    If you took off the lower tier, the entire dress would look amazing as it is. It's too much fabric that is swamping your frame. It would take 5 mins max and would completely change the look of it

    I love the fabric you used and the neckline is perfect. I am 4ft 11 so would have to alter the tiers to make the length work. We have similar body shape so your pattern reviews are great for me. Thank you.

    I love that material. It is so sunny and happy! I think it compliments you so much!
    I think you need to deconstruct the dress and get rid of both outside ruffles but keep the length (very fashionable right now). If you would be more comfortable with it shorter, make it below the knee.
    I would also tighten the empire waist line with elastic. This would give the dress more shape. The empire waist would hide your tummy.
    The bishop sleeves don’t make sense with that print. Make the dress short-sleeved or sleeveless.
    I feel these changes would make this dress so much more wearable. This dress pattern is one I would pick, sew and love. I, too, have a tummy and I have a “block” figure. Thanks for your evaluation and I appreciate your suggestions about this pattern. Enjoyed your video!

    Your dress looks wonderful. I have made this dress. The collar, neckline and tiers is why I wanted it. I am swimming in mine. It's not a design issue, it's because I wanted to make it right away. The issues: I used the wrong piece for a tier, dress was long enough for a 7ft person. I used crinkle rayon fabric. And I changed the sleeve to be big all the way through. I still wear it. I'll make another one day. Beautiful dress. Thank you for your review.

    I made this dress last year! I agree - I feel like this dress "wears me." I love empire waist styles, and I like maxi dresses, but this is ..... a lot. I made the sleeveless version, with tiers, in a very lightweight quilting cotton (not quite lawn, but almost). The neckline is very nice. I was skeptical when I was sewing it that the collar would "lay" appropriately on my neck.... but it really does. Overall, though, the dress is WAY too long on me. I'm 5'3". Last year I would always wear my tallest chunky sandals and I was still at risk of tripping. I'm going to shorten it by about 3 inches. I also felt that the gathering on the tiers was difficult to do, especially with the ruffles. If that hadn't been SO difficult, I might take apart the tiers and remove 1.5 inches from each tier.... but I simply don't have it in me to fight that gathering again! Lastly, the "upper bust" area of the bodice fits great, but then it kind of "tents" from my bust downward, and it make me feel larger than I really am (I'm roughly 38-33-44). I'm planning to sew some elastic at the line where the bust meets the first tier, but just in the BACK. I think it will be kind of cute to have a little more fabric at the back (vaguely like an 18th century sack-back gown: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sack-back_gown. I would make this dress again, but I think I will reduce the size of the skirt tiers. Lastly, when cutting out those giant true rectangular skirt tiers, I just measured the tissue pattern pieces and then used my rotary cutter.

  • @Hamptons.Living
    @Hamptons.Living Před 27 dny

    Funny 😂 I love all the things you didn’t! I am not keen on the neckline like an arrow head BUT in light of the busyness of the design I see it as balancing out the rest. I have a vintage barkcloth I am going to give it a whirl in 😊

  • @lindak8664
    @lindak8664 Před rokem +1

    Oooh. Yeah, its not quite all it could be, is it? Not disparaging your sewing skills, it looks well made for sure.
    The joys of sewing! You can’t try it on then put it back on the rack, worst luck!
    I love the neckline with that arrow shape. But the rest of it does throw off that ‘granny flanny’ nighty vibe. There’s far too much fabric in it for you, it’s definitely wearing you, as you said.
    I’d like to see the improvements you talked about. Given how overall large that one is, you have plenty of fabric there to cut that one apart and improve it, if you wanted too. That way you won’t waste your pretty fabric.

    I recently got a dress with a similar 2 tiered skirt style, but the difference is that the top tier was just barely gathered, more like an A-line, and then the second tier closer to knee level was gathered. It had a similar feel to the flowy tiered skirt style, but with a lot less volume in the waist and hips. I thought it worked so much better for my body type.

    That was a good review. I just bought that pattern. and I got fabric very similar to yours, but maybe slightly a heavier cotton. This is to make a dress for my daughter, who is short. I like your ideas for variation to the skirt. Perhaps using the short version and adding a narrower band to the bottom for a midi length. I also am thinking of eliminating the zipper and putting a couple of buttons and loops. I was wondering about the sleeves so I appreciate your comments about them, so I think I'll use the little cap sleeves or none at all.
