The iPhone isn't as wide as the GoPro. The field of view of iPhone wide camera is 120°. the GoPro is 153º, they've just calculated the equivalent focal length differently. That's because the iPhone is rectilinear (actually they warp to rectilinear which creates stretched corners), while the GoPro isn't.
Another way to take photos on the GoPro is shoot 5k video and then just extract 14.7MP photos from the video using the GoPro app that effectively gives you unlimited (well only limited by your SD card, or battery) burst at up to 30fps!

If the go pro is being compared to the iPhone camera. There really isn't more to be said.
I’m a bit confused on how iPhone wide vs GoPro Raw would be a fair comparison? Shouldn’t it be closer to iPhone 26mm jpg to GoPro Linear 24mm jpg?
Well you are right, it's not exactly fair but i wanted to compare to similar field of views. I think that GoPro linear does to much processing and i was looking to maximize the potential of the GoPro.
