Amazing the trick to separating the connection of of the suspension arm with the washer and the bolt. I’ve bought some special tools but this is the best. Thanks 👏👏
Aesome video, many thanks, was in the process of doing this when I found your video, all the right details, info, torque specs, methods, just perfect, made it so much easier. Great links to your tools, now I have an awesome ball joint separator kit that works on an Audi! Thanks for taking the time to make this, cheers from Scotland.
Did this job recently on my S5 and, as you say, the amount of videos out there sharing bad advice about this job is shocking. Loved this video, keep them coming!
Great part 2 video Dave , great in depth video , so many haven't got a clue when doing these , out comes their biggest hammer , your way is the right way , most of the stuff I ordered from your shop came this week , cheers 👍👍👍👍
Really good, thank you. I have tire wear identical to the tire in your video. I have the Meyle HD full kit so hopefully it solves the tire wear problem. Thanks for the various general tips as well.
A big thanks for your video, Just finish my all my ball joints (both sides plus n/s steering knuckle) in the drive on the floor.. feels like I'm driving a new car..
I too, watched a couple videos before starting this job. I have a standard $25 ball joint separator and it's not removing the ball joint. I'll try adding the air hammer, but I like your threaded infinitely adjustable ball joint separator at 20:00. Might go to the tool store in the morning and see what they have. I see Audi-specific ball joint separators available online too. Anyway, just wanted to say I love your video. Great camera work, great advice and explanations. It's like I didn't really know the right way to do this job until I learned it in Irish.
Thanks for the video. I think that you forget to say : All bolts running gear components with bonded rubber bushes must always be tightened with the suspension in the unladen position (vehicle unladen). Therefore , before tightening the bolts, suspension components with bonded rubber bushes must be brought into position corresponding to the normal position of the unladen vehicle while driving.Otherwise , the bush would be subject to torsion loading and its service life would be shortened. Maybe I missed that part.
I'll be doing this on the weekend. The uppers have already been done. Do I absolutely need to separate the tie rod end in order to free the control arm bolt? Cheers
Hi Dave if you could help answer my question I will really appreciate. When I removed bolt for lower control arm which connects strut fork, fork immediately getting twisted under lots of pressure and I don't know why? Is it because tie rod is still connected, or is it something wrong with shock mount? Thank you for taking your time to answer my question. All the best
Dave how's it going bangor NI man here, aye no basically what i wanted to know mate is the cost to get this done by the likes of yourself or local garage's. Cheers mate. 👍🏻
Them Audi suspensions look quite complicated , l think when I did my zafira a few years ago it was 2 bolts and a taper for the ball joint, ….. job done , I’m sure when you have finished the punter will think he’s driving a new car again, quite impressed with the HD suspension kit . As always Dave , brilliant job, and video , cheers
DIY people beware of the bottom pinch bolt snapping. Spend 3 hours trying to save the thread until I decided to just drill the whole thing out and buy a longer bolt with a nut.
@davesterl when you load the car, do you load the suspension all the way up, I mean y used Jacks stands and I Jack the assembly up, to load the car and I compress it all the way up, is that ok?
Dave good video I have been looking for the 27mm diameter ball joint separator as you describe, but I can't seem to find one, what make is your ball joint separator in the video
Great vid but I’ve had a nightmare with this job. The heat shield was nothing like this one and had to basically destroy it to remove it. Then couldn’t tighten up the ball joint . I have all the right tools and enough diy experience but this time it’s beaten me 😭
Dont just buy any old ball joint separator tool like i did. Most of the ones i found in my local area were too small and had a 19mm opening. Go get the CTA ball joint separator (CTA-4013). I didnt have the right ball joint separator and had to wait 2 weeks to get it.
Dave. Question about a creaking noise when my B8.5 A4 avant shifts weight from front to rear. Been hearing it for 2 +years. Mech in Bangor says there’s nothing obvious, had them change drop links and no change. MOT fine last week. When getting tyres at Gilnahirk they heard, put on ramp and again said bushes looked fine. Happens when in gear and when in neutral. 2014 and 65k miles. Top mounts or engine mounts? Any other ideas or mechs with ways to isolate or listen to the vibrations?
@@davesterl yes. I asked if they had anything like this and they said no. Don’t think they’re interested in spending time finding the issue for me as I’ve raised it 3 times when servicing and solely to diagnose. Annoying sound but passes MOT without issue. Would you there anyone in Bangor or Greater Belfast with this tech to narrow it down and sort?
I've noticed a lot of manufacturers service data on cd is appearing on the likes of ebay just lately for very little money. Good to have when doing jobs correctly like this wouldn't you say.
Professional video on a rather complex suspension system that should only be worked on by real tradesmen (that’s you) and not by some CZcams pretend mechanics.
That's the way i speak and i'm not changing it for you or anyone else. There are moving pictures to show you what is going on and there are subtitles available if you still don't understand. Failing all of that then you could always go and watch something else
Lads putting out information for free here which can save a lot of people money including myself, I can understand him perfectly and many others so I'd keep ya comments to yourself

Best tutorial everywhere! You didn't miss anything! Thanks Mate!
Just commented on your part 1 video, both are one of the best tutorials I've ever watched on CZcams, absolutely fully comprehensive! Thank you!
best tutorial I've seen for that repair yet. Thank you!
Amazing the trick to separating the connection of of the suspension arm with the washer and the bolt. I’ve bought some special tools but this is the best. Thanks 👏👏
Nice job. Those 4 way reversible ratchet spanners are really handy. Good tip on the pinch bolt. Done properly with no damage. 😁👍
great vids you tell it like it, great to watch a bloke that lives in the real world please keep them coming
Absolute gem of a video. Much appreciated it. I’m going to tackle this job in a few weeks in my wife’s Audi. Subscribed to your channel btw.
Glad it helped

Yeah the videos i saw all have mistakes
cheers dave for both vids of top arms and bottom arms good when you can DIY very helpful
I like the pinch spreader technique. Clever and simple. Cheers Dave 👍
Yeah Ian, i watched a few utube videos on this and none use that method of opening the pinch yet it's in the manufacturer's info
It is literally genius!
Well done Dave another great job done I have to say that Audi suspension looks very complicated 👏👍
Great videos loads of tips as usual 👌 👍

Yeah Mike cheers for using the shop. Gets the wee girl a few quid over the long term as it doesn't really pay that much
@@davesterl every penny helps , have told a few of the guys I know about it too 👍👍

Hi Dave, great video.. can you tell me where the ball joint separator is from, can’t see the 27mm one in your hardware list.
Nice video, I have to undertake this on my S4
Very thorough again, Dave 👍
You could have a little foot baller on your hands 😉

Yeah, it seems you have missed where i show on video the car lowered onto tables. I think you need to watch the video again
What size ball joint separator are you using? I'm using what appears to be a 7/8 jaw opening, and it doesn't fit.
Thanks smart!

Hi what ball joint separator did you use.
Hi Dave , do you have a tool part number or manufacture for you ball joint splitter?
Can control arms cause brake judder at braking at high speeds?? I have all new Brembo discs and pads and I have a bit of judder
Nice! Where can I find that repair manual?

Hi Dave just wondering what’s the cable you use to keep things in place called ? Cheers 👍🏼
i use a piece of 4mm electrical wire as it is stiff
Where are you from dave fancy doing my car lol needs both down I am in Belfast
What an impossible task 😫 iv ended up leaving the battered ball joint with no nut on
I have tried everything but refuse to go to a garage
Also, does anyone know if a 24mm ball joint separator will do the job?

how did you tighten the rear arm with 70Nm torque? There is no place to put a dynamometer wrench
