have hard floors and rugs with low pile. As soon as I get on the rugs the Shark immediately sucks up the whole rug and buches it up and then turns red and stops running. I just bought this vacuum and will be giving it or more likely throwing it away as soon as I order something else. Ive been vacuuming houses for over 40yrs using several dozen machines. This is one of the worst.

    Sharks are relatively cheap and offer good suction, but their dirt separation and filtering capabilities are absolutely terrible. There's no real cyclone separation, so it relies solely on the HEPA filter to stop all the microscopic dirt and bacteria from flying back into the air. This leads to needing regular filter changes and poor total dust collection. In comparison, any modern Dyson is many magnitudes more advanced. If you care about that kind of thing, the extra price for a Dyson is worth it, especially since you can often find them on sale. If you do get a Dyson, make sure you empty the bin if any amount of dirt reaches the MAX line. The advanced filtration relies on the dirt and debris being below that line. And for what it's worth, I've had a fair share of Sharks, and my two older Dysons have both outlasted them by quite a few years. They're well-made and built to last if you keep up with the basic upkeep such as emptying the bin as soon as any dirt reaches the MAX line like I stated previously.

      Many people use the hose for above floor cleaning, where airflow at the hose matters.

    • @AverageReviewsYT
      @AverageReviewsYT Před 9 dny

      @reaperreaper5098 not as important as trying to extract dust from a literal filter on the floor. Sucking up webs and bust bunnies is easy compared to extracting sand from the bottom on the pile.

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 Před 9 dny

      @@AverageReviewsYT Other way around. Suction and airflow at the head doesn't matter that much, the floor head does the majority of the work. You just need enough flow and suction to collect debris, which isn't much. Too much, like older flagship Sharks and Dysons have, and you can damage certain carpet and rug types or lock the vac on the floor. They'll literally suck the carpet/rug into the head, and both companies have had to release designs that divert flow.
      Whereas suction based tools and unpowered tools are much more heavily dependent on flow and suction.

    • @AverageReviewsYT
      @AverageReviewsYT Před 9 dny

      @reaperreaper5098 other way around. It needs to be a balance of agitation vs suction to maintain the airflow through the carpet. Too much agitation and it shreds the pile, and coupled with low air flow, results in cheap vacuum performance lol.. you need as much airflow as possible through the pile and a brushroll that performs within a correct resonance. Either way, airflow matters more at the head where it's fighting to pull debris from the trapped pile vs dust bunnies on a shelf lol

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 Před 8 dny

      @@AverageReviewsYT What you've said is not true, at all. Thankfully, you're not a vacuum reviewer or manufacturer.
      Many reviewers have shown that vacuums with modest air flow and suction at the head will outperform vacuums that have poor head designs and high suction/air flow numbers. Because suction and airflow doesn't extract embedded dirt, agitation does. All the vacuum needs is enough air flow to carry that lifted dirt to its container.
