@Q A golden reply
These had to be all of the genres Blur did. At least you like the music. Turns out they can pass as the Beatles of the X generation.
I think they never did grunge but yeah such a powerful and iconic band 🔥
holy shit
@@techno_prayer2549 Grunge in spirit for sure
People, even Damon, hate on this album. I personally find it to be one of their best. I love the psychedelic/shoegaze elements mixed in with a more accessible poppier sound.
I agree, this is one of my favorite albums from them. I heard all of Blurs albums and Gorillaz albums also
This blur album had the most iconic songs from blur like for a example She's so high and there's no other way so I agree with Nickloaa Ecker
@@Mr_R10T there’s no other way is the song that got me into blur. I listened to it on repeat in my early days of smoking.
I agree, I love every song on the album. I wore my tape out. It reminds me so much of those times. I know every riff and lyric.
@@nickolasecker9596 Its iconic right

Thx . Im listening to this album for the first time and this helped a lot :)
Fell in love it when I first over 30 years ago….. and still sounds great Actually my favourite of them all.
As my Mum once said you can hear the influence of the 50’s to the 90’s in it!
Loved my Mum for that! 😉
blur is special, man...seriously....i know a lot of bands but they're a special one!!!
I agree. If Damon read this he'd be very happy.
Agreed. Also, FIRST TRACK INTRO..... Noel Gallagher nicked this riff I think.
damn right
@@Kayem967 What song? You wont answer
Why did I live 31 years without listening to Blur? Where have they been? Where have I been? I don't know the right answer, but from now on... Blur is part of my playlist... part of my life I guess.
Eclipsed by the grunge gender in the USA.
Here in Latin America their singles where quite famous. As well as in Europe and Asia.
LOL me too!!!
My favourite Blur's album !
Good opinion PowD Joke.

hello,i'm listening to my very first blur album and its not bad so far, did'nt realise how early on in the 90's decade they were going.
I rather best of album
This might annoy some Blur fans from the beginning, but I remember listening to this and MLIR non stop during 1994 after Parklife came out and becoming a huge fan of them because of that album. I just remember in the months after that and having brought those two previous albums just listening to them over and over and over on my walkman walking to school, to home, in between lessons, on my paper round. Just brings back memories, but it brings back memories of 1994 grades 10 and 11 (UK) for me lol. Thanks Blur.
I realize it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch new movies online ?
@King Billy Flixportal =)
@Watson Zaire thanks, signed up and it seems to work =) Appreciate it!!
@King Billy you are welcome :D
@@kingbilly7986 I use Flixportal, also Streamio, it's actually a free ap, I've used it you a year now with no issue, basically enables very easy to use torrent streaming, been able to watch loads of old and sometimes quite obscure tv shows on that as well.
I was addicted to this album when I was 10 years old. It was my first CD ever.
I remember that it caught my attention that the lyrics of the songs were all tight on the cover, it was fun to try to follow them without skipping a line. This was a truly special album to my youth. Now that I've listened to so many more music since, I can see some similarities with other bands from the era. For example "Fool" borrows some ideas from "Nothing much to lose" by MBV.
Yeah, I was 16 when this was in heavy rotation on college radio. They heavily channel Syd Barrett here especially on She's So High and There's No Other Way (a lyric from the first draft of See Emily Play) and on Bad Day they quote the song Octopus "Isn't it good... lost in the wood" which is a quote of something else (Syd was also a collage artist). All great art!

Love this album! Brings back my teenage years. Legends, that's all i can say.👌
I forget how psychedelic this album sounds.

This is a great album, it's youthful and full of energy. I like the psychedelic edge it has and the guitar work is vibrant and lively. Dunno why Damon doesn't like it. Sure it was before they developed their signature sound, but I think this is quite a decent debut.
I agree Lisa. This album is nothing to be ashamed of. Damon wasn't happy that they got moulded into a "baggy" band..
I don't know why he hates "The Great Escape" as well.
@@happyears21694 he hates Leisure and The great escape because both they did under lots of commercial pressure. One to achieve recognition and the other to win the "Britpop battle"
@@happyears21694 There are plenty of weaker tracks on that to be fair, just like on this one.
Sing is a perfect song, i love it.
one of the most atmospherical songs i've ever heard. It's an essencial song.
my Blur's definitive album, no more words...
One of the best debut album's of all time.

In the underrated side
Hands down the best about album. They made some great songs afterwards, but this is an album where I love every single song. Wore my tape out in 1991. My girlfriend at the time loved it too.
one of the best albums of the 90s, Blur's best for sure
Had almost forgotten just how great this album is!
Far better, more experimental than Modern Life is Rubbish. A touch grungy in parts. Wonder how different things would've been had they continued along this path. Guess we'll never know.
You are joking right? This album has grown on me [as in listening to it now for the first time in years] but for originality, enjoyment and creativity, the best of Blur was yet to come. Modern Life Is Rubbish and Parklife were the peak of Blur, plus some from their two albums after those.
Happy 25th birthday to you, Leisure!
Sunbeam Pink
happy 26th birthday to you, Leisure!
Jesus, it's gonna be thirty soon...
Fun fact, the girl in the cover is older than that. She was in the 1954 magazine with another girl. Maybe if you look at Google images, you'll see the actual full version of the picture.
Love this album, was the best from Blur
Very of its time, but songs like Sing, Repetition, and Fool still sound sound fantastic today.
The perfect album for a bus ride in the middle of mountains at 3am
What an album. Bought mine from Kingbee Records in Chorlton. Still have the original copy. Manchester was buzzing back then.
Kingbee is buzzin
Definitivamente este es mi disco favorito de Blur, que buenos momentos.😃😃😃
This is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the Britpop genre.
never been bored to hear, awesome
The new album should come out already. please come back👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Shoegaze/Madchester/Psychedlic-Era Blur is the best! I loved this album when it came out in 1991. Saw Blur soon after on their first US tour - they were great! I don't know why Damon slags off this album so much; I think it is superb and like it more than their later Britpop era stuff.
Cos when people are young they write lyrics they later find cringe and its a poor example of how diverse and skilled a songwriter he became. You could never get a song as ultimate as The Universal on here.
Maybe because of just the lyrics.
Wow I love this!! Haven't heard some of these songs in years such as Repetition and Bad Day
Blur, My Fave 90's Band! In a Class of Their Own~!
Pretty nice album so far, got into Damon Albarn by Gorillaz and was always intrigued in his other works. Not a bad first album for Blur!
BANG goes so well!

Ok, updating my comment 7 months later: the album has grown on me and now I appreciate it more. The first time I listened to it I couldn't stand most of the songs but now at least I can enjoy listening to all the songs without skipping any of them. It's still my least favorite Blur album. If they had chosen some of the singles' B-sides instead of some songs of the album, it certainly would be higher on my list
30 años 🙌
Perfection.
Damn what a great debut. It's pretty much the product of a dying era; music in the UK was shifting immensely. Grunge would take over for a little, then Suede. Then the whole Oasis/Pulp/Blur battle. What a majestic first album though!!
I can't believe I gave away this cassette to a used CD/cassette place in the 90s
totally can hear the beginnings of gorrilaz on here, awesome stuff. and inspiring!

Yes baby
While I didn't get super into them until 1995, I have been a fan ever since this album came out and I had borrowed it from a friend in high school.
Great record!
Lots of their songs are pure genius
definitely my favourite Blur album and all the B sides are fantastic too.
I've always liked this album, I never understood why the band wrote it off. Damon Albarn said later "It was a sh*t album" and many commentators later said that 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' was actually the band's first album in terms of quality releases, implying that the first period of the band, the Leisure period, can be forgotten and they only properly started as a band sometime down the line. Even though the band have dismissed the album two songs remained in their live set for many years afterwards - 'She So High' and 'There's No Other Way'. Albarn said later that when he wrote the lyrics to this album that he "Hadn't read enough". 'Parklife' was heavily based on Martin Amis' book 'London Fields' (link below), Albarn often based his later writings on things he had read. I personally like this album and always have. www.amazon.co.uk/London-Fields-Martin-Amis/dp/0099748614
He says that it's awful and he says that "The Great Escape" is messy.
This album is a bit underrated. One of their best.
This album and band is underated..I love Blur and Gorillaz

I like this album so much that it was my profile's picture for a lifetime!
On Facebook right?
I bought this album "used" in London in 2000. I listened Parklife and the Great Escape before this. For sure a very different style, but I loved the nostalgic shoegaze style. How nice are trucks like "SIng" that I appreciate more now than then. This album had a great impact on me, even if some trucks may be weaker than others, I still find very interesting and very Stone Roses inspired (if you listen from Min 3.00 of she's so high for example). There's no other way and SHe's so High, certainly among the top 10 of their best songs.

That guitar riff at the beginning sounds like Oasis. Of course this was out before theyd had an album out
Its just a simple arpeggio of a couple of chords on a distorted electric guitar. Its hardly unique to any particular band.
