And yes, this game is violent, bloody and beautifully vibrant, it's fast, everybody dies in a Single. Hit.

No point in Hiding it, Hotline Miami was no joke. Not only was it Devolver Digital’s cornerstone of ultimate games that put the company on the event map, but it was the winner of an award for excellence in audio. This whole game is so twisted, it’s not for the faint of heart! Caution: Never play it unless you wish to venture into the insanity at your own risk, even if it is fun and challenging🙏🏿

  • @Ismail-tp1wn
    @Ismail-tp1wn Před 7 dny +9

*despite the trailers, there is a story in both games, with 2 having a bigger focus on it. The first game allowed you to choose different masks that offered different weapons or abilities. Though 2 only had a few levels that allowed that, since most only allow you to play as a preset character.*
*Plus the first game is set in 1989, 2 set in the 90s*

You basically play a psychopath being manipulated and consistently fed drugs and violent media by another psycho veteran still fighting a war that ended years ago.. Or at least, that's what you think until Hotline Miami 2, where the underlying story is that the cold war is very much hot. It's a pretty miserable story that starts with very little joy and ultimately ends with even less. So yeah, the marketing could potentially be aimed towards violent or sadistic people, but the game itself is pretty openly critical of the violence, to the point that the quote "do you like hurting other people?" Is aimed at the protagonist and by extension, the player, in an almost accusatory tone.
Fantastic games and I seriously need to replay them!

I’d love to see you guys try out this game! Having played it myself, it has such a cool neo-noir kind of feel to it. I’m just fascinated that a pixel game managed to suck me in and immerse me in that thrilling yet grim mood as much as it did. Greatly enhanced by it’s excellent music.
The gameplay is really fun in that it challenges your reflexes, some puzzle-solving and some daring, considering that you have to restart the “floor” once you die, and that can happen pretty suddenly 😆

Each level kinda plays out like a puzzle, what order do you do things and what targets do you take out first. There is an interesting story that is missing from the trailers, and wondering whose pulling the strings, what's actually going on. It looks brutal from the outside, but when you've played it for a couple of hours you kinda get what they were trying for.

These 2 games are definitely an unique experience, but they tend to be quite difficult even though they are short. They're worth trying nonetheless, the music being one of the reasons.

A difficult, one hit one kill game where you're ordered by a mysterious, external group to go clear buildings full of enemies, all while wearing a mask of your choosing. While the bloody and arcade-like gameplay takes center stage, there is a story that not many people either understand or choose to seek out, however, it's not necessary to enjoy the game. I made a trailer on my channel about the game a while ago just because I wanted to remind people that there were story elements to it.

Really when you get into the game, plot wise it is a pretty disturbing, dark story so it does match up with the tone of the marketing. Gameplay wise though the game is hard. Like they don't show the player character getting hit. That's because bullets hurt you as much as they do the enemies. One hit from anything and you're dead. That's mitigated by the game letting you right back in to try again but you have to pretty much clear a floor flawlessly. It is a stellar game though just not a casual one.

i am a hotline miami 2 fanboy, let me break down the entire story to you.
    (spoiler warning)
Jacket was an US soldier who fighted on the war to defend Hawaii against The Soviet Union, one of his squad members, Beard saved him from a power plant explosion.
Beard lived a happy life on San Francisco as a shop owner, but Russia ended up nuking the state, making Jacket extremely angry at russians since that was his only friend.
He decides to join an organization "50 Blessings" to take down the Russian Mafia on Miami and avenge Beard, he eventually manages gets betrayed by the organization, and they send another guy "Richter" (who actually never wanted to join 50 Blessing, he was forced) to eliminate him.
Jacket goes into a coma (this means that every event on the game (only the first game) prior to this was an hallucination by jacket, he still took down several places owned by the Russian Mafia, but he altered a few of the events, he thinks he eliminated another operator "The Biker" when in reality all he did was to injure him, and the shop owner you meet trough the game (Beard) is dead (i explained this before) and jacket also sees a LOT of dead people and strange things happening around him prior going into the coma, he breaks out from the hospital, gets answers from Richter and lets him live, and continues to destroy the Russian Mafia, eventually eliminating the boss.
After he has achieved his goal, Jacket turns himself into the police.
The events during the Payday 2 Heists are NOT canon at all.
Also, jacket doesnt feel any remorse, the only time he did was when he eliminates the homeless guy at the start of the game, because he had nothing to do with the conflict, he was an innocent american man, and realizes what he just did

    • @KatKat32
      @KatKat32 Před 7 dny

      HEAVY SPOILERS
After the events of this game, the Russian Mafia eventually reconstructs with a new boss, "The Son", 50 Blessing is still going strong and the Russian Mafia has a few problems with another group "The Colombians" so the son and some of his henchman (and a corrupt cop) decide to take them down, eventually he succeeds, but his best friend gets brutally eliminated by "The Fans" an individual group of 5 people, who are not involved on 50 Blessings but want to follow Jacket steps (as the group name describes them, they are Jacket fans) the son tries calling him but as he gets no answer, he thinks that his friend abandoned him and starts taking a lot of an experimental pill the mafia created.
Eventually he overdoses and goes absolutely insane sad, angry and confused, he eliminates a lot of his henchman, meanwhile The Fans have entered the building and started eliminating everybody they see.
how did they know their boss was there? because they had The sons friend (henchman) cellphone, and answered the call when the son invited him over, The Son (still under the effect of his creation) manages to eliminate 4 of the fans, leaving the ONLY one who hesitated and didnt get involved on the murder of his friend "Tony" alive, the son then goes into the top of the building and ends himself.
Tony surrenders to the cops but the jealous corrupt cop "Pardo" (mentioned before) takes him down.
The 50 Blessings take it one step further after these events and eliminate The President of the USA and Russia on a coup de tat provokating a full on nuclear war, as far as we know, Miami and Hawaii were nuked.
and every character (including jacket) dies
The only character who seems to have survived the blast is The Biker, since he wasnt on the credits and judging by some dialog probably escaped into the desert searching for a new life long before the bombs dropped.

    • @KatKat32
      @KatKat32 Před 7 dny

      HEAVIER SPOILERS
Regarding the story of other characters.
      RICHTER
Richter was threatened into joining 50 Blessings and was ordered to eliminate Jacket since Jacket had failed to eliminate The Biker.
Richter failed and was sent to prison, eventually 50 blessing decided to eliminate him because he failed to eliminate Jacket and told a prisoner inside (who was also a friend of 50 blessings) to eliminate him.
Richter manages to fight him off, but 50 blessing had a plan B, they decide to start a Riot
Fun fact: Jacket was inside that prison but decided not to escape since he had already achieved his goal
Richter dresses as a cop and the SWAT team helps him escape.
He then tells a writer of a book "Evan Wright" his story and asks him if he could buy a passport for his mom to Hawaii, Evan buys both him and his mom a passport and Richter lives a happy life on Hawaii with his mother, until the nukes go off
(Richter is the bald man with a Rat mask and a green jacket)
      JAKE
Jake is a racist and extremist who joins 50 Blessings with the intent of destroying the Russian Mafia
(50 Blessings give tasks to the Operators by sending them a mask, an explanation note, and leaving them a phone call that appears to be innocent "Deliver Cookies to X place" "Clear the floor on X House" the places mentioned are filled with russians and they want the operators to eliminate them.
Jake isnt the smartest guy so he gets confused but eventually realizes what is going on, he also manages to decipher where the 50 Blessings Operate, this makes them scared and they decide to try and take down jake, but in one of his tasks he is eliminated by the Russian Mafia.
      THE FANS
The fans are an individual group of 5 people
      -Tony (Yellow tiger mask)
      - 1 Brother and his Sister whose name i forgot (Goose/Swan masks and chainsaw guy)
      -Corey (Zebra mask)
-Mark (Bear mask with 2 SMGS)
They are fanatics of the work of Jacket and try to replicate it by eliminating small criminal groups, eventually getting themselves into something bigger after taking out The Henchman and receiving a phone call from The Son who accidentaly reveals his location to them, they go on and try to eliminate him but..
Mark dies at the hands of The Son from a hit with a golf cub on the head (probably a concussion)
Corey dies at the hands of The Son too from a revolver shot
The Brothers die both at the hands of the son from Revolver Gunshot wounds at the top of the building
And Tony dies at the hands of Pardo, after giving up, Pardo murders him because he is jealous of him (will explain later)
      PARDO
Pardo is a Corrupt Cop and Detective probably suffering from a multiple personality disorder hes also a sociopath, a serial killer and a psychopath.
Pardo seems COULD be working with the Russian mafia since he decides to visit The Son in one occasion but is denied by one of the henchmen.
Pardo is a serial killer who investigates his own murderers based on the REAL serial killer "Manny Pardo", while also fighthing crime, Pardo always a step ahead from the police and murders every criminal on the crime scenes, eventually he takes down a Giant Ship owned by the columbians.
Pardo is constantly jealous of other criminals since they always get most of the attention "The Fans" for example so his murderers get progressively disturbing.
Pardo also has a dream at the end game where he is discovered by the police and murdered after an attemped escape so he barricades himself up and grabs his revolver waiting for something to happen, but he is hit by the nukes while waiting.
Imma continue on the next comment

    • @KatKat32
      @KatKat32 Před 7 dny

      SPOILERS AGAIN
      EVAN WRIGHT
Evan Wright is Pardos Best friend, he doesnt know he is a serial killer, and he is hesitant on killing.
Evan Wright is obsessed with writing a book about Jacket murderers and 50 Blessings operators to the point where he gets inside a place owned by the russian mafia, trying not to kill anybody and asks one of their higher ups a few questions.
He also interviews The Biker but gets not very important answers from him.
Evan also interviews Richter and helps him and his mother to escape to Hawaii.
Evan Wright has 2 endings depending on what the player chooses.
      1. He keeps writing his Book eventually Publishing it and getting popular, even gets coverage from the TV before the nukes hit
      2. Leaving his book behind and reuniting with his family, while dining together he, his wife and kids are hit by the nukes.
      MARTIN
Martin is the Pig Mask on the game, he is a sadistic, but not criminal, actor for a popular movie "Midnight Animal", many people theorize he is actually how Pardo sees himself, but he is probably a shizophrenic and a psychopath (still not criminal)
The movie he is working on is trying to depict Jacket killing, but does it wrong and Vilvifies him by stating things that are simply not true
(a clear example of this is how they depict Jacket as somebody who kidnapped a woman, when Jacket actually saved her and gave her a home)
However the Movie goes wrong and somebody accidentaly or intentionally places Real bullets instead of blanks at the end, so when one of the actors get up and shoots him he actually dies.
      THE GIRL
The girl is a secondary character who was taken by the Russian mafia they did horrible things with her, after Jacket clears the building he saves her and brings her to his home, its hinted that they had a relationship going on, but Richter eliminates the girl after shooting jacket on his home.
      THE HENCHMAN
The Henchman is The Sons best friend, after helping him take down a Columbian owned club, he tells The Son that he wants out, but the Son gives him a small and easy last task on a car shop that was owned by a small criminal gang, The henchman clears the building but finds a bag of money and takes it, outside the shop he finds a member who arrives late and spares him.
But the guy gets mad at him and asks The Fans to murder him.
When he arrives home with the money, he goes to sleep, but his wife leaves him and takes everything from him without saying a word, depressed and angry the Henchman goes into a club and takes the same pills the son consumed to wash away his sadness while attemping to make a call.
The fans (exvept for Tony) arrive and murder him along with everybody inside the place (except for the DJ)
      THE BIKER
The Biker is a 50 blessings operator, but he decides that he doesnt want to do this and tries to get out from the mess and get answers, while connecting from a computer on a phone company that 50 Blessings used to make their phone calls, he gets atacked by Jacket (who was sent by the organization to punish The Biker for failing them), Jacket manages to get a hit on him but he escapes the place.
He goes to a place where 50 Blessings operators who manage the phone calls are in and tries to get into a password protected computer and fails to do it.
He goes into a secret sewer and finds the "Janitors" who work with 50 Blessings, he gets no answers from them and either kill them or lets them live (up to the player)
Confused and with his life in danger, he goes into the desert, however he eventually revisits Miami, but its hinted that he went back to the desert after the conversation with Evan

      THE SON
The Son is the son of the previous Russian Mafia boss who was eliminated by jacket, his goal is to reconstruct the Mafia and bring it back to power, to do this he takes out the Columbians who had taken over the Building owned by the Russian Mafia after its fall.
He takes out a Club with the help of The Henchman, who afterward tells him he wants out, The son gives him a last task and lets him leave with no problem.
The son then goes a step further and takes down the Columbian Boss on a giant building with the help of 10 henchmen.
He then goes on to celebrate his victory and calls The Henchman over (not knowing he was murdered by The Fans)
the phone is answered but there is only silence, The Son throws the phone away and starts taking too much of his pills, eventually overdosing and going insane, he takes down everything that moves including The Fans who had recently entered the building, except for Tony, once he reaches the roof, he ends his life
      BEARD
Beard is a war veteran who fighted along jacket with his squad "The Ghosts" his General thinks they can win the war to defend Hawaii and goes slowly insane, sending him and his team to harder and more difficult missions as time goes on.
Fun Fact: The General is actually named Brandon, and is the guy behind 50 Blessings.
The General eventually decides to send the entire squad to take a Power Plant owned by the Soviets, however, the boss of the plant takes his life and starts a meltdown before the squad eliminated him.
One of the members and Jacket quickly try getting into an elevator, however it had a bomb inside, jacket gets heavily injured and the Soldier A gets half of his body removed by the explosion, Soldier B stays with Soldier A on his last moments (even tho they arent canon, the comics hint that Soldier B escaped the Plant too) meanwhile Beard escapes the plant while Carrying Jacket outside and calling the medics.
Beard lives a happy life as a shop owned, but The Soviet Union nukes San Francisco, where he was located (this was before 50 Blessings was a thing)

I’m surprised this game got a pass in terms of being able to even go into digital stores. I remember when I was around my middle school age there was a game of a dude that basically looked like the undertaker and the entire game was just slaughtering the neighborhood. That game got put down as fast as it went up.
Yet I’ve watched CZcamsrs play hotline and played it a little bit myself and it’s just a turn your brain off game. I guess maybe because of the old school 8-Bit style it’s a bit less shocking than watching a really well modeled undertaker blow his neighbors face off. But like Ken says, they know what their game is and how to sell it.

Absolutely love the series, got a great mix of gritty grindhouse horror aesthetic and a stylish 80s vibe with an extremely addicive gameplay loop. The soundtrack is absolutely fire if you're into sythwave music. The crossover with payday 2 years ago added the main character from the first game as a playable character and a new heist i believe (correct me if im missing something about that I'm no payday fan). Also wanted to add that there's a comic series based on these games. The story is also of the franchise... interesting? I suppose i was far too young when i first played it to really understand or take away anything serious from it lol (○_○)

i think i have issues with the way call of duty is vs a game like hotline miami because call of duty is a game made by a large company made to get people hooked and desensitised to graphic depictions of violence for profit, commercialising death and war. whereas hotline miami is a complete satire of this in a similar vain to warhammer. in hotline miami theres ways an air of corporate and personal corruption, drug dealers and regular people committing horrific acts for money. also the game plays into it through its addictive high stakes gameplay like your gambling your life amd the music made to sweep you up in the characters violent tendencies and adrenaline to stop you from thinking too hard, like the characters would be feeling, until the respite given by cutscenes where you and the characters are both given time to reflect on what you just did and the consequences. its such a beautiful deconstruction of humanities worst parts in my opinion.

Honestly, after what I heard about this game years ago I decided to try it out myself. Because, while looking at the gameplay videos of this game I didn't liked the art style and the genre. I mean, I love run and gun games but not with top down view. But I decided to give it a try 4 years ago or so and.. well, I didn't liked it. And one of the main reasons for that is in unnecessary difficulty. Like, if someone took you down then you don't start from the checkpoint or from the place where you lost. You start the level from the beginning. And by "from the beginning" I mean that you have to clear the rooms from enemies all over again, no matter how far you got last time. And that is very, VERY annoying. The other reason, as I said, is in the art style. It gives me a bunch of very bad feelings when I look at the art style of this game. Like a feeling of sickness or those cheap childhood toys that your parents used to buy to you when you were a kid, and you felt their stink of the cheap plastic. So yeah, I don't like this game despite general consensus about it, because it's just not pleasant for me to play.

The Game is meant to be hard, the "Uneccesary Difficulty" you talk about is part of the game designs.
Irl, if you get shot with no protection you are not going to ignore it and perfectly stand up, also, there are checkpoints in the game, dunno what youre talking about, if you clear a floor, go to the next and die you will spawn on the 2nd floor.
The art style its meant to replicate old videogames, since the game was made 10 years ago and the story takes place on the 90s.

@@KatKat32 I know many old games of the same style that are hard but a lot more fair that Hotline Miami. Like Smash TV for example, Heavy Barrel, frigging Contra Force has top down levels that is a lot fair than Hotline Miami. And I lot more. So yeah, my point still stands.
In those games if you get killed, you respawn right away with few seconds invincibility to make it all fair in the same place where you were killed. It's only if you waste all of your extra lives, then you will have to restart level from the beginning.
Same with art style. A lot of 90s games has a better art style than Hotline Miami. Take those games that I named right now as an example.

This game is "diffrent" from other games out there. But it does lots of things better then others too. But for sure not for snowflakes.
