      If you havent seen a KISS concert in person, yhou've missed out - only Bruce and Prince compare for me - never saw Zepp or U2 - and not the Stones, for that matter - but these guys never let me down, although their shows always hit about 80 minutes, usually without an opening act. - still Journey went longer and jesus, what a bunch of drab music they played in concerts - all post-Escape, all filled with Pop Schmaltz.

    Some of you folks gotta realize, for one, sound reinforcement was very different in the 70's and early 80's , no where near the quality people take for granted today. Back then it was very rare to see your heroes actually moving on tv. Besides an appearance on Don Kirschner and the Phanton movie I had only seen kiss on their album sleeves or a magazine ..till I saw this tour. So it's probly hard to imagined but back then it was so thrilling to see and hear them live, so raw,so organic, your just trying to soak everything in and hope it never ends. People didn't nick pick on all this minutia, you where just happy you where there. Plus these dudes worked there asses off for yrs traversing the globe putting in work nite after nite, and when your playing 5 nites a week, at least 2 of those shows are going to be off nites,it's just how it goes when you tour. And ya things may have started going downhill, maybe relationships where fractured, but again that's how it goes. Most bands are lucky to get 6-10 yrs , every show can't be a banger, every relationship can't stay in a perpetual honey moon . These four made magic together, I'm so glad I caught them during their first run, it was truly a thrill of a lifetime.

      Great post, amigo! Yes, other than Don Kirschner's tv show and The Midnight Special, you HAD to go see these great bands live to be sure they were real moving, breathing people. Ha ha.

      Also, the quality of this audio in particular isn´t great, like the image isn´t as well. We have abundant good quality video and sound evidence that KISS kicked ass with a consistent high quality delivery. Touring bands really worked hard AF, and the travelling was much less comfortable that it is nowadays.

    Watch this concert carefully. Paul said it's this era where Peter & Ace were playing really bad not interested in being in the band. What's seen here does not support what was said. Ace doing 2000 Man is just awesome. Ace's playing through the whole concert is on point. The whole set list is so different to the almost frozen setlist of the latter year Kiss

      And Paul and Gene saying that Ace and Peter were completely incapable of playing their instruments by this point which is complete BS I saw them on this tour I was 10 years old and saw them like five times after this and this was the best day ever played in my opinion. I think there were other people that wanted Ace and Peter out so Paul and then we just say whatever they were told to say. Is clear by the video that they're coherent and playing quite well in fact.

    • @badmonkey2222
      @badmonkey2222 Před 8 měsíci +3

      @@maria-lena5919 absolutely i saw them on the Dynasty tour and thought that Ace & Peter both were playing better than ever. It was all about money and control, Paul and Gene wanted all the control and when Ace and Peter started complaining that they weren't being paid the same as they were they were afraid of being exposed so they defamed them both to make them look bad so if they said anything they can say oh they're just a couple of druggies. I mean don't get me wrong they were both partying seriously way too hard Peter has admitted he had a crippling cocaine habit Ace also and he drank A LOT and I'm sure it was brutal trying to maintain on the road but there's plenty of evidence proving that they were still more than capable of performing. I've been a musician over 30 years myself and partied hard back in the day and I can tell you right now the road will beat you down and if you're not eating right and doing a bunch of drugs and drinking You're going to be seriously hurting trust me I've been there. Either way Gene and Paul are both liars and if they weren't the way they were I'm sure they could have worked things out.

      Like his solos - but they are all derivative of each other, scratchy finger-picking through one register about 3 or 8 frets up the bar...alternating quite predictably. Even by 70s standards, this is pretty routine.- like bad blues rip-offs.

    • @jasonbryant.bassguitarplay3641
      @jasonbryant.bassguitarplay3641 Před rokem +18

      I've kaZillion live performances (and I myself play bass and can run thru quite a few KISS songs) and alot of times GENE plays WTH Gene feels like playing. The proof is in the audio. Unless (lol) it's not him playing and these are 70s makeup videos LIVE.
      KISS UNPLUGGED is a good audio show. Plus you can tell they are actually playing and singing. ( which I never jumped on the "performing to playback" bandwagon that has surfaced the last year or two.)
      Sadly tons of musicians are guilty of it these days. Ace and ACE's band doesn't do it. I've watched too many of his performances and a pretty good FB friend with Aces drummer Matt. Listen to the beginning of Dr Love here. 3rd song. Idk what's going on there but it's horrible for a band like KISS at that time to have live foulups like that. I think they all hated each other equally at this point.

      And WHO is fucking up the chords in the beginning of "Calling Dr. Love"? It's NOT Ace!
      NOT the first time HE does THAT during concerts! And he's sober & lucid! GO FIGURE!
      And, Peter played GREAT during many shows on the 1979 Dynasty Tour! He just LOST
      the interest in playing w/ KISS. It's exaggerated that he couldn't play anymore in 1979.

    I agree with the person below that stated that Paul has accused Peter and Ace of playing terribly and it's clearly not evident in this concert footage as Peter and Ace are on fire, playing with plenty of enthusiasm and tightly, and on time. Paul is full of it, they sound great during this concert and just as equally at the concert I saw them at 79. This is a great show. The tour was a complete failure ronnie. Some of the first night crowds were fine but the biggest problem Kiss had was thinking it was going to be bigger than Love Gun Tour and require multiple shows in each town. @@ronniepatterson2827 I probably should clarify my comment by saying failure by their own standards. Each previous tour had been bigger than the one before it and they were expecting Dynasty to do the same but in terms of ticket sales and their live performances, it was a big leap backwards. I'm an Aussie and you're right, the 1980 tour was huge here and our media treated them like the biggest thing since the Beatles, but yes, it all went downhill fast after that. They probably had to wait for the Reunion Tour to see the same level of media interest and ticket sales they'd enjoyed here in '80.
