I'll never get when people go on strike right when their company is losing money, or when the company that they work for is at a tipping point.
During Covid, this was happening a lot; employees were giving their businesses a list of demands, and the businesses (that were losing money) just said "f it", and closed. It wasn't worth it for the employer, who was already fighting to stay alive.

@richardcarellano I was a contractor for another well-known tech company just a year ago. A HUGE percentage of the workforce are "contractors". They keep it that way on purpose so they don't have to call them employees but they, by any other account, are. I never even met anyone at the company I supposedly worked for. In fact it was a company, owned by another company, owned by a third company. I called it the corporate shell game, because I felt like the little ball under one of the cups the entire time....and it was also clearly a shell company, built for hiding us.

i get what your saying. In my work place even under supervision they do not have to listen to a word I say as a normal employee. They also know the chance that when their contract runs out there is a possible chance that someone else might win the contracting bid. They also know that the could continue with employment there if the other company takes them on. Lastly they have no ties with the supported company IE Google. They work for a contracting company and need to protest against them... they are not employed by google their company is.

@@icospawn The NLRB has ruled otherwise, if the legal reality is what you’re talking about. The reason is because contracting companies make up such a big and consistent part of Google’s workforce.

However, as we made clear in our active appeal to the NLRB, we are not a joint employer as we simply do not control their employment terms or working conditions - this matter is between the workers and their employer, Accenture.”
They took it to court and the contract happened to end and they choose not to renew...... the appeal will prevent, or stay, further action on the judgment until the appeal is over by guaranteeing that the appealing party will pay or perform the judgment if it is not reversed on appeal.

This is a younger generation of workers learning a lesson us older people have known for years. Contract work is not stable. It may pay well, but ypur only real expectation should be the original term length. If you are working in contract roles, you need to always be looking for your next gig. Unionizing in that role is actually ridiculous. I understand why they think it gives them some kind of control, but it doesn't. And Texas is a right to work state, so unions have less influence here.
Google is done with these kids, whether the kids accept it or not. They went on strike and Google didnt renew the contract. In effect, these workers abandoned their jobs during their contract term, which is a breach of contract. They can saddle as much if the blame in this as they want to lay on Google.
They need to move on and find new gigs.

if youtube music exploits workers, then they should be happy not to work for them anymore. why are they still clinging onto youtube as if they still work there?

Joint employers? Shifty use of 'contract workers' when there's a monoply held by Google?

  • @norbertonavac

Imagine being so ignorant and entitled that you can’t understand the difference between a contract expiring and getting laid off. I’m pretty sure Google was so eager to renew their contract with this company after seeing all these workers being on a strike for a while.
I bet this guy brags about working at Google in front of his family and friends when he’s just a contractor. This guy even has “CZcams Music” as his employer on LinkedIn. No, bro, you’re a contractor and you need to learn the basics on how contracts work.

I pray they turn to the Lord Jesus in these hard times. You must serve Him above all and then you will know the way you should work. It sounds as if they don't even bother to make themselves aware of the stipulations on their own employment and thought they could strong arm a multi-billion dollar company with "inclusive" language. OOOF....

This is why ya don’t unionize when you don’t rate. These aren’t real jobs the world needs. So yea, sorry, but I’m not too concerned. If ur mad about no money now, get a real job that keeps the real world going. Not….CZcams music. So gimme a break. Let’s stop acting like these kids are hero’s of the people. They’re tech workers for a non essential part of CZcams. And CZcams itself is nonessential, so what do you really think you deserve here?

Listen I don’t understand anything when it comes to rent and everything else there. But here in Florida you can get by with 2 people living together at minimum wage which I believe is now $13 at McDonald’s. I’m wondering what was their amount. Besides that wasn’t there a strike while assumed under contract? Regardless that’s a no no.
