My biggest fear is the company will take this one win as conformation that they don't really need to change or go back to how they use to make films, so they'll just end up making more crap.

They don't want to change and are still fine with losing money. Once in a while, they allow something like Deadpool or produce one animated film for children that doesn't make everyone throw up immediately. Speaking for myself, at this point, I'm done with sequels no matter how good they might be. And I don't find animated films that interesting, maybe with a few exceptions like Puss in Boots Last Wish. But that was Universal and unlike Disney, they still try not to crap on their customers almost all the time.

I think you have had to see the first movie to really understand what was happening in IO2. BO Office-wise, who are they (Disney) aiming IO2 at? It's a girl's movie, so you have already lost half your audience. It's a sports movie about Ice Hockey, more audience lost. It's very heavy on dialogue. It's to old for toddlers to understand and not be bored. The animation was not as good as the old Pixar movies. Most of the backgrounds were static fuzzy images. I'm a huge Disney fan, but I was disappoinred with this movie.

yeah I'm in canada, and there are tons of girls hockey leagues here, but it often seems to me (my sister was a figure skater so i spent a lot of time at the skating rink) that most girls who play hockey do it to impress their dads or to be included because their brothers play hockey.

Her older sister (closer to me in age) was in figure skating when we were kids, but when the younger one was born (and turned out to be a girl), her dad said she was going to play hockey. She was in hockey at an early aged and played right through university as well. As a young adult, she still plays in beer league tournaments, but now plays co-ed. It was going to be a shabbily animated sequel because Pixar didn't want to do sequels. But as they developed it, they loved the story that they had come up with so much that they felt it was worthy of the big screen treatment, and the sequel actually greatly upped their game. I wonder if the success of this movie would finally convince Disney that “good movies” do better than preachy ones.
Yeah, girls hockey in SF is kinda weird, but so are talking cars. I can accept that part.
The diversity in the girls’ groups? That’s actually fairly realistic in SF these days. I wouldn’t say it was so much so where I grew up, when I grew up.
And it’s kinda funny to go to actual Disneyland and see that almost NONE of the groups of people walking around together are remotely diverse.
But, in this movie, they didn’t villainize the *straight white people” or portray any sexuality at all, other than kinda poke a little fun at silly crushes.
Even the dad was pretty well done. When’s the last time you could say THAT about a Disney movie?
I hope they take the hint. I’m a Disney kid and I love pretty much all the classic stuff up til about the 90s.
If they’re gonna keep on with their bullshit, well… let the market decide. 😅😅😅
But I’d love to see them right the ship and make good stuff again.

I believe in voting with my wallet. But I’m on the fence regarding good movies from horrible corporations - specifically Disney.
Do I give the company I hate money? Because I want them to fail into bankruptcy.
Or do I give them money when they do good, non-woke projects, hoping to condition them to recognize that good movies will = dollars, and garbage films = fan apathy and lost opportunities?
I’m probably going to choose door #3. Watch their good content on the high seas.

I saw it, and LOVED it. I noticed the "diverse friends", but that's literally as woke as it gets. I think there mayyy be a joke about if your kid dyes their hair, it means they're gay, but it was said as a bad thing, not a good thing. Very un-woke film compared to the rest of Disney's lineup, and I LOVED the villain of this film so so much. Tons of metaphors and deeper meanings throughout the film as well, very clever movie.

I dont think it's back. After all, Inside Out cost 250 million. So they need something like 600 million to make the money back. I think they will do so so. I also think that the audience for this isnt really that huge. However, they came up with something that appeals to women, and omen will go see it.

  • @zillauniverse7208

I thought it was pretty darn good movie and theirs a good reason why it’s doing so well at the box office right now because theirs no hidden agenda being push and theirs no villainizing audiences either it’s just simple good family movie by having a universal message that anyone could relate to which just feels so alien to come out of Disney nowadays but unfortunately the only thing Disney is going to learn from this movie success is making sequels instead of good family movies.

Pacific Girls Hockey League is a thing, and San Francisco specifically does have some programs like you're describing. I don't know how popular it is now, but we used to have a pretty significant young girls ice hockey in the Dallas area due to the presence of the Stars Center. I would assume most American cities with an NHL team have something similar.

I had an anxiety disorder 30 years ago before the band was cool AND before it became another substitute for 'merit' like one of those (strangely overly encouraged) 'encouragement' awards now so common......or a scout 'merit' badge (collect them all! kids!) to then strangely be proud of and wear like it IS you unfortunately (while also unfortunately just yet-another over-'encouraged' and ultimately divisive them/us tribal identity).
You ultimately learn to accept it (unless it's the unreasonable/unfounded delusional/mental type, where CBT can apparently help) AS just a SMALL part of you (and what likely helps you sometimes too) rather than just hating yourself and wanting (and then happily accepting) a non-existent miracle pill .....which will likely just dull and lessen you like booze and drugs .....but a strangely 'encouraged' version.

I have been off the Disney bandwagon for a long time. But I took my kids to see this movie yesterday.
I read from several sources that there was no woke agenda in the film. I took my kids to show Disney that taking that garbage out of your content can help win audiences back.
If we want woke content out of Disney, we need to setup the incentive structures to allow them to do so.
