RIP lead singer John Kezdy who died on Aug 26, 2023 in Glencoe a north suburb of Chicago in a bicycle accident with an Amazon truck. I remember seeing him play the clubs here in Chicago back in the early 80s, my younger days. Thanks for all the great music the Effigies gave us. Keep on punkin'
Yep. The best memories I have of my teen years from 15 yrs old going to shows were from 1981- 1984 when I graduated and left for the Army. Chicago will never that special magic of that early scene. God I miss it at 57 yrs old.
Being from Chicago was lucky to see them like 10 times fucking great band live and one of the best albums of it's time for this original true punk scene .Glad to have been a part of this punk scene late 70s early 80s
Shane Clare-Thayer don't know about "underrated and unsung." The Effigies played tons of shows in the early 80s, opening up for big punk/new wave bands that came to CHICAGO. They were a well regarded rockin' quartet. I saw 'em loads of times... :-)
"Below the drop" Lyrics: Picked a spot below the drop Knew something was about to fall I've been waiting around for long enough Now I hear my non-call We're not subjects of your stupid precepts We're built on grains of truth It's a no-class, sight-unseen report Not swayed by your abuse I'm not boxed in Religious convention is your own invention Called the lightning-fast fist of Man But religious slates don't dictate our fate I don't walk around in a trance Disbelief is what we preach To the troubles that make up our mind When things fall short of expectations It's time to redefine
Nothing Possibly Could Go Wrong With THE EFFIGIES & ARTICLES OF FAITH, That Came From Chicago. Much Appreciate For Uploading This, Greetings From Indonesia. 😊🙏
the Mentally Ill were sort of like the Steely Dan of punk since they recorded but never played live. Regardless they came from Chicago and released music.
did anyone care about them then? im under the killed by death recognition of gacys place made them seem more prominet than they were even close to being. kids from deerfield, right?
+downwiththemaster Actually they were asked to open a couple shows for Metallica but were temporarily broken up at the time and it would have been the return leg of the tour right after Cliff Burton died so it wouldn't have happened anyway. Look up the interview with John Kezdy of the Effigies on Creative Loafing and stop being such a poser purist.

That's a messed up way to die, damn.
Way to die. Fucking old dude on the bike. I'm 57, i don't dare driving on 2 wheels.
Sad, he was so young. Iconic Chicago.
Great EP. The Effigies and Naked Raygun should've gotten worldwide recognition.
Fuck ya! Both bands are fucking legendary. Saw Naked Raygun in Phoenix in the 80's but was never fortunate enough to catch the Effigies.

This right up there with Complete Control, God Save The Queen, Sonic Reducer, You Bastard and Boredom. Top quality punk
One of the best punk records ever! Great band live!!
R.I.P. John Kezdy
Awesome EP. I played this record over and over, way back then. 31 Years later, I remember all of the lyrics and still think it's awesome!!

Same era here, but Los Angeles/Orange County. Definitely the perfect period to be a member of the disenfranchised youth \m/ (xx) \m/
So true
RIP John Kezdy. Bike crash. Passed last night. :(
:(
This is such an epic, solid oldschool midwest punk album. Iconic.
Underrated and unsung band. Great Chicago HC

"Below the drop" Lyrics:
Picked a spot below the drop
Knew something was about to fall
I've been waiting around for long enough
Now I hear my non-call
We're not subjects of your stupid precepts
We're built on grains of truth
It's a no-class, sight-unseen report
Not swayed by your abuse
I'm not boxed in
Religious convention is your own invention
Called the lightning-fast fist of Man
But religious slates don't dictate our fate
I don't walk around in a trance
Disbelief is what we preach
To the troubles that make up our mind
When things fall short of expectations
It's time to redefine
One of the best EP's I've ever heard, still love it decades later..
Nothing Possibly Could Go Wrong With THE EFFIGIES & ARTICLES OF FAITH,

I like the fact that they don't try to make themselves some British. They sound great just the way they are or were
Total bone chilling chemistry ..
Saludos desde Monte Grande, Argentina!
Saludos desde LAS VEGAS NEVADA, EEUU
Hence the usage of the Chicago city flag on the album cover.
I saw them probably 3 times in LA
Love it ... thank you
Canada? This band is from Chicago, Illinois, USA.
released in Canada
think the 12" was pressed in Canada
Yeah, Chicago was one of the first places for punk back in the very early 80's. Good times.
the Mentally Ill were sort of like the Steely Dan of punk since they recorded but never played live. Regardless they came from Chicago and released music.
did anyone care about them then? im under the killed by death recognition of gacys place made them seem more prominet than they were even close to being. kids from deerfield, right?
still fuckin kicks
I have a mod for fallout that plays a shit load of punk music and that's how I discovered this song haha
Canada? The Effigies were a Chicago band.
Probably for import to
Or a Canadian release
Uh, Chicago didn't really have punk bands until around 1980....
Tutu & the Pirates. They were not thrash, but they were punk-early punk.
uh, yes they did
Nice to see someone else that knows their history! I love tutu and the pirates, this is def one of my favs too though
Da was formed in '78.
Incorrect. Tutu & The Pirates, The Mentally Ill, DA all predate 1980 in band formation.
Didn't they open up for Metallica back then?
+Archibald LapDoggy no
+Archibald LapDoggy i dont even know why you would even say that
