      Many hostages were taken by criminal elements from Gaza and they attempted to sell them to Hamas. Hamas refused which is why it's difficult to arrange release because Hamas does not control all hostages.

    • @adigabai
      @adigabai Před měsícem

      @@TheThoughtfulMinority2067 There is at least one released hostage who said she was sold to Hamas. At least one released hostage managed to escape once and was caught by a Gazan who took him back to Hamas. Hamas led that attack, and they informed at least some of those elements. They wanted the hostages spread around, easier to control, and sneak around with small groups or singles.
      Nothing went on in Gaza without their knowledge and approval. If they truly want, they can arrange the release. But part of their known MO is playing mind games. That is the real reason they say they can't give an update on all of the hostages they have and their status. Maybe they don't know of all of them, but out of 133, they must know about some.
      Also, they want a ceasefire to regroup without giving anything significant in return. So, they condition getting a list of hostages after the IDF withdraws from the Gaza Strip, which is not going to happen. They already had enough time of limited fighting to weasel their way back to already cleared parts.

      @@TheThoughtfulMinority2067considering that Hamas is ruling with an iron fist in Gaza, automatically being on top of the criminal food chain - this sounds highly unlikely. A small Mafia boss, ignoring direct orders from Hamas wouldn't survive in Gaza for very long... So it sounds like they just don't have these hostages, but afraid to let it be known, as Israeli soldiers would become much more trigger-happy if they learn there are no living hostages in the area of operations....

      @@TheThoughtfulMinority2067 The UNRwa headquarters building parking lot sunk a few years ago, but they didn't know. The electricity bill alone for a server farm is high, and there are cables running down from the room on top. They knew enough to take the hard drives from their own servers before they evacuated the building. And building tunnels is noisy. They knew.

    • @TheThoughtfulMinority2067
      @TheThoughtfulMinority2067 Před měsícem

      @@adigabai Things aren't as clear as you'd have them... Subsidence in sandy coastal areas like Gaza is common. The "server farm" was ten racks of basic equipment, maybe 10kW plus 4kW a/c load, small enough to be dwarfed by the loads in the UNRWA building, ie inefficient a/c equipment in a leaky building in that climate... it wouldn't be noticed.
      Telecoms cables are usually distributed underground and wifi/microwave systems are on the roof, nothing unusual about cables running from basements to roof mounted equipment. The tunnels weren't in rock, most Gaza tunnels I've seen are in loose material and the "shell" type of reinforcement would be placed by hand so not a noisy construction method, probably why they chose it. Everyone would take their hard drives when evacuating, just in case the last backup wasn't complete. I suspect that some UNRWA employees would have been aware but probably not those higher up and not many because it would make sense for Hamas to limit awareness of such things, they certainly wouldn't have let people with lots of international contact become aware.
