I think the only nice thing I can say about the Master System chip is how beginner friendly it is. It's got an assortment of simple squares and a simple noise channel for drums... which is EXACTLY the problem! Who at SEGA thought it was a good idea to put such a limited Texas Instruments chip in their console that was superior hardwarewise in every way to the NES, AND overclock it to the point it had no bass? The way I see it, the Master System chip is just one of those chips that can't shine on its own. On its FM board, it was mostly out of the way and used for SFX. And on the Genesis, it was right next to its FM buddy to harmonize. Kinda like the Rabbids, the Master System chip can't thrive unless it's attached to something more capable. The FM board is like its Rayman, as the Genesis is its Mario (ironically). TLDR? Point, NES. Case closed.
the sega one has less punch but i know this is down to the hardware they used. sega only has the 50% square wave for any lead and it seems the drums were a little more limited. SMS can sound great if in the right capable hands.
La nes le da tres vueltas al chip de la Master sistem que no es que sea malo simplemente hacerlo sonor agradable al oído es muy difícil aún que si le debemos dar un puntazo al sn y es que se hace tremenda dupla con el YM2612 de la génesis
@0x0fffffcierto, aún que es una lastima que el chip no tenga la posibilidad de alterar sus 4 canales entre pulso y ruido como si lo hace su competencia directa el AY-3 la verdad me preguntó si el sn puede generar ondas de pulso ultra gruesas que simulen un canal de triángulo o bass como hace el AY-3
Although the NES version is clearly better, I actually prefer the Master System version, it just sounds less "generic". Also I've never really liked the triangle waveform on the NES, or the way the DPCM makes sampled stuff sound muffled and noisy.
Pero sabias que puedes usar samples en el sn7? Ademas que el canal de noise tambien se puede usar como onda de pulso de 10% o algo asi que suena bien como bajo, porque en octavas superiores suena como medio desafinado. Ademas mejor te recomiendo que pruebes furnace, asi para que tambien puedas usar el ym2413 (OPLL) de la sega master system PAL
Suena mucho mejor con el chip de la NES. Sega se apresuró con la Master System. Podría haber diseñado un mejor chip sonoro en su momento, pero decidió usar una versión reducida de las máquinas de arcade.
The NES's 2A03 is better than the SMS's SN76489, but I like both chips, and I don't think the Master System's sound is as bad as some say it is.

I think the sn7 can stand up to nes with if it uses its beefy bass on the noise channel with that 6 percent pulse

Sega no diseño su chip de sonido, lo hizo Texas instruments, solo lo aplico en un mismo chip y le hizo unas ligeras modificaciones.
