Juiced Bikes HyperScorpion Review - $3.2k

- The HyperScorpion is a powerfully fast electric moped from Juiced Bikes, high-capacity battery and a custom Bafang motor provide impressive acceleration and range, available in the lower 48 US states with free shipping. Powerful lights and turn signals for safe and legal street operation, durable fenders, mirrors, and cargo accessories will be enticing for delivery workers, full suspension for a comfortable ride with a tall seat option for larger riders. Shimano Altus drivetrain is fairly basic but pairs great with the powerful electric system, sturdy and eye-catching construction looks and feels premium, easily capable of reaching 30mph (48kph) and beyond. May be too heavy for smaller riders but the weight does add stability at speed, technically a low-power scooter requiring registration in most states, online-only ordering means no "try before you buy" option and requires some assembly after unboxing. We purchased two Juiced Bikes for review and they gave us two for free to review. This is one that they gave to us for free :)
UPDATE: In the video, I recommended registering this as a Low Power Scooter to make sure that you ride legally. After some back-and-forth with the DMV in Colorado I have determined that this is not actually possible since Juiced Bikes does not provide a VIN or MSO. See the full written review (link in description) for more details on this.
This model originally pre-ordered for the price of $2,899 which is why that price is mentioned in the video. As of August 1st, the price has gone up to $3,199. This is displayed as a "sale price" discount of $300, which means the standard price is $3,499. It is not clear how long this current sale will run for.

hey did u ever mention the dropout size of the bike frame? dont think I heard it? great review.
What a great review! I have one and two issues:
1. Front brakes are squeaking.
2. Battery has slightly warped and seems to have moved to the left ever so slightly
Do you have any advice? Thanks so much.
@@tomatojuice12 For the brakes, the likely cause of squeaking is dirty rotors/pads. I've cleaned my rotors with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol and that usually takes care of it!
@@tanatan7280 Thanks! I am not sure what the dropout size is... and unfortunately I'm away from the bike for at least a month. I'll see if I can get that info from Juiced :)
ElectricBikeReview said, "in Colorado I have determined that this is not actually possible since Juiced Bikes does not provide a VIN or MSO. See the full written review (link in description) for more details on this. "
I didn't see any more details in the link you provided...but most states have (or they used to have) a way to CREATE a registration for home-made vehicles which I would think would work for this scenario. It's a special class of vehicle. I registered a home-made trailer just a few years ago.
Every time I watch this review I learn something new about the HyperScorpion. Thank you for all the relevant info and also thank you for doing sych an excellent and thorough review without any expletives! So hard to find "clean" reviews these days. Please keep up the excellent work!
Totally agree, best review I have seen yet, so much detail about all aspects, I was looking everywhere to see how the gear shifter worked and found the answer here. I really like that it doesn't have wire spoke wheels, and has all the included features, too many to mention.
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful :D
Great, in depth review EBR. Thanks for taking the time to go over each detail of the Hyperscorpion.
I just got my Hyperscorpion this week and I love it. I live at the top of a mountain and the true test for this bike was going up a street so steep that cars won’t drive up it when it snows heavily. The Hyperscorpion went up the incline at 27 mph (peddling) which to me, is great. Because of my mountainous, remote location I’m looking to get a second onboard battery to help me out when no one is around and cell phone coverage fails. Still learning about how to do this. A Big Thanks Tora!
you can add a second battery ?
I am wondering how is it possible that 50 people don't like this video, this video IS SO AMAZING. GREAT JOB!!!
Jealousy? Ignorance? Oh well, not everyone likes great videos apparently!
Now this is what spending 3.2k on a e bike should look like .
$2,400 as of march 2021
@@hamzterix more like it👍🏼
Best review ever. I have had one for 3 years and i learned a lot. Well done.
My wife and I each purchased a Hyperscorpian and absolutely love them. Fun and lots of utility for our needs.
That's awesome! They really are great for utility, especially if you expand the cargo with a bigger rack.
Great review and learnt so much as wait for mine to ship. An addition to my Radrover 5 but I can see myself riding this one more.
I'm loving my Hyper scorpion riding all around Los Angeles. Especially the bike paths up in Griffith Park.😊
Loved the review. Very detailed and informative. Thank you very much! I purchased the HyperScorpion Express, now if I could just get FedEx to deliver it, I'd be off to the races!
Just got mine today and I can’t stop riding it. Great bike, it really rips!
I've been building performance ebikes for a decade+ and am so impressed with this build @ just $3200 - very well done.
My adjustments would include implementing a 52v-Mid-Drive of 1500watts+ with a 52t covered chainring & a Shimano 3sp IGH w/tensioner driving a 14-22t rear wheel cog. All of this has proven serious reliability - instead of all those high maintenance 'fragile' moving parts and indirect chain-lines of using any kind of derailleur... Besides, no well-powered ebike needs more than 3 gears anyway. 1-Low for hills, 2-regular dogged direct drive and then 3-high for road cruising at 35mph traffic speed .
i was really looking forward to this hyper hype review, really appreciate it brother,
so much for torque sensor in a hub driven motor haa, thanks for lifting the lid off this hyper buddy,
Awesome review of the hyper scorpion
I can’t wait to get one!
Some corrections. Tail light cannot be shut off. Motor peaks at 1700 watts. And if you really need 70 miles of range you better be in eco mode only (11-12mph) and pedaling all the time. Real life range is probably 20 - 35 miles, your not going to want to go slow on this hot rod! The bike is awsume though, I'm very happy I bought it.
I agree with your 20-35 mile battery range. In "S" mode I get about 20+ miles. In "Race" mode I did 15 miles and only had 2 bars left.
The bike is well built and fun as hell, but I was hoping for more range from this battery. Perhaps I am asking too much because I am 6'2" and 250 Lbs. For $3200 I could have gotten a 150cc scooter :(
I rode mine hard for 25 miles in race mode on steep hills and as fast as I could and it only used 1/2 the battery. I would say that It should give you at least 40 miles of reasonable service on a charge.
@@jeffweiss2131 Utterly Impossible! Take a pic of the advanced display showing that.
@@larrybasinski8596 I am not certain how to include a picture here but my screen says 32.9 Wh/Mi. I think that works out to 30 miles per kilowatt charge. I live on the top of a long steep hill. I am usually riding in race mode but maybe not always very hard. I can easily see how I could stretch the charge to 40 miles. I think that would be a normal range to expect for a more reasonable riding pace. I always race up the hill! I regularly catch cars on city streets. I still have very few miles on the bike so I don't really know what to expect.
Really good review, thank you. Very thorough and an interesting bike.
Top notch review! I've been considering one, because right now I ride a Honda scooter, but I want something that I don't have to drive in the road. I've had a few unsafe scares from bad drivers.
Thanks for the tour of CSU and Fort Collins as well as the e-bike review. - former Braiden Hall resident
i must say my friend you did a good review on that bike, you left nothing out we all now understand what that bike can do.thank you for such an understanding review .
Thanks for this realistic review, especially the part about this bike not really being geared (some pun intended) towards big rear cog/lowest gear riding. It's set up cafe racer style without any way to adjust the seat (other than with the optional riser) that's much more like a scooter or moped than a regular gear shifting power assisted bicycle. (That part is obvious just from looking at it but I never would have known that the bigger rear cogs weren't usable. That seems kind of like a shame because the ability to use the lowest gears could help with climbing and ease up the strain on the motor.)
Excellent review. I felt like I was on the bike too. Thank you!
You are welcome, glad it was helpful :D
Great review, very comprehensive......thanks 👍👏😀
Have this bike, it makes my other ebikes seem like toys. Everyone loves it, really
Comfortable and surprisingly agile.
With saddle bags and extra custom storage racks, is this something you'd feel more comfortable and confident on riding an epic long journey on🤔
First time watching! I’m from Alabama, but have a friend who lives in Fort Collins! Rode a bike right through that part of campus last time I visited!
It's a great place to ride!
How do I change it from kilometers to mph,
Suggestion for Juiced, make the ignition switch to where the key is removable and alarm remote would shut the bike off once set...
Excellent review. Thanks very much.
Very informative review. Thanks!
i have a regular scorpion ordered. the wait is killing me. got the controller upgrade coming as well along with the 4amp charger and mirrors. just wish the Juiced team was "available" during the weekends. i like to make sure that everything is on the up and up since i spent a total of about 2K. would have ordered the hyper scorpion, but they weren't in stock at the time.
great review though!
The funny thing is. When I got the bike I noticed that the chain is razor thin close to the tire. About three weeks in I got a rear flat. Snd was hell to change lol. But suffice it to say I got it done. But after getting everything back on it still seems razor thin to the tire. But from the main sprocket it just the way it’s designed. Tires could be better quality someone rated the tires on a low end spectrum. But the bike itself is cool 😎
Didn't mention that it has cruise control by holding down the minus button :D
One of my favorite features on this!
Whoa that's cool! I had no idea, thanks for sharing :D
This is really cool kinda wish I got this now but I went with a ariel x 52v
@@chefmesser420 how do you like the aerial
@@justinwindley6001wish I could tell you I have to wait until may until they ship it they are still being built. They did tell me that my bike will be in the first shipment group of bikes.. Totally sucks but I've heard it's worth the wait.
Thank you for an excellent review
Great review! There’s no such thing as too much information! I lusted after this bike when I first heard about it, but after your thorough detailed review, I feel it’s not practical for my needs considering the price, weight, and the fact that it seems to be 70% scooter 30% bicycle. I would be too tempted to 86 the drive train and install foot pegs. That would defeat the purpose of having a bike for some exercise with a little help with hills and head winds.
Well hey, I'm glad it was helpful! Spending this much for a bike really sucks if you find out later that it doesn't work well for you, having that experience is actually what inspired Court to start EBR in the first place :)
In Ca this is going to be considered a vehicle and will need registration which will render it useless on park bike trails IMO. At 15-1/2 I was able to get a permit to ride a 125 CC motorcycle and ride on the street in early 1970’s none of that is possible these days. Sadly. If you buy one get a good life insurance policy your speed will be underestimated by the car driver.
@@t.r.766 good to know, was about to look it up. I'm in CA too.
@@t.r.766
How do you register a vehicle that doesn’t have a VIN?
Just curious, as I would like to buy one myself.
I got the regular Scorpion for $1399 on 2020 Black Friday. How sweet!
Great review. I just ordered one a couple of hours ago on sale for $2200, so I am stoked. I know I should check out the reviews before buying, not after, but I think it is going to work out OK this time. Question, what was that campus where you did the first half of the review? It reminds me a lot of the Presidio in san Francisco. Was this too a former army base?
This was on Colorado State University campus, the part I was in is called the Oval. Super pretty!
Awesome review! Ordered mine a few days ago and definitely looking forward to getting it!
Just got mine, its awesome
I like this, but I also like the Super 73 R/RX (The R only comes in olive drab right now which is kind of a hard no for me). Which do you think is the better option for someone who is looking for a fun bike?
I really wouldn't trust these guys bought my hyperscorpion 2 weeks ago, came with bent rotor and grinding. They said they would ship out a rotor, then turned around and said the situation was my fault...not a stand up company at all.
Seems to be a common problem with most e-bike companies. My thoughts are the Chinese companies that a building these bikes are not vetting the people they allow to distribute and sell their bikes.
Thanks..I was about to get one. Scary
@@DatingPolitics I received a Hyper Scorpion Express and I couldn't be happier. Of course you will hear A LOT more from people that are unhappy than you will from people that are happy. But I give mine glowing reviews.
It's a rebranded Chinese ebike
I've had my issues with the hyper scorpion I purchased , how ever after all is said and done I really enjoy riding that e- bike all over LA .😊
Thanks for the outstanding review, may I ask what town that you drove through? That was a cool little town. Looking into areas to be closer to my son who is outside Colorado Springs and my brother who is outside Fort Garland.
I really like your video it was very informative gives me a great idea on what I get if I buy this
what an excellent, super thorough review of this awesome ebike! it being so heavy is kind of a drawback since i have to carry a bike up 6 or so steps up a front and into the house i live in now. unless i wait to buy it when I'm living in a ranch house with a garage. i love everything else about it though. it might be a challenge getting used to changing gears again.
Very good and complete review 👍🏼✌🏼
Thanks Mario, we do our best :)
@@ElectricBikeReview hello, I was considering buying one of these, but I recently saw a review by another buyer who noticed the shifter on the left side of the handle bars is upside-down, I then went to your website and looked at the photos you guys took and sure enough it's upside-down on the bike you reviewed also. Did you guys notice that? This is an issue that should be brought up to Juiced ebikes because people pay good money for a bike, I am sure they want things put together correctly. Please let me know if you notice the problem,or if it will be fixed. Until then there's no way I want to buy a hyper scorpion.
@@idamexmex4206 it isn't like that anymore
@@jonluzzi3015 that's good,I'm sure it didn't affect the function but when your paying thousands of dollars for something, you want it to be perfect
@@jonluzzi3015 are you part of the company or an owner?
I just saw this video today. I bought an E Bike a few weeks ago and I also installed a horn/alarm system on it. Well yesterday at the grocery store I turned on my alarm and a gust of wind set it off, lucky I was still next to it LOL :)
I honestly wonder just how long these motors will last being used this way. It seems that the concept of pedal assist has mostly become full motor assist in all of the videos lately that I have seen for both Juiced Super Scorpian and Ariel Rider"s Grizzly.
Perfect for a small town and best thing no licence or insurance required
Your web site is awesome. I have been researching bikes for months trying to figure out what is best for me. I like the scorpion, for the bench seat! It is heavy, 100 pounds. I like the folding bikes for putting it in my suv,but those are 60 pounds. I like suspension. Fat tires fir beach, trails, grass. I am 5' 3" and want a bike that I can have both feet on the ground while sitting on the seat. Inseam about 28 inches. Without test riding one, hard to decide.
Is there a kids, teen size bike?
Maybe that lowest gear causing the rattle is only necessary if the battery is really low and conserv ing the last of it just to get to the destination
Hey man thanks for these reviews they’re great and super helpful 🙏🏽 but I have a serious question for you! Which seat/seats are more comfortable to ride, the ones like on this hyper scorpion, or the one on the rip current s?! Please get back to me on this asap or anyone else who has an opinion!
Hey does it come with assembly instructions if you want to assemble it yourself. Also if a bike shop will not assist in assembly do you know if you can go to a scooter store?
Awesome review!! Can you do a review on the Ariel rider grizzly??
Nice review! I got a blue hyper! I forget to turn off my blinkers at time.
Adjust your front blinkers slightly to an upward angle towards you where you can see the lights when you turn on the signal.
@@jaykiec21 Great suggestion!
Hey man, great review! I have a question- I’m 6’3” like you and was really considering this bike. Do you feel cramped at all on the Hyperscorpion, or is it genuinely a comfortable ride? I’m assuming it’s wheelbase is tighter than say a Ripcurrent, which is another one that I’m interested, but the ability to go full throttle in race mode has me hooked on this one
I am 6'2" with a 32-inch inseam, and the seat extender is a must.
That said, the bike is comfortable, and I pedal all the time. I don't have a full leg extension, but with the motor helping, you really don't have to push too hard or stress your knees.
The range on race mode and pedaling is about 30 miles. So, I added a second battery, 20ah plus the original 19 = 39 ah. Now I go 30 miles with 4 bars left.
The bike is heavy. You don't feel it so much when riding but getting it into my truck bed is tough without help.
All that being said, if I were to do it all over again, I would get the CrossCurrent S2 at $1499. Lighter weight, slimmer tires, means going fast and, farther with less battery.
Have you kept the bike? If so, how have you like it after 10 months. I'm curious about the range over time.
Thank you, Joey Salads
great review ! what campus was that you were riding around ? very nice .
Colorado State University in Fort Collins :)
The Himiway is a great ride.
Test ride in the Ventura county CA area.
I’ve had my Hyperscorpion for a
year now. Just ordered new knobby tires and waiting for them. Cost me $2800 (rounded off) cuz I got the back seat and wow, I’m happy! My only issue is the brakes suck. Other than , just hoping it’ll last a few more years.
I would like to see an updated version of the HyperScorpion sold in Canada with the following upgrades:
1 - All cables integrated into the frame and bars. Zero exposure.
2 - Cold Weather package option - winter rubber, battery heater, upgraded IPX rating, heated grips, hand guards. maybe a tiny plastic windshield.
3 - a regen downhill mode\feature. various levels.
Sure and then you wouldn't buy it anyway due to the price.
How would you compare this to the Urban Drivestyle UNI Moke Classic?
Hello Sir, Did they improve the seats firmness? Thanks
It is why use regular Bike Frames from being spotted as a Scooter Rider from Cops. Using bike frames always gives first impression of a rider on Bike pedals. Just other day, I spotted a cop and I started to do the Bike rider behaviors of riding on sidewalk crossing section. The only time when people notice something different of their heads doing double take is when im riding next to their cars on 35 to 40 mph streets. I stay off Blvds DUE TO NOT TRUSTING ANY DRIVER AT ALL of their habits of driving blind towards riders, especially RIGHT CORNER TURNS.
a $2,400 bike as of march 2021, that's an all time best bang for your buck.
Would they have the tall seat accessory for the Scootstar Rockstar electric bike.
Excellent review.
I feel like the bike won't get out of its own way sometimes I got dual batteries and the big motor but it won't go nowhere I was thinking about designing a bike around the battery what do you think
Longest. Bike. Review. Ever... nice job!
There is no hydraulics in the front suspension they're just simply spring loaded out of the two knobs only one of them either locks out the front fork or allows it to move freely there is a spring in there it's kind of spongy though
Upgrade the paddle assist magnet would give it a little more torque
How wide are the handle bars across. Trying to see if it will fit in my garage.
Is that a Gopro you are shooting with or what camera?
how water resistant or waterproof are this baby? ok riding in light rain, or briefly in heavy rain?
Well it's a great machine. But Juiced Bikes could of wrapped up the cords on the front of the handle bars a lot more.
And the head light gives a lot of light for night riding as you said. And that's about it.
how do you turn off the rear tail light? my rear tail light alway on during daylight.
Today, Juiced HyperScorpion $1899 for 1000W 52V 19.2AH full suspension, mags fenders, rear rack, USB, alarm.
Great review.
I keep asking Tora and Juiced if they will be addressing the latency issue with the torque sensor kicking on and off and a few other firmware updates they really need to do on the RCS. I'd love it if they'd put the trip meter on the main screen instead of the odometer. Makes sense to put the trip meter on the main screen instead of burried on the stats screen.
What kind of selfie stick you used and cam? Great video.
I have the GoPro Hero8 Black, and I just use the selfie stick that came with it. I think GoPro calls it the "Shorty Stick" or something like that.
When riding I also use a chest mount, some generic one that I found for cheap on Amazon.
I bought my bike from the Indegogo campaign. I put 20 miles on it and sold it. One of the reasons I didn't like it was the weight. 100 lbs plus I felt was motorcycle weight. If they would have gone with spokes and lightened the frame would have been nice. I felt it was over engineered with the frame. Just to bulky. It would have been nice if this would have been 60 lbs. Another reason is the geometry of the frame. I wish it would have been the Camp Scrambler seat and configuration. Yes, it has a lot of power and cool things, but how am I going to get this on my bike rack? I thought the seat was not good. Just a few thoughts.
how much did you sell it for? im looking into selling mine too
@@biscotti3787 I put it in Facebook Market Place Listed for $2,200 and sold it for $2,000. I sold it to cheap. I had a lot of messages. Got rid of it in one day.

@@geefim2144 I would get the Camp Scrambler. I don't think their available. Their are other companies that make similar bikes. Good luck on your hunt!

Great review. Wow....lots of speed. I would hope someone that doesn't use all of that speed can ride all day at slower speeds. It will be interesting to see what the hyperscorpion 2 does.
Riding slower I can definitely get a lot more range on it... it's just so much fun to ride fast!
@@TysonRoehrkasse Heck yes it is!! I live in the mountains in CO. So, I'd need to conserve the speed to retain the climb/distance. Or, I could also just carry a second battery for the rides that were marginal.
Glad I found this Channel. Hello EBR, I am looking a e-roadbike for my wife. She is quite small, with 155cm and around 50kg. My guess would be framesize around 44~47. I found it hard to find her size even with normal road bikes, let along e-roadbike. Do you have suggestions?
Well I'm 5'2 and this Hyper is the safest I've ever felt on an ebike. It's sturdy, has amazing balance and with the step through frame it's super easy to get on/off and honestly the bigger complaints come from taller men wanting more leg room. Pedaling for me is perfect. Hope this helps her!
@@zengirl7510 emm, this is not really a roadbike I'm looking for. hhhh. She is used to ride road bike and e-roadbike would be the first choice. Or maybe a e folding bike. Do you have suggestions? Thanks!
How well does the seat hold up over time?
Interested in this but have read about multiple, less-than-favorable interactions (or lack thereof) with their customer service department. I get it, there’s an ongoing supply chain crisis, but there’s no excuse an email response time of weeks, or none at all.
Do both models have torque sensors?
is it possible to lock the top speed
at 25 km/h ? Because if it drives faster than 25 km/h, it no longer counts as a bicycle in Germany and you would have to pay insurance and taxes and you have to wear a helmet.
What did you use to film this video the qualiuty is very sharp and defined.
Hey David, I use a GoPro Hero8 Black, with some baffles over the mic holes to cut down on wind noise.
I paid 2350$ new for mine just last week.
I rode it once and it's fantastic!
It came by mail, no problems at all with the bike so far, no scratches, nothing missing.
About the blinker requiring manual turn off. It would be nice to see the light blinking from the rider's point of view as well, just to alert the rider, "Hey, you forgot to turn off the blinker!".
So, you said you leave it outside and bring the battery in after mentioning the alarm system. Does the alarm system work without the battery?
Yes. Alarm system has its own battery.
I don't like how seat stay at one hight but I'd really need to take it on a trip to really have opinion I want to get somthing like this I want somthing that will do 40mph
Would you recommend the scorpion or the hyperscorpion to somebody who’s never owned an ebike before?
Unless you have moped/scooter riding experience (or motorcycles) I would honestly recommend starting out with something lighter and less powerful than either of these. Even the regular Scorpion is pretty heavy, and they both have a lot of power!
water proof , have another bike got caught in 2 hurricanes and few thunder storms still works, will this survive hurricanes and thunder storm down pours ? is it ip47 water proof?
How much does this one cost ? I didn't see it on the link you had .
Couldn’t find the state regulations on your site…. Could you post a direct link please?
you always get 2 keys with your bike sometimes 3 keys.what i do is keep 1 key in the battrey the other one in the keyring, the keyring and alarm system goes in my pocket the spare key is in my battery no gingling right.
How about give measurements in inches too for the people that don’t know what a MM is? Great review!
I can barely go 22 miles range, full battery, on Race mode!
What’s in the motor? Plastic or metal gears?
do i need to register that in California?
I'm here because I'm looking for an electric option for bad weather scenarios. My electric scooter can be sketchy in wet conditions. This bike seems so loud and acceleration somewhat sluggish. Funny thing I noticed is this bikes headlight is the exact same lights I have on my car lol.
What kind of alarm did you demo?
