Awesome video Jase, thanks. For me, your review is a "real world" opinion which I can relate to (more so than the commercially driven channels that push through high volumes of products). I purchased the Evo after viewing your videos, love the bike. Cheers mate 👍

Great review! I was very close to getting the Epic Evo but ultimately went with the Trek Top Fuel instead. I too have a long torso and short legs and went with a large even though they have a ML for 5’ 10” riders like myself. I decided on the 2022 Trek because it had just a weee bit more trail capability with its slightly more progressive geometry and 120mm travel in the back. Also, stand over is great for my short legs. Main drawback is the weight at two Lbs over the Epic Evo. I am sure no one could go wrong with either of these bikes! Look forward to your upcoming vids!

Feel as though I have to push my seat right back pedal comfortably and am playing around with stem length. at the moment I have a 40mm. I am sure that you are going to love the Trek, especially on the descents.
@@jaselikesbikes yeah, the Trek has been great and fits pretty good after I switched to a 35mm stem-10mm shorter than stock. Fit is a tricky thing. I found that raising the seat a bit can sometimes help with fit and keep me from wanting to move my rear further back...or even lowering the front end stack height...keeps me from wanting to extend my arms all the way pushing me back. Good luck!
I just ordered a new Epic evo expert, raw carbon, size medium, partially due to your review and the associated comments. It will replace my 2006 Epic Comp. Very Excited. I’m thinking it will enjoy riding about it’s new home area, Helena Mt. US Thank you for your time and efforts to review,😊.

On the sticking of thefox transfer dropper, double check and make sure the seat post clamp is not over tightened. Also lube the transfer post with some kind of fork lube and the seal can add some stickiness to action of the post. Dirt and mud tend to build up around the seal as well.
Hey Mark thanks for the tips although yes I use suspension lube regularly on it and have checked the clamp. Had the same problem and my last 2 bikes with the fox transfer. seems like it is mostly ok after a few presses.

I’m currently trying to decide between this bike or a Yeti SB115.
Tough one, although if you race events I would go for the Epic Evo. The Yeti is a nice bike but I would probably say it is more of a trail bike. Ride a decent about of races go for the Evo, if you only race occasionally and do it for fun maybe the Yeti.

Yes the Ripley is more of a trail bike than the Epic Evo, slightly heavy but slightly slacker and probably more capable.

Yes definately up for the Whaka100. I have trained for it but have back / neck pain sometimes. Should be mainly type 2 fun though.

Great review ! I think I gonna go for that bike :) Question, M or L? I am 170 (5.7) but I kind of like when the handlebar is far enough so I have space to move and adapt depending on the riding area.
Thanks, great bike. I would probably say a medium. I have gone large at 172/3 and 5ft 8 because the have a relatively long body to my short legs. Have a look at your current bikes numbers and compare them and that will probably give you a good idea. Be away that if you do go for the large the stand over height / top tube is quite high. I am just able to put my feet on the ground.

Thanks! There is a link below the video for the Decals, contact them via facebook. In the video there is both Arch Hill Mountain Bike trails which is an inner city 3km or so of track and alos Woodhill MTB Park whuch is much larger.
Fantastic video! I am think about buying the comp version which is now going for 35% off, but still very expensive. Since I'm a one bike guy and do half kilometers on tarmac, do you reckon it's a one for everything bike?
Thanks and Hi. The Comp is a good bike , good spec and the same frame as I have. If you are not riding in a bunch definately ok for Tarmac. I do some of my training on Tarmac with the Evo.

Thanks! He must be a strong rider. In the manual it says 28-36 so that is a big yes.
Just bought the epic Evo. It is the base model. Deal was to good to turn down. I have rode it 3 times now. It's definitely better then my anthem 29 2. Climbing is better. Also way faster on the down hill. I like to do a marathon race once or twice a year. This bike will be great for that. Will upgrade with time and money.
Good decision, the frame is the saem. A mate did the same, it is probbaly best to upgrade those forks first if you are riding any rough stuff.
I see that I'm a little late to the party, but what year Revolver were you riding? I am currently on a 2017/ 9.1 in a Large. Was there a big difference in handling demeanor compared to the S-works? Worth the upgrade in $$ ?
I bought the Norco in Jan 2020.
The difference wasn’t a big one to the Epic and they were both good bit similar bikes. I would have thought there would be more of a difference in Geo etc from the 2017 model.
Maybe you can try the longer stem, to not have saddle so much in the back? I bet your ergonomics and pedal efficiency will be better. But if nothing hurts you now, maybe leave it as it is :D
Thanks, I have actually changed the stem to a shorter one as I needed to get more upright as I fractured my neck a few months ago. I have also tried moving the seat forward a couple of mm to change position slowly.
I have a 2011 epic carbon comp with carbon wheels and I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to get a newer model. I feel that the tech and geo has changed so much over time that I'm really missing out but new bikes are so expensive. I don't think I would be able to afford a comparable model to what I have now. Any thoughts?
Hi there and thanks for watching. A lot has changed since 2011. 1 x 12 gearing, Geo, dropper posts, better brakes etc etc. It does depend what you are going to use it for and how much you will ise it though. A bottom of the range epic will outshine the 2011 model by a long way. If using it for flat easy trails and occasionally then keep it. If you are going to use it a lot maybe look at a used model that is a year or 2 old or a base model 2022/23.
Have you compared this with the Trek Top Fuel?
I am afraid not but I have heard good things about the Top Fuel.
Very concise review! I am looking at this bike now and wanted to know if there is a lot of rear suspension bob when you sprint out of the saddle with the rear shock open?
Hmmm good question. I don’t sprint too much but there isn’t a huge amount of bob when i stand up on hills, it is just the forks that are the main absorber for me.
@@jaselikesbikes Well I just pulled the trigger and purchased an Epic EVO Pro with the full Fox Factory float suspension/dropper post and XO AXS(Not the new T-Type). We are having crazy bargain deals on these bikes here in the U.S. I purchased this basically $9K bike for $5800 out the door!
Congratulations, grat deal. It is a great bike. The only thing I don't like is the Fox dropper as it keeps sticking, like every Fox dropper I have had. I now have a wolftooth to go on the bike.@@AOL0321
@@jaselikesbikes Really, problems with the Kashima coated Fox dropper sticking? It's funny because I've heard horror stories about the Rock Shox Reverb, which I have on my 2020 Tallboy 4 and it's been basically rock solid for 4 years now, sans twice having to release the pressure buildup in it with their red T-Handle tool included. Everyone has different experiences with equipment I guess. I bought this model because I wanted Fox suspension fork. I have a 130mm Pike on my Tallboy now and it's okay, but sometimes I think it gets overworked and late into a ride loses it's plushness. I've heard great things about the Fox Factory forks though. Thanks again for the great review. I pickup my new EVO next Saturday!
@@jaselikesbikes Oh, one thing my friend who owns the bike shop where I got my Tallboy does, is just take some Fox fork oil and lightly coat it on a rag. Then run the rag with the oil over all of the fork stanchions/shock body and then wipe it off with a clean rag. It gives it a very light coating(don't use fork grease-attracts too much dust.) which works really well. I use it on my Pike and it helps relieve the stiction.
hi what is the difference between Specialized Evo, Specialized Evo Comp, Specilized Epic Comp, Specialized Epic Expert, Specialized Epic Evo Expert? which one you sit more upright and which bike is better if you use it mostly for going upwards / climbing?
All the Evos are the same frame just different spec, the same as the regular Epic they all have the same frame. Evo is more capable with 110mm/120mm travel and slacker geometry. The regular Epic is 100/100 and has the brain (automatic lockout). If you want to go fast without too much technical terrain then the Epic but if you want something to for. alittle more downhill or a bit more comfort or forgiveness then go for the Evo.
I currently have a sub 10kilo S-Works Epic & now I’m having an urge to trade mine for an Epic Evo. Of course I love my current bike but I’m a control freak and I like having remote lockout lever on my handlebar. Problem is that I’m a small guy (170cm 60kg small upper body) and often times I feel like the front is gonna lift off on technical climb with 67.5 degree head angle combined with my skinny body even with handlebar slammed all the way down. Would 66.5 degree make that much worse? Would it be silly to run 100mm fork with 110mm rear travel?
Very interesting, a sub 10kg Epic is awesome and I am sure that you could make the evo a similar weight if you wanted to. I am 75kg and 172cm and dont have a problem with the front wheel on steep climbs, I even changed the stem to a 40mm so I could pedal more upright due to my neck injury and makes it more fun downhill. All I can say is see if you can try before you buy (if you can). If you want a lockout and 100mm forks maybe stay with the Evo or just change the fork to a SID120mm Ultimate with lockout, that will make it a little slacker and more capable.
Im interested in your decision to get a large. I have short legs and long reach as well - interested as to what your centre of BB to top of saddle measurement is?
I measured it to 70cm. BB to the top of the saddle in line with the seat post.

The Pro model pricing seems a bit high to me; it's some $2500 more than the Expert. The big difference is the Fox suspension bits versus Rockshox and XTR versus GX/XO1. I purchased the Expert model and am a happy camper.
Hi Roger I had the Expert on order but a Pro came avialable so I snapped that up. I would still be waiting for the Expert. Yes the main difference is Shimano XTR v SRAM XO1 and Fox as well as the cockpit with a Next carbon bar and race Face stem. I think the Expert is better value for sure.

XTR is far more superior than x01/gx but in general specialized is a little over priced.

@@jaselikesbikes After two crashes the rails from my original Power seat were twisted then I bought the Power seat with carbon rails. I added to the wheels granite valve caps. That's all.

Maybe, but if you need that then perhaps the Epic is the bike. In the future I do see the epic with a 120mm fork though. Or maybe buy a frame and customize it.
Great bike! Could you tell me how tall are you? I am 5'10 and I fall between M and L. Tested both but still cant make a choice. I always used Medium bikes with older geometry, but this one in Medium feels very different. Could you advise please? Many thanks and greetings from England!
Greatings back to you. I am 5 8, normally have a medium bike but I have short legs and a relatively long body so have gone up. My last bike a Norco Revolver in a Medium was a 448mm Reach and the Epic Evo in Medium is 436mm and large 460mm. I measure the stack height of both bikes and the Large Evo was just 10mm or so more than the Revolver so that is what convinced me. I hope this helps.

Hey. I have the same height and recently got my L Epic Evo. It feels so comfortable with the stock setup, so there's no doubt about size. Maybe more race oriented setup with lower bars and stem will change my mind. But i don't think so. I've had 2018 Epic (not Evo) and sometimes i was thinking about M, but here's totally different situation
5'11" and ride a Large very comfortably. Imagine an inch would not push you into a Medium.

I am 186 and in betweem sizes. I also have short Legs and linger body. Do You recommend goimg for XL instead of L?
I think so. 185 and above is XL so if you are just in and even further in with a long body.

You are taller than me and I opted for the large. You are right on the cusp of a large according to specilaized. If you are in doubt look at your current set up as these new bike are longer.
hi, whats the weight of the bike in original and modified version?
Hi Gerald it is 11.4kg without pedals and cages but 11.7kg with them. No real weight savings in what I have changed so it will be around the same weight give or take a few grams.
@@jaselikesbikes is that a good weight for that price? did you ever try a hardtail and is much different?
@@Gerald-iz7mv. I wouldn't go anywhere near a hard tail for most of the trails that I ride plus I am older and need a bit of comfort. People have got these bikes down to 10kg but with lots of compromises on capability that I wasn't willing do. If you had 2 piston brakes, lighter tyres, thinner bars etc then you would get the weight down. It all depends on what you want the bike for and where you ride. A hard tail you could get down to 10kg is enough or buy a cheaper model for the same weight.
How does this bike compare to your old Norco?
Thanks for the question and I have been thinking about this a lot. The Norco is a great bike and I wouldn't be unhappy if I was still riding it. I have to say the Epic Evo is better but mainly becuase I have paid a lot for the upgrade. I do like the fact that the Evo is lighter, has slacker Geo, space for 2 water bottles and a threaded bottom bracket. I think they are both very capable and it is tough to tell if the Evo is quicker up or down at this stage.
@@jaselikesbikes thanks for the reply! I would love to get an Epic evo, buy they all are a bit out of my price range. Also seeing as I am starting work at a shop that sells Norco bikes, it would make more sense for me to go with that. Thanks for your opinion though :)
@@randommountainbiker9305 no worries, the Norco is a great bike and I have had great customer service from the guys in Canada, they even sent me some free hangers.
Interesting your 5 feet 8 and went for a large. I'm 5 10 and thinking large. Road bike I would normally be meduim
2 reasons. One was I have a relatively short legs and a longer body so I was thinking about a large and the other was one became available at a time that there were long backorders. I do like the size and only the standover height is a bit high for me.
