That was definitely just a garter snake. the odds of seeing a cobra in the pacific northwest are astronomically low. One would have to escape captivity and make it to your yard. That being said, it very well might snipe a few fish from your ponds. They'll eat what fits in their mouth (like fish)

A little methylene blue in your egg incubation container keeps them more viable until hatch... it also helps you spot the bad ones. Just a tip. I noticed I never see "blue water" in your breeding process. Might be a game changer for you.

The Fluval canisters prime WAY better and easier when they're empty. Whenever I open mine for anything, I always pour out all the water and reprime from empty. Works much better and more reliably.

For rainbow shiners, the container I use is a short black plastic food prep container filled completely with rocks. I gave up on trying to do a clear plastic viewing container, it was just not worth the effort since muck somehow lands inside no mater what making it hard to see what is in it. I do it in a pretty bare 20 long. I also shoot a small powerhead across the top of the container with the container right up against the glass where the powerhead is stuck. When I see the males really colored up and hanging out near the container, I come back in a couple of hours and pull the eggs.

For an aquarium lid that is cheap, easy to make and will keep your jumpers from committing suicide go to your local Home Depot type store. You want the material to build a screen like for a window. Buy the frame, something to cut it with like a small hand saw, corner kit for a screen window, spline and a spline tool. Then on Amazon buy the aquarium netting for an aquarium lid, and if you want this to sit inside your tank get the plastic shelf type aquarium lid holders that hang on the edge of your aquarium. Be sure you get the size to fit the width of your glass which is probably 6 or 8mm. Measure the inside of the tank and cut the frame pieces and put them together with the corner kit. Cut your net a few inches bigger than the frame and put it in the frame with the spline and spline tool. Trim the excess net and you have a nice light lid that will save your fish. If you want it to sit in top just make it about an inch bigger than your tank. I made one for my guppy tank and it sits inside and I have had no more suicides. Good luck, and BTW we don’t have cobras in the wild in the US 🐍 😂 . That was a grass snake or rat snake.

I have a solid bit of advice about how to deal with your slithery fish Thief and be assured that's what he was there for.
It looks like you have a male garter snake. Completely harmless, typically are diurnal, quite social live in colonies, usually near some kind of body of water whether it be man-made or otherwise including drainage stitches, eat lots of amphibians and invertebrates as well as fish which is probably one of their favorite foods especially little shiners just like the kind of stuff you're keeping on your patio, don't tend to be defensive so don't worry about getting bit however if you have a bee allergy or anything like that be careful because if you were to get bit garter snakes are mildly rear Fang venomous and it's very rare that someone gets envenomated buy them but it's typically kind of like a bee sting reaction. Predator Nets are usually pretty easy for them to defeat and commercial snake repellents do not work on anything despite their claims. I'm not entirely sure which specific species of garter snake you have but I will do here shortly however I doubt it will make a big difference as to suggestions period of course the biggest suggestions with snakes is to remove their food source but that's a catch-22 in this case. So okay what does work?
Frankly go start pissing all over your yard especially the perimeter and around the patio area is where you keep your fish. Do this consistently and particularly anybody who eats meat and anybody who comes to your house because it shows a population. Straight up Predator urine. Of course if it rains you have to double down on this. After a while you can get a little bit less consistent and they will still stay away however if you quit completely they will be back within weeks if not days especially with a nice little Buffet you have set up for them. I am dead serious about this advice. If you poke around online you will find it in obscure places. From my personal experience with my boyfriend on our Campground out in the middle of nowhere asking guest to do this as well as us doing it definitely deterred all species of snakes from the areas we were doing it in. We were most concerned about the venomous snake species we had on the property because the city folks that came to Camp knew nothing about anything except that anything small and furry to them was a rat. We had a good population of Timber Rattlers snakes, copperheads, cottonmouths and pygmy rattlesnakes. The only one that we would see out in the open frequently where timber rattlesnakes because they're pretty docile and not defensive. They would often ignore human walking by not even rattling conversely I never saw one even mock strike at anybody. The thing is if you're not a threat and you're not food they don't care. The Venom is meant for hunting not for hurting or scaring off a human that would likely kill them in the process. It takes a lot of metabolic activity to produce that Venom to catch their prey so why wasted on scaring off something that would probably waste them in the attempt. Garter snakes as I said are only mildly rear Fang venomous and the Venom is meant for amphibians and fish Etc not mammals even though they will hunt small rodents on occasion however that is the exception not the rule. Besides you are about 100 times bigger than any prey that they normally run across. Garter snakes actually make quite good pets but in order for them to really Thrive you do need to keep a group of them. Incidentally they are also live barers.
I wish I could tell you that your Raptor scaresnake what do the trick... before I became a Zoological educator I had to get over a deep phobia of snakes that caused me to have recurring nightmares throughout my childhood. Well I got over it after some seriously hard work and the motivation that if I didn't I'd get fired lol.
Anyway go start peeing in your yard right now.

If you want a floating plant that is easier to work with because it is bigger than salvinia, try dwarf water lettuce. It is a great water filter that will help you with your water parameters, and it will put down long roots your fish will love.
