- This is the only documentary in the world that gives you an insight into Hermann Göring's underground bunker system on the Obersalzberg.

This tour, which took place in 1999, was the first and last exploration of this facility, which was made inaccessible in 2001 during the extensive remodeling of the Obersalzberg.
On April 23, 1945, Goering, together with his family and staff, was arrested by the commandant of the Obersalzberg Dr. Bernhard Frank in his country house and survived the subsequent bombing raid on April 25, 1945, in this bunker.

It should of never been destroyed, the level of workmanship as I have said before was stunning, the plaster on the walls looked superb, it should have been dedicated to the memory of the folk who built it all IMO., wonderful skilled people.. Great vid. UK

Agree as well, these are amazing constructions and most probably many many men died in the making of these bunkers. I don't understand why the Eagles Nest and the concentration camps are places you can visit and yet the bunkers are blocked up. Surely they would be a very interesting place to see and would bring economy and an appreciation of the history to the area. Also they could one day be useful again as air raid bunkers or storage facilities.
Thanks for this, Goring has always fascinated me. He was incredibly smart, almost genius level, amazing pilot known for his bravery in WW1, always known for being jolly and quick to joke about his weight all while second in charge to a crazy Nazi regime. Very conflicting
You should read his letter to Churchill written the night he killed himself, the night before he was to hang in the gallows. It's very interesting if you haven't already.
His intellect is undeniable. More or less predicts the cold war.
@@balloonhead61 I’ll check that out, he also completely embarrassed US prosecutor Robert H Jackson when he testified at Nuremberg. David Fyfe had to rescue Jackson the next day. It followed Jackson for the rest of his life on how Goring made a fool of him.

It seems sad that the authorities are going to. do this . Cause for.Historical & educational reasons it would have been better to keep Goriig residents as it was before demolition.

Once again, another fascinating video. Thank you. In my visits to the Obersalzburg in the early '80s, I remember the site of Goering's home, but in my mind I see only grass with occasional rubble and holes into the ground where some had settled. The video ends with what I don't recall, substantial ruins being removed. Perhaps I am confusing two locations, unless what we see at the end had been covered up, only to be removed in preparation for the hotel. At any rate, thanks for the history.

Amazing! I knew the Goering bunkers existed but I did not know there was any way to enter them. I remember more or less walking the outline of the Landhaus Goering foundations. One could also make out the location of the swimming pool. Guess that is all gone due to the IC hotel.
This is absolutely amazing, and these things should never ever be destroyed, this is history and must always be preserved. Shameful!

Great video with alot of interesting facts in the narration , Hermann was a fascinating character , born in to aristocracy with a very high iq , decorated ww1 ace pilot , uncompromising politician who was head of the luftwaffe , even his trial at Nuremburg & mysterious suicide I find interesting and though I'm going on a bit I haven't even begun to scratch the surface

Wonderful engineering. Was it lighted when it was in use? Sad these places were vandalized or bombed. Such history. Only recently have I come to terms with the fact that along with being descended from who people came from England in the 1600’s, my most recent (1830’s) family that came to America was the German part of my family on my mother’s side. Otto, which became Hutto when they came to South Carolina and had a plantation.

Yeah, I have seen the Asian/European people that come and stay at that Hotel where Goerings house stood, but they are disinterested in where they are, what happened there. or anything else about the place.
I have spent years studying this area and even though I have only been there once, I will be back to explore every possible remnant of WWII. This is not pretty history, but it IS history. History is not served by destroying it.
Agreed. We are also now seeing the rewriting of history. It's being done slowly but surely. What happened to "those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it"? Well, by the time the revisionists get done rewriting history, future generations will have no idea what they are not supposed to repeat. Sad, so very sad.

Germans were on a different level even by today’s standards, can only imagine how bad other governments wanted their technology.

Interesting as this film is, the history of Germany in WW2 could take centuries to complete, I was stationed there in the early 80's and places was stationed at makes this old news, I love the underworld ,and what they created.
I used hear stories of all the different tunnels, was stationed at few places that had tunnels, one unit was a missle site and we had 2 buildings on top, rest of place was under ground,3 levels, the other levels were flooded cause of the water table.
I also heard rumors of tunnels you could drive a tank thru, not sure about that, also was at a location that there was multi tier structures below,and had a old ww2 prison below.
I could live in there. Just stock up on beans, etc. Good to go.
Wonder if that is where the 10st Airbourne liberated Goering's wine collection.
A swanky hotel could certainly convert all those tunnels into something interesting. Forget about Goering!
What is a "technical cabin where technical installations were located"? It looked like a narrow room with a long bench in the center, as if an unfinished locker room for a gymnasium or something, just minus the lockers on either side.

You are correct. None of the bunkers are accessable anymore.
Kind of hard to picture the wider bodied Göring running around his bunker. He should not have eaten tooo much more, or he wouldn't even have fitted.
Question: How did they manage to put the plumbing? For the water and toilet since this is underground

Excellent film. The allies should never have bombed the Berghof, and SS barracks etc. etc. as there was no need whatso ever. The whole area should have been saved for future generations to admire. Superb bunkers!
