I have the 2015 version of the La Poste train. I have the full set. It is honestly one of my favorite trains to operate. I agree that the details are minimal, but it is a streamlined train. I also agree that the prices are high for these. The set I have is DCC only, no sound, and I got it for 700$ American dollars. Not sure how that compares to your set, but personally, I think the price holds up for the model from when I performed a half speed run at my club. One thing that worries me is the exposed gears at the bottom of the powered car. I think the reason is for ease of lubricant maintenance, but I am sure a custom plate can be made to cover the gears. I had to remove the car body of my dummy unit to take out the DC dumb decoder out, and I agree that taking the shell off is a pain, but with patience and care, it will come off without plastic damage. I think Jouef can come up with an easier solution for the locomotives to be easier to open up and maintain. I have a lot Broadway limited engines, and they tend to have a lot of detail, but they are easy to open up with small screws. Jouef needs to make their locomotives easier to open up and maintain. I am from the U.S.A., so my biggest concern would be spare parts incase the drive gears go out. The motors I believe will last a very long time. 5 pole skew wound is king. Finally, these train sets are the smoothest running, at all speeds, that I have in my fleet.
I hope more TGV/Jouef stuff comes to the United States, because these are are really nice models and great runners. Spare parts for reasonable prices would be very much appreciated. That, and a greater presence of high speed trains in America. I think Jouef can tackle our new Alstrom train sets that are soon to be doing service on our North East Corridor. The drives they have fit the bill for HO high speed.

Nice and detailed review. I would love to have a TGV in this paint scheme, but I would prefer higher quality. Hope there will be other manufacturers out there in the future.

I'm afraid not, Lima and Jouef were the only two. My understanding is that currently only Jouef has the licensing to make this paint scheme.

These drives I have tested for 4 hours straight non-stop and they seemed to have performed well without decaying of the drive.

I love the orange TGV (often mistakenly called Orient express for some reasons)
Most beautiful train of France ever.

Hi Michael and sorry for not replying earlier. The power unit on this model is very difficult to open. There is a big clip at the back of the power unit holding the shell. The clip is deep so you will have to use a flat metal object to release the back wall at the bottom. Once you do you just lift the shell from the back up.

yes the printing or tamp printing is not that great. I look at mine as just having some wear in service like to real train will have after a few years service. Otherwise if you are OCD it will bother you.

@Ammopoint wanna know a little seacrit, all rail exept one railway corridor are 50years behind rest of Europe and 90% of the trains in service are left overs from the communist era
