I knew this guy and his family personally when I was a kid! He did a lot more things than catching grapes. He and his family were very kind people and I grew up around Paul Tavilla's family. He could catch donut holes and other things as well. He could play the piano really well. It was a pleasure to know he and his family. I didn't know how well they were known until I was well into my adult years. They were ordinary people and that was they wanted to be treated. They didn't want to be treated famously, but just being everyday people.

In this interview with Johnny Bjorn sounded confident and seemed resigned to eventually resuming his tennis schedule, mentioning returning the next year to play regular events, as well as all the slams, and he clearly mentioned that his ambition was to win the US Open, the only grand slam that had eluded him, outside of the Australian Open, which none of the top players entered at that time. It's really sad how the tennis governing bodies with all of their rules drove him to a premature retirement. I have also heard that while the ATP might've precipitated Borg's decision, Borg was mentally burned out, having suffered two crushing defeats to his chief rival John McEnroe in the Wimbledon and US Open finals in 1981. I still believe that Borg would've eventually figured out the night time conditions at the US Open, as well as John McEnroe's left-handed serve to win the US Open, but it was not to be.

Björn talked so convincingly here about the future in his tennis career, only to retire in January next year. The tennis ATP and the tennis circus with the bosses must have driven Björn to retirement

Bud Collins said it was John McEnroe's volleying that drove Borg out.

The ATP had the same policy that golf has gone to. The top players in both sports can now win so much money in non tour events that they would have no incentive to support the tour. Then the lesser events would basically have middle rung players that nobody cares about (unless you knew them personally). In order to balance out the tour, a minimum # of events was/is required. Then hopefully you could get top players to play smaller tournaments.
