A fan theory is that the rangers were able to make the megazord by accident because of the zeo crystal. Alpha mentioned the zords formed and took the forms of the strongest species on the planet at the time. People took this to mean the most dominant and so, when all 5 are together with the power of the zeo crystal, the made a humanoid. The megazord in this universe wasn't mentioned prior because it was never made until that moment. Kinda interesting but wish the movie actually explained something

The actors all hated the suits from the original movie, being way bulkier and more cumbersome than the TV suits but I always thought the movie suits looked pretty good for the brief time we saw the Rangers in them. Certainly looked more convincing than the fabric ones used in the show while still looking like those same designs. These ones look more like something out of a hollywood Kamen Rider than Power Rangers imo.
to be fair the only thing that caught me off guard was the fact that in this reboot rita was the green ranger before tommy and even to this this day i find it an interesting change in a character origin and find it more impressive that it was done to the original power rangers main bad guy

I who was born in 1990, grew up with Power Rangers, watched every single season, enjoyed this movie. Is it perfect? No. But it brought new things that I really enjoyed.

Two things. 1 the original rangers picked their colors, Walter picked black and the original yellow ranger was Latina before she left and Thuy came in as her replacement taking the only available color. 2. Sadly as fun as it would be, the movie doesn’t take place in Maine because we don’t have Krispy Creams.

the design of Goldar was easily the biggest complaint from the fandom, i was no exception to that, plus it took too long for them to morph. Another thing i hated, had a flaw with, was that part of the movie merchandise, movie toyline, they made movie morpher toys, yet they didn't use the morphers at all during the movie.
If Japan dubbed this it will be titled as "ZyuRanger Zwei". The marketing was a trainwreck. The only good ones were the action figures, and the morpher. The MegaZord looks like an updated Knightron from Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills.
To add to your body count, there's the investigator who first sees Rita in the fish freezer, there's the people in the jewelry store, and the store worker, AND the cop who showed up to respond to the silent alarm and blasted Rita with a shotgun to no avail.
I hated how dark the film looked. I literally had to increase my screen's brightness because I couldn't see shit whenever Decker cut to the film clips! I have this about modern films so much!
I went to high school when the series was on. I got done with it after the big “who is the green ranger person” drama passed. But my school was called Monona Grove so always felt a tiny connection with that name ☺️
I always thought zordon should've been the original white ranger. When Tommy lost his green ranger powers to a candle, zordon made him the white ranger using his own power.

If I remember right, it was the writers/director’s means of making her feel a little more predatory plus the whole idea of teens and coming into their sexuality being confusing and scary and all that Freudian jazz.
I had heard about a dark & gritty Power Rangers fan film. I'm not sure, but I think that it is still available to be seen here on CZcams. You two should do a review of that one if you can find it. From what I understand, the action and darker tone are far more closer to Decker's tastes than any of the official Power Rangers movies. It should be a fairly short review too, as I understand that the movie itself is only about 30 minutes long or so.
Maybe it's because these kids aren't perfect. The original series kinda made the original Rangers seem perfect. Plus here they felt a bit more inclusive. What I appreciate the most is that they included somebody on the spectrum, and it was my favorite of the original Rangers.
That's one thing i have to give this movie: The Zords look freaking amazing! I wasn't so keen on the suits, but Rita being more hands on and the Zords actually made me like this movie quite a lot more than i thought i would... I went into it thinking i would hate every second of it, as i had grown up with the original MMPR, thinking it was the most amazing thing in the world! I was honestly positivly surprised by the full package, and i would genuenly love to see a sequal featuring Tommy and maybe even Lord Z! Making a sequal follow the overall plot of Green with Evil would be something i would enjoy to it's fullest extend especially...

I could just never get into the Power Rangers. But of course I was in high school when they started getting popular. So that's probably the reason. Although I did like Voltron and GeForce when I was growing up.
Funny enough those shows in Japan were knock offs of Power Rangers (Super Sentai) in Japan. Even Voltron's japanese name of GoLion is a rip off the first Sentai season's title, Himitsu Sentai Goranger.
Rangers having powers while unmorphed wasn’t new to the series by that point. In another Saban series that came out during the time mmprs was using most of the original cast, those kids had powers outside their suits as well

We barely had time to process this" the Billy dying from beinig under water for a LITERAL minute while he didn't die earlier being underwater much longer ruined this I'm glad I watched it with someone that didn't mind my sarcastic commentary. We were pretty much doing what Decker and Creepy were doing, but in real time lol

Why was rita so much more powerful and had a staff(not sure its purpose) if she was the green ranger and totally OP over the other ranger, any explanation?
Rita's desire for gold could be because its the most malleable (flexible) conductive metal on earth. It can be bent with body heat. So maybe her species is electric based and she lost her powers as she was shorted out in the water. As she was pulled out she was probably able to get some charge to live again but needs gold in her to restore to full power.
I never did end up seeing this, despite being huge MMPR fan, but I'm sad that it wasnt done well enough to warrant a sequel to do the whole Green Ranger arc
I hated the design of the zords in this movie. The "pterodactyle" is just a generic futuristic jet and the "mastodon" looks like the termites from the Woody Allen "Ants" movie. The concept looked so much better...
So, wait... Rita, in this version, was a lost Ranger? I can't tell if that's awesome or really god damn stupid. Goldar, there, being made of what looks to be liquid gold... should've been extremely easy to just plow right through and scatter to the winds. Bam, done. Why? Why would Zordon just give up his chance to be reborn when the grid comes back online? No, I don't know his actual character in the movie, the sequence just seems contrived, with no explanation or build up to 'Okay, okay, you wrangled it out of me, I'll revive your friend who at worst should be a bit wet... hardly even suffocated. Hell, the portal in the lake takes longer to get to'...?

I loved the 2007 movie. Billy was portrayed better in the movie than in the original MMPR show, imo. I'm sad the film didn't do well enough in the box office though.

The big reason how they got Bryan Cranston was because he was involved in the original series as a Voice Actor for a few monsters. I like a few of the nods to the franchise. I never got the Stephen King refrences. It was better in my mind than a few other Movies but meh. And it’s definitely owned by Hasbro which is unusual considering that Toei’s relationship with Bandai. However since Saban Screwed the pooch it’s a moot point. Another point I don’t like, Inviting Jason David Frank for a cameo. A point in its favor Amy Jo Johnson showing up. Not a bad idea
I actually liked this movie, I loved that they actually made us care about the rangers by expanding them, they trailer made the movie seem edgy asf but tbh it’s really not, it has some comedic and funny moments especially from billy. Rita was well a cheesy villain but look at the source material. I wish they would do a sequel to this but looks like they’re getting rebooted again

1995 suits are waaaaay, way way better than the trash they did here.

Creepy just went into the Juggernaut Drive.
Maybe they should have focused on one or two Rangers backstory, and the sequels focus on another two.

The original series kinda made the original Rangers seem perfect.
Plus here they felt a bit more inclusive. What I appreciate the most is that they included somebody on the spectrum, and it was my favorite of the original Rangers.
That's one thing i have to give this movie: The Zords look freaking amazing!
I wasn't so keen on the suits, but Rita being more hands on and the Zords actually made me like this movie quite a lot more than i thought i would... I went into it thinking i would hate every second of it, as i had grown up with the original MMPR, thinking it was the most amazing thing in the world! I was honestly positivly surprised by the full package, and i would genuenly love to see a sequal featuring Tommy and maybe even Lord Z!
Making a sequal follow the overall plot of Green with Evil would be something i would enjoy to it's fullest extend especially...
Okay, gonna have to do this (mind you I started on USA Networks Dynaman and was horribly disappointed that when Power Rangers first aired, wasn't the series gong to air). Egg, orange juice, bacon, salad, blueberry muffin!
I could just never get into the Power Rangers. But of course I was in high school when they started getting popular. So that's probably the reason. Although I did like Voltron and GeForce when I was growing up.

Funny enough those shows in Japan were knock offs of Power Rangers (Super Sentai) in Japan. Even Voltron's japanese name of GoLion is a rip off the first Sentai season's title, Himitsu Sentai Goranger.

Rangers having powers while unmorphed wasn’t new to the series by that point.
In another Saban series that came out during the time mmprs was using most of the original cast, those kids had powers outside their suits as well

The crystal wasn't at the Krispy Kreme, Zordon just wanted them to protect it so when he was revived, he could enjoy their donuts before the major fight.

I'm with Creepy on the Original Song being used to only Blue Ball us all LOL ... I haven't been hyped for a Power Rangers moment like that since the Original TV show, only to have my wings cut off and land in a pile of burning CGI pixels ... lol but yea CGI looked better, just wish they used the 100 Mill in other places ... like writing a better character development for the characters ..
Did you notice that's not the original theme? Listen to the og from the show and then this one, they sound vastly different. It's closer to the remix from the old movie.
Why was rita so much more powerful and had a staff(not sure its purpose) if she was the green ranger and totally OP over the other ranger, any explanation?
Rita's desire for gold could be because its the most malleable (flexible) conductive metal on earth. It can be bent with body heat. So maybe her species is electric based and she lost her powers as she was shorted out in the water. As she was pulled out she was probably able to get some charge to live again but needs gold in her to restore to full power.

I just realized during this review the actor that played Jason is the guy that played Billy in stranger things...
Does it have to be “ morphine time “ had me laughing so hard I shit a little bit.
I never did end up seeing this, despite being huge MMPR fan, but I'm sad that it wasnt done well enough to warrant a sequel to do the whole Green Ranger arc
I have to admit I liked it, it's not perfect by any means but I enjoyed it having grown up with the tv series this was a breath of fresh air for me.
I mean... The megazord literally slaped Rita with enough strenght to trow her into space... How?

I hated the design of the zords in this movie. The "pterodactyle" is just a generic futuristic jet and the "mastodon" looks like the termites from the Woody Allen "Ants" movie. The concept looked so much better...
I liked the sabertooth tiger. OG one had legs that were stupid and imo was only bad zord. here i feel it and t rex are only good ones

Why? Why would Zordon just give up his chance to be reborn when the grid comes back online? No, I don't know his actual character in the movie, the sequence just seems contrived, with no explanation or build up to 'Okay, okay, you wrangled it out of me, I'll revive your friend who at worst should be a bit wet... hardly even suffocated. Hell, the portal in the lake takes longer to get to'...?
It was stayed on the movie commentary that the zap from Rita's staff killed him not drowning.

I have this a 3/5. It's quite ok but only ok. I had issues with the pacing and uneven tone and bad writing. Other words, it's a mess.

I loved the 2007 movie. Billy was portrayed better in the movie than in the original MMPR show, imo.

The big reason how they got Bryan Cranston was because he was involved in the original series as a Voice Actor for a few monsters.
I like a few of the nods to the franchise.
I never got the Stephen King refrences.
It was better in my mind than a few other Movies but meh.
And it’s definitely owned by Hasbro which is unusual considering that Toei’s relationship with Bandai.
However since Saban Screwed the pooch it’s a moot point.
Another point I don’t like, Inviting Jason David Frank for a cameo.

I actually liked this movie, I loved that they actually made us care about the rangers by expanding them, they trailer made the movie seem edgy asf but tbh it’s really not, it has some comedic and funny moments especially from billy. Rita was well a cheesy villain but look at the source material. I wish they would do a sequel to this but looks like they’re getting rebooted again
