Good of those guys to get together to share their stories with us.
Great video! My father-n-law is Duane in the video. My great uncle was part owner of the track and my mother worked in the consession stand ( white trailer talked about in the video). I've been on it several times, raced some friends on my dirtbike on it years ago and drive by it almost daily.
He was smiling ear to ear the whole video!
Is there any potential for another drag strip? Seriously inquiring!
great interview with the people who were there racing back in the day.
That concession stand had the best foil wrap cheeseburgers !!! I just know it !!
Good to come across this video. Many years ago Rod gave his collection of photos to copy that he had of local tracks. Good to see him again, and thanks again Rod.
What a very Cool video Parker I love vintage racing memorabilia, Be sure to tell the fellas I said thanks 🙏 so much..!
Great video .. I am 73 and lived those days at the old drag strips with my Dad and my brother.. this was a wonderful look back in time .. Thanks so much ..
Great video keep em coming
Loved going there as a kid. 10 mins from my grandma's. I also no fast Rodney and Duane. Great guys.
My grandfather was a pastor at a church nearby this track, and my mother remembered being able to hear the cars during Sunday Service.
🏆Awesome 🏆 🍀thank you😎✌️
That was a really neat video, and those old dragstrip sure bring back the memories, it puts a smile on my face every time❤️
Now THAT was an AWESOME show. New subscriber and looking for to more videos like this one. I’m an avid car collector/wrench and LOVE these types of videos.
Cool to see the old "bones" of what is left of so many peoples weekends from back in the day! With all the insurance restrictions and the advent of the moto " it was someone elses fault so I will sue" shut so many of these places down. However these small local tracks kept the kids off the street and really kept them out of serious trouble. We need more places like this to make a return for our kids ...... 😊 my opinion anyway?
That was great. Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks.
Awesome video !!! Thanks Parker.
Cool video. I love the history ones.
My Dad raced at Nu-Be on occasion. Normally raced at Sunset though. Sometimes Drag City as well. He had the Nu-Be class winner stickers on one side of his back window and the Sunset class winner stickers on the other. I remember that Captain Caveman car. It used to race at Sunset also once in a while. That white trailer was definitely the concession stand, I remember that for certain. I think my dad may have known Rodney way back when, I'm pretty certain of that.
Love it!! It was guys like these who got me into drag racing in the early '80's, and the guys I remember to this day!! It's nothing today like it was back then, and they're great memories!! Awesome video!!
I love these stories! Keep bringing these!
Unreal.I raced my 69 SS 396 Chevelle there in 69 & 70.
US 30 Dragstrip in Indiana would be another good one to cover
I used to go to US 30 ( by Chicago) in my younger days. That was a great track. I have watched videos on that one. It's almost totally gone now... great memories there.! Thanks for this video.!
Great video! Luv going back in time. I had relatives that raced midget cars way back (maybe the 1930's) on a track in Langhorne PA where Reedman Chevrolet was later built.
Almost looks like some locals are still making a pass down the center, great video
Very cool!!
So many abandoned race tracks all over. Many towns had drag strips as well as ovals. Back then before massive sponsors, racing was a great way to have some fun without spendung a fortune. Thats what done me in.
Hi , TY great video. I built a car to race at englishtown or island dragway but life got in the way...Sad that young guys not into it. I grew up with muscle cars , Had a few , YES as gas shortage happened , you could buys great cars that were not wrecked for any where from 600 to maybe 2599. I am talking SHELBYS CORVETTES CAMAROS etc....Keep up these great videos TY again
Some cool stuff, my home town and that track is a quick trip down the road
Thanks guys
you should come to the iola car show next summer. one of if not the biggest in the midwest...
Not sure when it is, but if i make it out that way ill let you know
@@backyardbarnfinds as of right now it will be july 11-13 in iola wisconsin. middle of nowhere but there are well over 1000 cars with a very large swap meet
That maverick looked pissed -off lol
Kool video....do you know who owns the land now. ...?.....Keep up the great work....God Bless and have a great day..
my grandpa use to race here
I found the old motor city dragway in New Baltimore mi on meldrum rd years ago pretty awesome place buried in the woods.
21:30 couldn't help but notice Rob (gentleman holding the pictures) looks like he just stopped working on his car in order to meet the guys at the ole track! LOL, the dirt and grease under a fellas fingernails always gives ya the real story? 😂 thanks Parker, its great to hear from the "local heros" of the day especially when they are such great guys! 👍
That would be cool to repair and open again .
Very cool stories.
I wonder if these guys ever venture out to keystone raceway park.?
Sure did. I ran there in the early to mid nineties. Qualified for the bracket finals at Maple Grove in 92,93 and 94. I raced at a lot of tracks till we got the boat in 2007.
I'm a 75 baby and I even remember watching captain caveman lol.
Should do a video on york dragway US 30
Bruce Larson may be willing to share stories about it he loved that track and he was local
Legends cut there teeth there. Joe Amato made a few passes in the Keystone Cuda
SUGGESTION: SAVE A DRAG STRIP.
Just down the road from me
Langhorne Speedway was another closed track in Pa. Tho, it was an oval.
Think it’s a Walmart now lol
@@backyardbarnfinds nope, its behind the strip mall, across the street from Lowes.
@@JusSkott I’ve only ever seen online maps.. will deff have to check out! It’s not to far! Do you know if the land is privately owned?
@@backyardbarnfinds not sure about land ownership. Depending on plant growth you can see the outline of the track, or at least use to before Rona season.
Langhorne also had a short drag strip in the infield. The track closed in 1971
Never raced there but I did at Sunset outside of Mercer, and P.I.T.A. in Lowellville/ Wattsburg in Erie County. Check them out. Got a lot of trophys from both, actually sunset(Alex) still owes me a trophy from 1971. Bet I'll never see that.
There's a track by me that had lot of big names but it's closed since the early 80s
