    Thank you so much for watching the video I hope you were helped by the information I provided in some way!
    The Toto Eco Drake II is an evolution of my favorite toilet made by Toto the Original Toto drake 2 piece toilet was the best toilet in its class by a million miles! Toto is a Japanese company and from most of the manufacturing stamps i see on the inside of the toilets they sell they appear to be manufactured in Mexico, China and the US. Thats really cool! They have a massive variety of toilets to choose from they are not simply limited to the Drake nor is the Drake the best toilet they make overall. The Drake is the best toilet you will find at the price point the drake is at point blank period! So if flushing power is what you want out of your low flow toilet then you need look no further than the Toto Drake or the new Toto Eco Drake II without a doubt this will be the best flushing low flow toilet in your house that does not have to exploit the dual flush to consider it a low flow toilet.
    If you liked the video and want to leave me a tip or donate to the channel every dime I receive will be put back into the production of this channel so if you want to see more videos and better production quality this is one way to contribute to making that happen but honestly either way I sincerely appreciate you for taking your time to watch my video!

    Thank you for this video!! I was able to install the same toilet without
    any problems. The hardest part for me when I had to place the toilet.
    While installing the Drake that I got I noticed two small differences, I
    noticed that the flush valve gasket was shaped a little differently and
    the two bolts to connect the tank came with plastic hand tightening nuts
    instead of the regular nuts. Maybe too many DIYers breaking toilets.
    I also stacked two Everbilt rings on top like you did in the video!! I had
    to rewatch the video to make sure the order was correct. Just wondering, why do you
    stack the ring with the plastic center on top of the plain ring?

    I just received a Drake 2021 model that I ordered. One thing I'm scratching my head about: the rear hump that holds up the tank isn't a clean glazed hump like in this video. It's sliced off a bit leaving an unglazed edge, but the slice isn't perfectly level. At first I thought it arrived broken but it seems to have been manufactured that way. The apex of the slice seems to be level with the front two humps, so I'm guessing it's ok. If the slice was perfectly level I wouldn't think twice, but it just seems odd and a bit sloppy. Have you seen any units like this?

      The Knipex really are builty very very well and built to last you can tell they are a quality wrench when youve got them in your hands, My favorite part about them is how they lock in place so If i drop them when im in a weird spot and I only have one hand free I dont have to let everything go to readjust the wrench, that may not sound like a big deal to alot of people but to me that is HUGE.

    In the process of installing a Toto Drake - I put the bowl down first (without the tank) because I wanted to make sure it would seat tight to the floor first.
    So, after getting that done, I'm now attaching the tank to the bowl. A little awkward but not too bad. The problem I'm having is that I'm slowly tightening up the nuts on the attachment bolts, alternating side-to-side but there's still about a 1/8 inch gap space from getting the tank to actually touch and sit down on the two front ridges.
    The tank-to-bowl gasket was pushed all the way tight to the bottom of the tank when I installed it so it's not as if it's bunching up.
    I'm concerned if I crank down any more on these nuts now that then I'll crack something.
    I was thinking of just leaving it as is but I dont like the idea of the entire tank's weight with water inside supported by just the rubber gasket.
    I'm going to leave it as is overnight and see if the rubber gasket will compress a little more tomorrow.
    Any advice?

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  Před 5 měsíci

      Put slight pressure on the front of the tank by putting your hand on the top ridge and pulling it slightly toward the bowl while tightening, that’s how I usually do it

    • @thebordernow
      @thebordernow Před 5 měsíci

      @@PlumbingExplained That's what I was doing near the end and it did seem to help. However, it's getting to where the nuts are requiring a lot more force to tighten and I can hear what others on the internet at other plumbing advice sites are describing as "porcelain resisting" or "creaking" or "groaning" sounds, and so they too stopped tightening any more for fear of cracking something.
      Thinking back now, I think my sound was more like the bottom washer "digging into" the underside of the bowl's mounting area. It was kind of a "gritty" sound yet with a sense of "internal porcelain stress" - best way I can describe it.
      I will try slowly tightening up a little more today after letting it sit in place overnight. That helped too when I installed the bowl - I had used a Fluid master "Better Than Wax" rubber ring with just the integral thin foam piece (not the additional spacer). My flange sits up above the tile floor the usual 1/4" but with the Fluid master rubber gasket, the bowl was still off the floor by a 1/4".
      I sat on it while tightening and that helped but I had to leave it for a day and come back to finally tighten it to the floor, so I'm hoping that will work with the tank-to-bowl rubber gasket too - giving it some time to adapt to its current compressed state and then be able to compress more. (Thinking back now, since I had not attached the tank to the bowl before setting the toilet to the flange, maybe missing that extra weight was part of the reason I couldn't get the bowl to seat all the way to the floor on the first try I just didn't have enough weight pressing down on the rubber flange seal!)

  • @5555boneman
    @5555boneman Před 5 lety +3

    How much torque for the tank to bowl bolts? Hand tight and a bit? The only thing I'm worried about for my own install is this. Too loose and it'll leak / too tight and risk cracking the equipment.

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  Před 5 lety +1

      So the Toto’s have these little porcelain tabs on the bowl where the tank sits on top and what I do is I watch in between the gap once the porcelain has touched down on both the right and left side I slightly apply pressure to tilt the tank toward me raising the back side like 1/4” or less and then I tighten a little more until the back part of the tank is now resting upon the last tab

      @Spock the bottom of the toilet has a bell shape that fits directly into the wax with horn or flange as I call it, you always want that wax ring seating directly into that bell, if you put the half wax first often times wax will push back into the drain line or it slightly moves as you are setting the toilet and wax squeezes out of the base of the toilet and that cause issues.

      Hi Michael Yes these toilets are absolutely acceptable for California I actually live in Southern California and Ive been recommending these toilets for along time specially when we were in that water crisis the County state and sometimes city would even offer rebates for these toilets because they are water savers. They are only 1.28gpf compared to the older water hogging toilets.

      To :@@PlumbingExplained Thanks for your help regarding Toto Drake two piece toilets. It is my understanding that Toto makes three different toilets in regard to low flushing volume -- 1.6, 1.28 and 1.0 GPF. These apparently are all of lower flushing volume than the older models. Since the 1.6 GPF model: Toto CST744SB#11 is sold on Amazon, I wondered if it was OK to use it in Los Angeles, California. -- Michael

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  Před 5 lety

      @@malanstecker Yes Michael it is totally fine to use that toilet in Los Angeles as it is still dramatically lower than most older water hog toilets which use between 2.5-5gallons per flush But if you want my honest professional opinion the 1.6gpf toilet does not flush any better than the 1.28gpf Now i dont have a ton of experience with the 1.0gpf toilets and I am somewhat optimistic as to how the 1.0gpf toilets do in plumbing systems that are older and potentially have longer runs to the main sewer but the 1.28gpfs are in my opinion great toilets so if you can get them for the same price I would probably snag the 1.28gpf toilets and like I said before do some research with your water district, county and state to see if there are any rebates available for these toilets as back a few years ago I remember my customers were getting multiple rebates some up to $100 per toilet from each the city state and county.
      If you are doing multiples of these toilets and you need somebody to install them feel free to give me a call or text 949-235-2964 im just in orange county.

      I’ve been hearing complaints recently about the redesigned toto eco drake II with the dual flush. I would personally go with the Toto Drake 1.6g if you can get ahold of any of those. That is legitimately my favorite toilet for the money on the market. Otherwise if you can find any of the 1.6gpf 1piece toilets in your price range by toto go that way. Regardless Toto is #1 no doubt in my mind and they don’t pay me a dime

    Good video, but I am totally confused as to which model of toilet you feature in this video. I just bought a TOTO toilet from Amazon because of your video and ordered the Toto toilet kit CST744SL#01. That kit is made up of 2 pieces. 1) TANK part ST743S#01 which has 1.6gpf which I think is perfect because it has the greater amount of water when flushing, and 2) BOWL part C744EL#01. The biggest problem here is the BOWL does not have the cyclonic action as shown in your video. I’m not sure what bowl you have in the video and nowhere in your notes does it appear. Now I’ve installed it I don’t think it can be returned.

      I see. I was confused because the Drake is sold as a 2 piece set, and I simply thought the “Drake II” was the same thing. It’s a different model. They have so many toilets on the Toto website I missed it.

    We just ordered two TOTO CST776CSFG#01, but now I am worried because I just measured my old toilets, and from the center bolts of my existing toilet to my back wall is 11", and from what I understand the ones I ordered have a 12" rough in. I ordered them shipped AND sold by Amazon, and I checked and I can return the toilets for free. They have not arrived yet, but it's also too late to cancel the order. Do I think I will have to return these and get the 10" versions? Or is there some forgiveness in installation room, and the 12" version I ordered will work? I tried to google an answer to my question, but could not find a solid answer. Thanks!

    Why did you stack your wax rings that way with the plastic piece on top and 2 wax rings ????

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  Před 3 lety

      Dee Johnson the horn on the bottom of the toilet sits perfectly into the horn on the wax ring with horn, also by stacking that ring ontop you prevent the possibility of the half wax slipping off to the side. Honestly I use to do it the opposite way my dad does it the opposite way and I don’t think either way is really right or wrong but the way I’m showing in this video is without a doubt the best most efficient way to stack the rings. The reason I now always do 2 wax rings even on a single story is because I’ve had toilets I set with one single wax ring where the foundation of the home settled or something and just one year later on a single story I had a toilet leaking from the base and it was because I had only used one wax ring. So of course even though it was a year later I didn’t charge the customer for the visit because I blamed myself

      I guess he uses 2 wax rings on all installs, but if you look closely at the install in the video, the flange is below or level with the floor, probably because the room was tiled in after the flange was installed. If the flange is installed on top of the finished floor, then using one wax ring usually will work, but definitely need two rings if flange is at or below finished floor.
