Professor Phineas is one of the very best and genuine experts of this show. Unfortunately we rarely see him but every time I really enjoy his presence.

If the statue is from India and its 100's of years old(and authentic), there's a 90% chance it was stolen by brits.

I am from India and at first look I didn't find the statue familiar. It was interesting to see how expert elaborate the details.

5k is alot of money. Even alot of roman antiquities don't sell for that much. You have to think for the average person 5 grand is an entire months pay.
It's all about market demand. Old doesn't necessarily mean extremely valuable. Case in point: someone apparently paid $1,000,000+ for Pokémon cards.

I grew up being taught about antiques and how things age. You can tell that's a fake merely by looking at how bright the etching is and how there's no variance in the patina.
