Agree, the Ben Holladay BiB at $60 is head scratching for me. Eagle Rare 10 blows it outta the water($39) It'd be a really good buy at $35-40, there are way too many good bottles at $60 or below. OF 1910, WT RB, Trails End 10 yr, Barrel Foundation and Tumblin' Dice SB to mention a few.
Second time viewer. Unfortunately, I believe everyone could put 8 bottles up that we just don’t like. That is actually the thing that drives us to continue to hunt! We watch videos, go to tastings and try new things other people have recommended or tried. We all have different tastes and they continue to change and evolve everyday. In my 5 year journey, I can honestly say there is only 1 bottle that was so disgusting to me, I would have thrown it out, save for a friend of a friend who agreed to take it off my hands, thank you Jesus! It was from a distillery in Pennsylvania called Wiggle. With that said, I would gladly go to this distillery and try their other products because I am sure they would have something I would like. Or at least, that is my optimistic opinion. With that said, keep on getting on, and drink what you like, whenever you like. Thanks guys for your reviews!
Iron Root has a blended and finished line of bottles under the name Saints Alley. They blend their Iron Root distillate with MGP and finish it in various barrels. That’s the stuff I like.
I would agree with you on Holladay and EC18. Also not a fan of OFSBBS. I know I know, but all the ones I’ve had taste like salted Christmas hams and oak.
Dont understand the Holladay hype. Its been around forever, they just changed the name from McCormick. Remember those $5 plastic handles of whisky and vodka we'd buy as poor HS and college kids? Just put it in glass now and charge more
Agreed, they are crazy for saying Rio is overrated lol. Also the EC18 is overly oaked but its at the right price, especially compared to HH18 which is the same quality and 2x the price, any potato knows EC' sweet spot is 8-9years.
Larceny BP. Tried 4-5 different batches and it’s fine but don’t think it is anything special. Agree with EC18. Just tastes like semi-sweet oak water…not worth the price. Prefer ECBP to both and it’s not particularly close.
Yea, fomo got me when i saw minnicks end of year list. Its not bad, but one of the best of 23?, ehhh... red breast cs 12 tastes similar ro me and slightly better, but again dont think i will re buy..
Don't mind the Holliday that much, it's ok but HH BiB is probably better. completely agree on the EC18, way overpriced and yeah maybe if the proof was higher it would be better. But as it is it's oak overload. One bottle I can't seem to get into is Old Scout might be my first drain pour.
I tried the Rio last night. It was better than the other pour I had at the bar but I would not run out and buy it! Although it smells great. But nowhere near as good as the Starlight cigar batch. Rye or bourbon!
Ugh. Being a Michigan guy who likes to support local, I’ve got to agree on Mayor Pingree take. The Red falls short but, is reasonably priced. The Black and Blue labels are very good but, a bit costly. All that being said, be picky because Valentine puts out some very good stuff.
Calling Rio overrated is rough. Heavily sought after for a good reason like most the others you mentioned. One of the best out there Eric Hasman with B.B gave it a 4/5 review and most others agree.
Y'all need to give the Penelope Cask strength store picks a shot-- the label is Pink in color, pretty solid stuff-- and McScrooges in KnoxvilleTn. Where I got mine ❤
Yeah I traded my Penelope Rio or a Wild Turkey 12 year because it just gets too rich and sweet after the first few pours. Still love Penelope this was just toooo much for me
I got that same funk the first time i tried ironroot harbinger. When i went back i discovered a nice chocolate cocoa with cinnamon and it just got better and better every time i went back to it. that funk was gone.
I prefer the soft red wheat bib for Holladay. The bib is ok but not a great pour. I’m not into finished bottles. I can do toasted but wine or rum finished is way out for me.
Harbinger is definitely the benchmark…I have had two bottles of it and two of Promethean and I am with you. They have some finished stuff under a different label that is maybe interesting, but that is a different label (Saint’s Alley). And it hurts me to say that....they are so nice! Just give me more Still Austin.
…you might want to give the Holladay Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse Proof a shot…I am still processing it, but it is the big fave expression from them here in Oklahoma.
@@bourbonkingdom I have read amburana has the same problem that cilantro does for some people who think it tastes soapy. I absolutely love my Rio batch 2 bottle. But that is the way flavors work, I have a bottle my wife and I hate but keep because my son likes it.
Does that Ben Holladay have a 6 year age statement on it? I’m quite surprised you didn’t like it. Definitely give a “one barrel” or Rickhouse Proof a go.
It's refreshing to see whiskey tubers calling BS on overhyped and overpriced products. Tired of seeing so-so bottles get a pass because tubers to got a free bottle and too scared to state the truth. Bring the pain!
Completely agree with the EC18. Juice isn’t good even at half the price. Man I don’t know what happened with your 🐎 black. I’ve had it side by side with gold. Gold was better but the black wasn’t terrible. Based on your review are you sure someone didn’t play a joke on your and switch it out with Dickel. 😁
I have exactly the same problem with Dickel products. There is a note, and it's the same note with all of them, that doesn't agree with me. I wonder if it is the water they use.
They're known for their minerality note. Likely from the water and the sugar maple charcoal filtering. I love it. Reminds me of scotch and adds a balancing complexity.
I was really disappointed with the Dickel 13-year bottled in bond. The taste to me was just licking wet wood with no other notes to speak of. I gave it away.
For someone only looking for Dusty bourbon you should like them all I have the 18 yr but when it first came out. But definitely don’t listen too the bourbon junkies they stay drunk. I guess my 2013 birthday bourbon is trash.
My "not worth the hype" bottle is the Old Overholt 10 Yr. So much hype and talk about it. I am a long-time rye guy, so I know my ryes. It just seems underwhelming. Not good. Not bad. CERTAINLY not worth $100. I'll stick w Sagamore / JD / Redwood Empire

George dickle 12 , I poured 3/4 of a bottle down the drain. I tried a drink 1 time on 2 different occasions over the course of a month and I tasted like $h!t both times!
That's a true Texas Whiskey...That's why it misses the mark for you lol. Still Austin isn't Texas...Yeah its done in Texas and whatnot, but it's blended to be eerily similar to Kentucky whiskey.
@@ryanswihart1448Seriously, out of 10 or so videos I've watched of these guys, 90% of what they talk about is how much they dislike or were letdown by so many good and very good bourbons to most other people. I don’t get the are as whiskey thing either. I don’t like any of them. Still Austin, Balcones this Iron Root Harbinger are not for me at all. They all taste the exact same. And they all now just sit on my shelf. I can’t do it. I’m done with any Texas whiskey at this point.

Surprised by the Holladay. The wheaters I don’t care for, but the BIB bourbon is amazing to me.

Well said! Couldn’t agree more. Cheers🥃
That Dickel 8 yr slaps!!!! $29 by me and it’s really so good with no mineralality

Ben H is great !
Yep, the hype is warranted. I dont think they understand they have the wrong bottle of BH, nobody buys that one, gotta have the red label.
The Ben Holliday Soft Red Wheat is the way to go…give that a shot over the normal BIB!
will do
I would agree with you on Holladay and EC18. Also not a fan of OFSBBS. I know I know, but all the ones I’ve had taste like salted Christmas hams and oak.
I'm a big Holladay fan and one thing that stuck out to me is your bottle didn't have a big red 6 or 7 on it. Maybe some early batching inconsistency.
The newer releases of Holladay are older and better. Also, the barrel strength versions are much better
exactly they picked the gut swill version and called it bad lol.
Dont understand the Holladay hype. Its been around forever, they just changed the name from McCormick. Remember those $5 plastic handles of whisky and vodka we'd buy as poor HS and college kids? Just put it in glass now and charge more
Its simple, you send enough you tubers a bottle for free so they talk them up and the sales go up. Simple marketing
If you can find a small bottle.
We were drinking Ben Holliday before the Whiskeytubers jumped on board. The soft red wheat single barrels and rickhouse proofs are where it's at.
Good job guys. I like my EC18. Never going to buy another but hey I’m enjoying the one I have.
Good to hear!
Nah I'll buy Rio over and over. It's delicious. I totally agree with EC18
Agreed, they are crazy for saying Rio is overrated lol. Also the EC18 is overly oaked but its at the right price, especially compared to HH18 which is the same quality and 2x the price, any potato knows EC' sweet spot is 8-9years.
Ben Holladay is great...13th Colony is one of the best if not the best...also Frey Ranch
There's nothing you like about Elijah Craig 18, yet bottle is about empty!😂
I swear, I feel like these dudes just try to be different on whiskytube by talking down on popular releases.
Ironroot Harbinger wasn’t bad! The cask strength version.

I bought a bottle of Clyde Mays about a decade ago, it was so bad I almost gave us bourbon
A good friend of mine had me try the Charter Oak and boy it was so oaky; that it was like chewing on a stick. It definitely cured FOMO!
I bet lol

I don't particularly care for high aged bourbon. They are apt to take on overly woody notes. Not so with Scotch, its the aging environment.
Ben holladay bib is awesome. So well done
Agree on
B. Holladay. It didnt live up to the hype and just wasnt that good.
I tried P Rio and it's not bad. Would I pay almost 200 for it. That's a big no for me
Y'all need to give the Penelope Cask strength store picks a shot-- the label is Pink in color, pretty solid stuff-- and McScrooges in KnoxvilleTn. Where I got mine ❤
That's a local btl.shop( I think) Most TW liquor chains probably have them too--
Penelope Rio was horrible but I really enjoyed Jefferson's Tropics
I live down the road from Ironroot. Love the Harbinger. Probably one of the best smells to me.
Yeah I traded my Penelope Rio or a Wild Turkey 12 year because it just gets too rich and sweet after the first few pours. Still love Penelope this was just toooo much for me
Like your show but can you more spacific why you like or dislike, I’m talking about actual tasting note professional descriptor.
ben holladay is excellent. yikes.
You are completely right about the Ironroot Harbinger. Tried it last week and there is a very funky note in it that is off putting. Would not buy it.
My go to Texas Whiskey is TX Bourbon, their Barrel Proof and Cask Finish Series are very underrated wheaters out of Ft Worth.
I got that same funk the first time i tried ironroot harbinger. When i went back i discovered a nice chocolate cocoa with cinnamon and it just got better and better every time i went back to it. that funk was gone.

No hate on that Dickel bottle being a miss. I own it and hate myself for buying this bag of peanuts in a bottle.
Only disagree w/ the Ben Holladay. Absolutely love my BiB 6 yr & SRW RP 6yr.
Great vid. Gotta try the Ben Holladay soft red wheat rickhouse proof!!
The Rickhouse was great! Although oddly, I like the OG BiB Holladay (the one in this video) over the BiB Soft Red.

Huge Penelope fan. The Rio is by far one of the best amburana finishes in whiskey! Hard to believe you guys find it so off putting.
I find it way more then Zach does. I have tried every amburana and they just are absolutely not my style at all.
@@bourbonkingdom I have read amburana has the same problem that cilantro does for some people who think it tastes soapy. I absolutely love my Rio batch 2 bottle. But that is the way flavors work, I have a bottle my wife and I hate but keep because my son likes it.
I like the Ironroot Harbinger bottle that I have. Have sampled it out and received favorable responses from everyone. Rio is good at MSRP. 🥃
Does that Ben Holladay have a 6 year age statement on it? I’m quite surprised you didn’t like it. Definitely give a “one barrel” or Rickhouse Proof a go.
I mostly agree with your list, but you must have gotten a bad bottle of Ben Holiday. My bottle is delicious and the soft red wheat is even. Better!

eeverybody has a different taste so my suggestions is buy a small bottle before buying
Any whiskey over $60 is overhyped as far as I'm concerned
Dickel dew is where that bottle shines
What
Let that Rio sit for a couple of weeks. I hated it off the neck..

“Not worth the hype”

Love the Ben Holladay. Tastes alot like Eagle Rare.

Rio is just stupid overpriced. $130 for young whiskey is not my thing.
The Rio is 🔥 but I appreciate you sharing your wrong opinions 🤣
Agree on the Ben Holladay...just mid at best. 😐
Ben Holliday Bib tops the list. C whiskey
Angels Envy CS is good but at $250 it’s way overpriced.
Bookers- never again
Was very surprised this wasn't on the list honestly.
Do you all ever do a video about shit you LIKE? All I ever see is stiff you don’t like. Dickel BiB is the bomb.
