Cannot believe it’s been 20 yrs. I can remember this night so well! And JB sporting his New Years haircut! ❤️WP❤️
The watchtower>Arleen segue is great. Always loved this show. It was my first NYE and I snuck onto the floor solo at 20 years old and it was transformative

Mikey’s sound is what hooked me in the first place 🥰 Thank you for the LIVEs from the vault.

lol yeah its bad
A special time
Present. Who are the 8 idiots that gave this a thumbs down?
started partying with Lopez the moment I picked him up at the airport. and didn't stop until the 2nd. we continued this tradition until my son was born i believe. fortunately some evidence has been lost due to aging memories. thank god cameras on phones weren't widely used back then .
Funny Lopez story...I lived with Sam Holt at this time and Lopez often stayed at our house in Atlanta when not on tour. My girlfriend and I were out of town one weekend and Lolo stayed there. Got home with my girlfriend and there were a pair of size 14 panties in my bed which created huge drama with girlfriend thinking I cheated on her before the weekend. Alas, Lopez hooked up in my bed and chick obviously left her panties 😂
I truly believe that this is right around the time the band found out Michael was sick...New Years 01 from the moment JB came out clean cut i just thought something was off I had the highest expectations for this for the run..
There was just something off about all of it :(
What leads you to that belief ?
Im pretty sure they didn’t know quite yet what was going on at NYE 01 & there’s a particular reason why I’m pretty sure. It’s been a LONG time so I don’t remember exactly the timeline of stuff but I want to say that the 1st mentions I ever heard about Mikey being REALLY SICK started in late Jan/early Feb 02. It started as a trickle & I didn’t believe it was anything at first. I think most people dismissed it at first but by mid-late Feb that trickle was a flood of rumors coming from everywhere. For the 1st few weeks all I heard was Mikey was sick & it was probably terminal but it was a completely non specific illness. I vividly remember the 1st time I heard the word pancreas mentioned in relation to Houser in any context & it stands out to me 1) it was the 1st specificity I’d heard at all 2) what I heard ended up being more or less right. This guy I know that I wasn’t really close friends with or anything but he was definitely more than just an acquaintance told me that he’d been backstage a bunch over New Years (and he would have been, that wasn’t remotely an outlandish claim coming from him) & that the whole run Mikey was visibly not himself & not feeling well & people were asking him if was ok & what was wrong & he heard Mikey tell several people then that he’d been having some abdominal issues for a month or so & had recently been to a dr & was told that he had pancreatitis & had just started medication for it but it hadn’t gotten better yet. Everything about that story made perfect sense to me, especially in hindsight once we all knew it was true. Which I still held out hope it wasn’t something terminal all the way up to the moment they walked out on stage to start the mini tour in Raleigh 4-19-21. It was immediately obvious to everyone in that amphitheater that the worst was true & that run instantly became something else for me & everyone else.
Hope that helps.
