"ma" means "demon" Japanese. "jin" is a suffix meaning "person of/from". That's why "majin" means "demon person" or "sayianjin" means "Sayian person" or "amerikajin" - "american person" piccolo used the name "ma junior" in the tournament as he used the same name in the tournament finale of the original sries as he wanted not to announce he is demon king Piccolo's son. his alias "ma junior" basically means "demon junior" what is cute
Also, just slight clarification on Babidi, he wasn't the son of the original wizard, he's a magical clone more or less. The "son" bit is a mistranslation from the original.
The English dub tends to emphasize the U in Dabura a bit too much, but his name is meant to be like the dabra in abracadabra. Of course, the Saiyans are all vegetables and Bulma's family is underwear, so this is just normal for Dragon Ball 😆
@narratives6673 yeah, her name is based on bloomers. Trunks and Briefs are straightforward, Bulla is bra, her older sister from the Jaco comic is Tights, and her mom is Panti (though the game DBZ Kakarrot called her Bikini, so this might be a Soba vs Shu situation where a minor character has their name changed because the first one got forgotten)
unfortunately, not all are translated. for example Ginyu force members' names are puns on diary just as Sayians' are on vegetables. or to be more precise, the GF member's are puns still with the exception of Ginyu himself who should be named Miruk or smth like that
I think you’re the first reactor I’ve ever seen to actually catch the Cinderella reference within the names of Babidi, his dad Bibidi, and in Buu. Honestly great job Steph!
She’s the second I’ve seen. I saw a couple do it (the girl watched along with her bf and no I don’t mean baris, though I saw them too). Steph caught it a little later but so glad she did hahaha
toriyama loves puns. these ones are far from the worst. some of them weren't even attempted to be translated that's just how bad they are for example "gohan" means "meal" or "daily rice" or smth like that. when goku announced it's time for gohan at the cell games the tv crew thought he means a lunch break pretty much all names except from the underwear family (as well as bu-related magicians and two animal hermits) are food items or food related terms. often related characters have names from the same group/category
Also Buu's lore is a weird thing, because Toriyama keeps changing the lore as he thinks more on it. He stated that Buu actually is a primal embodiment of chaos that originally did nothing but destroy and hibernate, until he took in too much evil from the universe and started doing it for fun. Bibidi only tried to enslave him, not create him.
Starting to get into one of the dumbest names in the series. Buu is fine on his own as just a simple sound, but knowing he started from Bibidi and Babidi... A little glad the series stopped after Uub was introduced as a friendly character. Maybe it makes more sense in japan, and they've never seen a disney movie. *Cinderella was released 1950, Buu saga was released in japan 1994. (Bibidi Babidi is also partly inspired by Chi Baba, Chi Baba My Bambino Go to Sleep, 1947, Disney movies are old!) Buu I feel is weaker as a threat compared to Cell but I do like how they play Babidi as a weak handler just trying to control this all consuming demon. For now it's still sort of in the tournament arc before everything goes wrong.
Akira took a ton from movies. Like friezas 3rd form is based on one of Toriyamas favorite movies, Alien, and he was a Terminator fan, so of course the androids, and Trunks looks like John Connor from Terminator 2. 16 looks like Arnold 😂

Funnily enough, Jinn in Arabian mythology is some type of demon creatures
Yes. EVERYTHING IN DRAGONBALL is a PUN. Gohan means food since Goku love good. Vegeta = Vegetable. Etc, etc.
and saiyans are named after vegetables and the original saiyan planet was called salada, as in "salad", as i n a bowl of vegetables
Also, just slight clarification on Babidi, he wasn't the son of the original wizard, he's a magical clone more or less. The "son" bit is a mistranslation from the original.
aren't we all just magical clones of our parents in a way?
I mean, at least a little bit?
Its not a mistranslation, Toriyama only decided on the clone thing years later
You must not know about Piccolo's family: Drum, Piano, Cymbal, and Tambourine. 😂
Yeah, I told her in the Premiere Chat that Piccolo's named after an Instrument.
You’re joking…. 😂😂😂

oh shit i never caught the bulma family thing in all my years watching dbz

@@CarbonMage Additionally Bulma can be translated to Bluema to indicate the color of her hair lol.
That's just how we pronounce names in English.
Whiskey and beer 🫢
Saiyans only care about eating time and boxing time.
being geeked about a tough fight is their dna I think
Goku doesn't care for heroics, he just wants a strong opponent.
He does care for heroics, just not as much as he care for a strong opponents.
This dub is more accurate to how he actually is. Unlike the old dub where he is like a superman.
Also Goku loves fighting, always ready for the next challenge 🐲🐉!!!
If it wasn’t obvious yet, Toriyama loves his name puns

Well ...all Japanese author love using pun name for there character.
Just look at any manga, anime & novel. They have pun name.
I will say, Vegeta will always remain the Prince of all Saiyans.
The writer Akira Toriyama has always tossed joke names since the 80s just for humour
Goku gets excited about fighting strong enemies despite what people say about them. Thats just how pure blood saiyans are.

i was so satisfied when you understood bibbity bobbiy buu or whatever

Turtle wave and Garlic gun 😂

Yes it's dumb, we love it anyway, that's what being a fan of dragon ball is all about
Anyone else wonder why no one seems to know about the flying technique even though it's been used in past world martial arts tournaments
You should know that’s how dbz rolls😅
That's quite a theory. Let's see how it pans out.
gohan gets a new born power
i was waiting for Steph to catch on to the Bibidi babadi buu rhyme, ik she would 😅
😂😂 You said Bibidi Bobidi Boo lmao
Cinderella came first before Dragon Ball was even a thing.
Like the 1930's or 40's 😂
That’s the cheesiest shit I ever heard….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's cause she likes Gohan. She wants permission/approval from him.
BibidiBabidibuu
17:00 I don't remember that.
Aaand... Restart the Killin Owned Counter.
Buu Bits!!!
I can’t wait to watch buu bits after!!!
WHAT IS YOUR INTRO SONG

all names are puns. just most of them haven't be translated to english so you don't know about it
@@emkalina Even naming everyone after vegetables is fine. It's not taking from a song from a Disney movie.
