The Magnus Archives Animatic - The Coming Storm

- I've wanted to do something with this scene since I first heard it an this took me like a month to finish.
This is technically my first animatic, and though I'm really really happy with how it turned out I've certainly learned a few things for next time. There are a few things I'd go back and change if I was striving for perfection, but this was more an exercise and an effort to get back into a creative groove.

The fact that this is the moment that traumatized Jon the most?? But despite that they still became good friends? And Jon would willingly sacrifice his ribs and jump into the coffin for her?? AAAAA

Personally I always interpretted him going into the coffin to save her as being more for Basira then Daisy. Their eventual friendship was because he realised she'd been at the whims of the Hunt, and with him being neck deep in avatar bullshit he could understand
I think it was also that Jon wanted to prove to the others, especially Basira, that he wasn't as much of a monster they were making him to be.

Remember, Mike’s was the first death Jon EVER witnessed in person…he saw the Leitner aftermath, but this has got to be SO much worse.
Season 3 Jon was so clueless. Like he had absolutely no clue what was going on. He didn't even realize that he was using his weird eye powers half the time.
I love how people assume Jon knows about anything that is going on when he is, in fact, really fucking lost

The way he's looking back and forth, wracking his brain, trying to See, when he's saying "I th- I th- I think it was Elias", that part is gold.
When she half-rolls her eyes in response is just as gold.

I noticed a lot of people seem to think Jon is physically weak just because he could only get one audibly noticeable hit on an enraged servant of the Hunt but are we also going to ignore the fact that despite constantly being described with diminutives he was able to hold his own against Tim (who is confirmed to be "sporty") for a good few minutes WHILE COMPLETELY DISORIENTED.
Dang I entirely forgot about that with Tim when did that happen?

Jon is described as "physically unfit, as other characters refer to him as scrawny and he tires easily from physical tasks that others perform with little exertion." He probably got an adrenaline rush when being attack so that's probably why he was able to fight back. And it probably caught Tim off guard. He still quite weak but can still get some hits in when it counts not enough to win tho. (I'm not trying to argue with sorry if you read it that way)
to be fair, Tim was also under the influence from the unknowing
I like the idea of him being scrawny because it adds to his S1 anger and desperation to be taken seriously- he’s used to being looked down on.
Either Jon is so small or Daisy is very tall.

Jon trying to compell Daisy to talk, not really knowing he has that ability just attempting to buy himself time is so good, and your embellishment with the eyes was great!
God I was so disappointed when Mike died he was such a cool character that was killed so so anticlimactically
I just love how Daisy towers over both of them. I always picture her like one of those 6'5" amazon types
I love this so much. And I adore the way Daisy's eyes changed because of the Hunt's influence.

This is so good, your style is so clean! I’ve always loved this scene, it’s the first time we hear Jon actually sound scared. It just showcases how great a voice actor Jonny is

Oh to know that this is the moment he was most scared in is kinda sad, he also considered daisy a friend after that, thats how alone he was, how alone they were. Oh well, :')

I'm new to tma and this episode absolutely wrecked me so the fact that you captured this so dramatically OH MY GOSH 👏👏👏 Jon crying out "I'm sorry" always breaks, me so now you just gound all the rest of the pieces into dust.
I love Jon's expressions! You really captured his fear and panic and it great to watch!

Holy shit I forgot how nerve-racking this scene was, you captured it so well!!! And I love the subtle Hunt influence in Daisy's eyes when she pressed the knife deeper!
I just found this! Your animation is amazing! It's such a key moment and my God Injust wanted to hug Jon, he sounds so utterly terrified and rightly so. You captured the expressions and body language beautifully, the threat of Daisy, the fear in Jon and the calm of Basira. The extra detail with the eyes of Jon compelling and Daisy's eyebrows of her 'yeah, he's on my list too' so well done! Thank you so much for sharing!

Okay but I just caught that as soon as Daisy was handed the cassette, all she wanted to do was bring the tapes to him. And, well, S5 end really makes it clear why that is in a way I never caught before.
I especially love the part with the eyes. That was really cool.
The near silent "okay" from Jon after the gunshot killed Mike and he was told to hand over his bag- aughhh every time I relisten i find more and more cool things hidden in TMA !!!!!! God that little "okay" is just so good!!!!!!!! Voice acting ✨

This was so beautifully made! My favorite part is the detail you put in where Daisy roughly pulls Jon to his feet! All the slight changes in position and expression!

Ahh!!!! This is so good! I love your character designs, and everything seems so fluid. I love the thing you did with the tape recorder inside the bag. Also the scene is even more creepy when I can see what Daisy is doing to Jon, the knife against his throat and the blood. It’s terrifying.
I just listened to this episode for the first time tonight and couldn't get this scene out of my head. Jon sounds so scared. It wouldn't leave me alone.

im not scared of being watched so its generally hard for me to understand how the victims are so hurt by the questioning power, but daisy is a bit of an exception, scared of vulnerability and has alot of secrets, shes like the perfect person to have a negative reaction to it
