I stumbled on Lori's Applique method and got hooked on the process a few years back. I love the layering of the shapes and building the blocks. It is fun to take the block after glued down with me where I can stitch them down at boring events and in waiting rooms. So portable!

OH MY GOODNESS. My Grandma's name is Mildred and she went by Millie too.
I have to get this quilt pattern. I almost cried when I saw this pattern. She taught me to sew and when she passed, I was gifted her entire quilt room. Some of the material still smells like her and her house. This will be great to make a Minnie to hang on my wall. Thank you soooo mich.

When I started quilting, appliqué was one of my least favorite things to do. But then I fell in love with all things Lori and she completely turned me around on it. Her method turned something I found tedious and frustrating, into something fun! I'm so glad too because it opens up so many more opportunities to make different types of quilts. ❤

My first appliqué quilt was Prairie Meadow. I purchased the quilt kit from FQS and followed Lori's blog and CZcams channel for lessons. For a first time appliqué project it was a huge undertaking and the quilt top turned out beautiful. I would suggest a smaller project to introduce oneself into appliqué, but I do not regret all that I learned and the outcome of the prairie meadow quilt top. Thank you to Lori Holt and FQS for the tutorials and the encouragement to be the boss of my quilts!

Enjoyed this video so very much!! Enjoyed seeing all the new fabrics and patterns and just hearing all the info along the way. I have been a Lori Fan since 2013, when I found Riley Blake Designs while looking for some quilt ideas. Lori was just bringing out her first Bake Sale fabric line, which led me to Fat Quarter Shop. The doors that opened for me at that time, have been a wonderful journey - that I am so grateful for.
Before that, I had been a home sewer for a company that did a lot of raw edge applique. We worked mostly with solids, and would cut out two pieces of fabrics simultaneously, so that the shapes matched exactly, before zigzagging them onto print fabrics to make the many designs for baby quilts. (Doubling up the solid fabrics helped so that the print would not show through afterwards). Now working with Lori's Sew Interfacing - I keep thinking back, how much easier applique would have been years before.
Again, thank you for a wonderful video, Kimberly and Lori!

I'm very new to quilting but not new to sewing. I was anxious about applique until I discovered Lori Holt world. Your books instructions and videos make the process effortless. I just started the chicken salad quilt but with my neurological disorder I'm sure it's going to take awhile. I'm confident tho because Lori walks you through it all. I was afraid of the actual turning of the fabric but it seems therapeutic to me. Enjoy your day y'all. These videos are amazingly inspirational.

Lori-your applique method is my very favorite. I first appliquéd with the starch, paintbrush & freezer paper-did a whole quilt that way & found it so tedious & fiddly. Then I tried needleturn & did ok, but was a little frustrated & so didn’t find it enjoyable. I tried paper back raw edge fusible-didn’t like the look of it & didn’t think it held up well. When I found your method about 4 yrs ago, I found it to be enjoyable & relaxing. When you came out with yr own interfacing-that was a game changer. Your method isn’t tedious or frustrating. I’ve made many of yr applique quilts-have won Best of Show & many other rewards with them. I will always use yr interfacing & your method. Thank you for it!

Hello miss Lori...well I have never been much of an applique kinda quilter and I been quilting for over 25 years...I tried to do applique many years ago and it was just a fail...never felt the need to ever want to do it again...however...your designs have me drooling..I purchased sew simple shapes a while back and still never made the quilt...I loved your teapot quilt that was all pieced and I purchased the kit from FQS years back...its just beautiful...I loved your granny chic fabric so much I purchased the fat quarter bundle and hung on to it till just recently I made the Sewcelites 2 sew along with the fabric and just WOW it is just simply beautiful and I used black for all the background...I might one day get brave enough to attempt applique but I have your sew by row quilt to get workinig on as well...thank you so much for all these beautiful fabrics and designs..one of your biggest whole hearted fans

Lori you are such a talent and a force for creativity. Thank you for your contributions to the quilty community. As far as appliqué- I’m still a new quilter. I absolutely love the look of appliqué. I’m not impressed with my own work yet. I do like the Lori Holt method. My struggle is keeping the interfacing from peeking thru the edges. I’m also still learning how to sew the images neatly. That said, I love the sew simple shapes. Makes it easy-pesie to play and doesn’t require a light box.

Lori’s applique method is one of several different applique methods that I have tried. I enjoyed using this method, but I found that it wasn’t always the best method to use when constructing intricate applique pieces. When I work with a rounded, less detailed shape, it works great. I have fallen in Love with wool appliqué as I went through the process of learning the best methods of applique for me. THANK YOU Lori for sharing your passion of quilting and applique with everyone. But, my husband and I both love your mercantile quilt so I’m going to take the plunge 🥰 Lori Holt and Kimberly Jolly - definitely a quilting power house!!!! I enjoy your patterns, fabric, and tutorials. You both have greatly influenced, inspired, and improved my quilting. Thank you for everything you do 🥳

I have never appliqued before, but understanding how you reach it, I think I would like to give it a try, I think I would be able to do it. Thank you for the work you do to teach us the right and easiest way to piece a block and to put a scrappy quilt together.

Enjoyed today's live. I started using Lori's applique method a few years ago, and it is my favorite method. Once in a while I will do raw edge. I am grateful for her tutorials and sharing her tips and techniques with us.....thank you!

I love your appliqué quilts and I want to do the Bee Happy quilt, however I don't know how to do appliqué. I'd say I'm an advance beginner to somewhat intermediate. I watched your videos and I am going to try the Bee Happy it and I just know I can do it because you do great instruction on your videos. First I needed to make one of your quilts to gain some confidence before I tackle Bee Happy. Well I joined the scrappiness is happiness sew along and I did it! My quilt actually just came back from a long arm quilter and I love it!! I am hooked and I'm going to make more of your quilts including Bee Happy and the adorable Snowman quilt for 2024! Thank you for the inspiration and videos Lori, you ROCK!

Loved your get together, I first learned to applique from Eleanor Burns with interfacing. So, Lori when I watched your methods I got excited all over again, thank you for sharing your love of quilting. Not to leave you out, Kimberly, love your tutorials too.

I love applique, it is my favorite form of quilting. I finished your Prairie Meadow quilt a while ago, and using your method made it doable. I adore your fabric. Thank You Lori !

I watch your CZcams showing how to appliqué. I get all excited and then I hesitate. I made one block with you and it’s all pinned and glued to the background fabric and the sewing it down is intimidating to me. I’m waiting for the day I feel brave cause I know it will look awesome. Hopefully that’ll be soon!! 🥰

I love your appliqué method Lori!🧵🪡🥰 It is easy to appliqué with that turned edge and I can prep the blocks to take on road trips! So excited for your new BlackBerry pattern with the Jolly Bars. Also the Christmas Stockings and snowman quilt. Thanks for the great video. I always enjoy when you 2 get together😊. Hugs

❤ both KJ & LH, isn't it such a blessing to have a great sew buddy ❤️ you guys remind me of myself & my sew buddy, I miss her so much, we learned quilting together in the early '90s. I have done some appliqué in the past & plan to hand appliqué my Hexis onto blocks one day. Love everything Lori Holt , have 4 books and a 'few' cross stitching patterns. Love the Let's make a Snowman kit coming. I have just completed the Twinkle Stars & starting on Vintage Kites, all while working on my Chicken Salad (pieced version). I am on the 400 plan too Lori 😅 so many projects to do. Happy Stitchin'

I have tried appliqué before but not your technique Lori. Years ago, I sewed each of my children a Christmas stocking and appliquéd a different picture on the front of each one using Debbie Mumms book and patterns. I remember the appliqué was much easier than I thought it would be and the stockings turned out cute!

Have used the Sew Simple Shapes and enjoyed using them. Applique is my favorite. Watching this video on this rainy Saturday morning. Placed my order and also got the free stitch card boxes. Excited to get them. So many fun quilts and fabrics. Lori looking fabulous! Thanks Kimberly for this video.

I'm working on the Calico Garden quilt. It's my first applique using Lori's applique method. I've been sewing the blocks by hand. I've got almost all my blocks glued down and have been sewing them as I have the time. ( Started on the Quilted Witch sew along , multiple projects going at the same time lol!) I'm in love with every quilt pattern Lori designs! Good thing I finally retired and have more free time!

I do love your method of appliqué. I've made a couple of your appliqué quilts and it's so much easier than needle turn. I've still got to finish my Chicken Salad quilt--just need to sew together! Sew much fun!! Thank you Lori and Kimberly!!!

Hi Kimberly & Lori, I absolutely love the process of your applique method. It has really helped me get over my fear of appliqueing. I never could get my applique projects to look crisp and neat. Love your interfacing. Thank you so much for all your help ❤️💐

My first quilt that I made was a queen-size quilt and hand applique. Today I love machine and hand applique. I also inherited my great grandmother's quilt that was hand applique, which she won first prize at the state fair in Minnesota. She also hand appliqued a twin quilt for me as a teenager. I, of course, love your techniques for hand applique and have templates and fabric from your lines. Love everything you do❤

I’m about to try Applique with the Home Town Quilt Kit! It is going to be my first big Applique quilt. I dread the preparation in prior to sewing in comparison to piecing, we get to cut and sew, where as with applique, there is a lot of prep that has to be done.. but I’m so inspired with Lori and pumped up to try it this year!

Lori I love all of your collections, I did your Calico Garden quilt. It was the most difficult quilt I have done to date, but now it gives me the confidence to do others. I immediately did the Vintage Sampler and now I feel that all applique is a bit easier with that Calico Garden quilt as a reference.

I've been doing applique for years and love it. My favorite method is needle turn, but like your method for larger pieces. I find the interfacing can make it kinda thick though when lots of pieces are stacked. On the next one I make, I think I'm going to trim out the excess interfacing in the center of the piece and see how that works.

before discovering you and your CZcams channel, I attempted to make some applique templates to use in my mother's memory quilt. I really struggled with the decision I made, use a second piece of fabric for the back. Then I found you. Your technique of using interfacing. I have since purchased a total of 5 of your Sew Simple Shapes and currently making your Hometown quilt. Thank you for all you do, and so graciously share!

Loved this live and all the information given. I’m a new quilter this year. I’ve been watching Lori’s appliqué process and it’s stunning. It is definitely my style however I’m horrified to attempt it. I do plan on learning the process next year after I get a little more comfy with making the quilt tops. Thank you both for all the tips and tricks.
