- Wild camping trip to try out my new MSR Access One tent. So far it seems to be an excellent tent and a good potential option for solo camping and backpacking.
On this backpacking trip I met up with Robin who has the channel 'Walk With Wallace' for a trip high up into 'Glen Lyon to visit a very interesting spot called the 'Praying Hands' for our overnight camp.

Trying out a second hand 'MSR Access 1' tent I purchased for a bit of backpacking and wild camping.
@Gage Shiloh it worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Malachi Braydon Glad I could help :D
Greetings from Dartmoor! Thank you for taking us along on your overnighter. Great film and commentary. ATB... Mike
Hi Ray I was the photographer your were chatting with, Pleasure meeting you 👍🏻 Great vlog.
Hi Stuart. Was nice to chat and hope you got a good image or two from your trip. Atb
Thank you Ray.Your overnight ear reminds my of the Wither Hills down in the South Island!
Another cracking video, keep 'em coming please!
Thanks Jimmy. Atb
Lovely stuff. I always get a wee chuckle from your "outtakes" 😉 Hope this new tent works for you 👍
Thanks Sklunker. Could make a whole series with outtkaes, :) Atb
Enjoyed the video, hope you have fun with the MSR. Looks a nice tent, maybe feel more spacious than the TN southern cross 1, loved that winter video you did. Still to visit the praying hands, Glen Lyon a cracking area.
It is a great area and one of my favourites which you can likely tell. Atb
Great video mate!
Great wee outing there Ray and a location I've wanted to visit since seeing you photograph it.
Definitly high on my list now and hopefully chuck the nearby Munro (whichever it is) into the mix.
Great video again 👍🏻

Thanks Bryan. An amazing Glen to visit if you get the chance. Atb
Fantastic video, also footage and views incredible
Many thanks!
Very enjoyable viewing, thank you for sharing..:-)
Thanks for watching. :)
Enjoyed that video buddy, loving the Scottish mountains and scenery - been watching a load of your videos but wouldn’t say I’m a big commenter but enjoying them all the same. Just recently bought the MSR Access 1 and used it for the first time two weeks ago and so far so good was a bit windy during the night but the tent held up very well impressed with it so far ATB Mark & Simon 👍👌
Brilliant as always ⛰️
Many thanks Andy. Atb
That someone who sent you the tent link was us! :-) Glad you enjoyed using it so far. Definitely worth attaching the extra guy lines to really help add to its strength for the wind and indeed the winter. The extra tautness will help the snow slide off the tent. ATB D&L
Many thanks. Couldnt remeber where I got the message to add thank you in film. :) Have ordered additional guy lines to help strengthen it. That is something I did do with the Access 2 as well. Atb
Hi Ray what was the link again please. I can’t seem
To find it?
@@deanoss Three quarters of the way through film.
Another grand vlog - super jealous of the wee sleeping bag - I really need to get a bit lighter and smaller with my gear soon ! The weather looked super for the hike the next day 👌👌
Speak soon

Just a shame the bank balance gets a lot smaller along with it :) Great morning for a hike as well. Atb mate.
Good video, looks like a nice tent. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. We will see how it holds up over the winter.
@@RS.Outdoors let me know!
Great vid - back at the Praying Hands!
Thanks Graham. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors - I thought Murray had copyrighted atb! Now you as well! 😃
Great video. Looks like a good summer tent, I wouldn't want to be dealing with it in the rain!!
Rain ot much of an issue to be honest and will show why when I get the chance get out to film it. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors Wow, thanks for replying! I'm probably too broken from pitching/dropping too many tents in a downpour to buy into the inner first tents. I've never tried one as a result. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm interested in your opinion on this. Your videos are brilliant, please keep it up!
Thank you your nice video! I am just looking forward to buy for my solo trips either this MSR tent or a Hilleberg Soulo. MSR has less weight, but Soulo is designed for storm weather. Will see. Have nice trips!
Thanks Alex. Both tents are good but depends what kind of weather you want to go out camping in. I prefer mostly settled weather as i want to take photos. hence why I dont go out in really wild weather unless caught out. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors Thank you for your answer. I have 3 long trips in mind, 3 years forward. Will see which tent is better. Good luck!
I managed to find a used one. My Hubba and this one should get me through four seasons.
Nice to see your take on the evening Raymond, it was good night away and catch up. Did yi see me wave from the Corbett I was on? 😁
Cheers Robin, was a great night away. Did keep an eye out for you but didnt see you wave :) Atb
I’ve just purchased the orange one!
Great stuff, have fun. Atb
What is that front worn/front loading waist pack you are wearing at the 12:50 mark? looks like a nice "dayhike" option when the full rucksack isn't needed.
It is called a Ribzpack from the US.
Hi Ray wonderful review of the access 1, just wondered how your getting on with it these days, how water/windproof are they? I'm not getting out that much these days but quite fancied something a bit lighter than a Soulo thanks :) Tim
Hi Tim and hope you are keeping well. The tent is very good and copes well with fairly bad weather. The Access 2 is also a great tent for two people and not much heavier. Atb
Glad I found your channel and look forward to watching more of your videos. I was wondering what camera you are using. I'm looking to upgrade my two cheap cameras to something that will produce nicer quality productions. This is really beautiful quality footage and any advice would be appreciated (stabilizers? lens? etc.) Thanks and greetings from Satellite Beach, Florida. 🛶
Many thanks for watching. Nothing special for the footage. No gimbals ot anything fancy, just a GoPro Hero 7 for all the filming and my Sony A6500 for photography. The only two lenses I curently use on my Sony is the Sigma 16mm and Sony 18-105. Never really do any filming with the Sony.
@@RS.Outdoors Thanks for the information. It helps!
Cheesy dreams ......i love them ....Great video and get ya self on the Stilton matey...its better than Netflix :)
Will try that, Atb.
@@RS.Outdoors You know that Optimus wind shield ....where did you get that from because i have just been looking on the bay search and can only find one but its in Australia ......just going through your vids now mate....i really like how much detail and effort you put in to researching and making mods on your kit.....I am a vet of 15 years but not at all for what the poor programmed lads do these days ...they are cannon fodder and deeply programmed just as i was but i wondered if you may have served because of your attention to detail etc ....i don't do using my card on the net but i would love to send you some bits of kit that i no longer use and i think you would enjoy..Thanks for your channel and effort Big Man

@@RS.Outdoors Thanks a lot .
Hi bud thanks for sharing all you do. Fantastic photography, I do wonder what your kit is. More so, I tried looking in the vid info and comments about that body rucksack thing round your waist, mind shedding light on that comfy looking thing please? :D
Hi there. Please check out my last couple of gear videos a few films back, all explained. Atb
What are the Orange side bags you use which I’ve not seen before? Enjoyed the video and the views.
Ribz Packs from the US but not sure if you can get them any more. Atb
Nice one Ray! I've been looking for a tent myself recently and the access one is on my shortlist. The only things that concerns me is the inner first setup. Did you find it ok with the access 2? And how does the access one fair for the taller gentleman? Thanks for another great vid and thanks for the link 😉 Kris.
The pitch inner first has never been an issue for me. One of the benefits is that you can seperate the flysheet so if it is wet I put it in the stretch section on outside of rucksack and inner inside bag. Note that a lot of tents I have had that are all in one still end up with a wet inner. This happens when you roll up the whole tent and put it in its bag as the wet sil nylon flysheet oaks through to the inner ;) Not sure how tall you are but I am 5' 10" and I was fine with space either end. It is a great all round tent and would say my number one tent so far. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors Thanks for all the info Ray! For the price as well its an absolute bargain! I may well have to splash out! :D Cheers, Kris.
Enjoyed review, sometimes wonder if you’re in competition with Andrew Park when it comes to tents
He will take some beating ;) Atb
Hi Ray,
Great vid! Just wondered if you’ve had any issues with the poles? Seen a few users who had the point where the three poles go together at each end snap. I’d be interested in getting one but that puts me off slightly!
Not had an issue. Haven't really heard of that problem either not to say it doesn't happen. Would say that I take my time when uncoiling the poles and inserting them together. Have seen people open them up like a magicians act and this can damage them easily. Atb
Renegade Scot Thanks Ray, that’s good news!
Renegade Scot How have you gotten on with it? Still happy? Any other issues, condensation or anything else?
Great video quality, lovely footage, what camera are you using? Trust your tent and sleeping bag worked out? Many thanks
That was with a GoPro Hero 7 I think. Have used GoPro for most of my films and used the Hero 8 for my last WHW film. It is more to do with the editing software to get best from a camera and its footage. Currently use Davinci Resolve which is free, but a learning curve. Once you suss it out it, it is a great bit of software. Atb
@@RS.OutdoorsMany thanks for the comprehensive reply, much appreciated 👍👌😁
I change out my tent and backpack all the time as well. Some times more often then others, because I do like trying stuff and figuring out what fits me the best as I go along. Thankfully, I'm not alone in this! :D
Know what you mean. Atb
@1:42 wow !
Many thanks.
Great video mate, could you give us a link for your trousers maybe?
Hi James. Was goinjg to but struggling other than direct with fjallraven. They are called the Abisko trekking tights. One of the best pieces of clothing I have ever bought for out in the wilds. Atb
Hi Ray. Hope you well. Total long shot here but I have a question. I know you have the access 2 as well. Do you still use it much? I’m looking for the original footprint but seems impossible to buy now. Don’t suppose you want to flog yours? Or know of anywhere else or somebody who might have one to sell? I obviously know about the universal one. Best wishes. Ed
Hi Edward. I dont use my mSR much and also never ever used a footprint. Never used one and didnt have an issue on any trip I was on or hike. As such not able to help or have any idea where you could get one other than search the net or keep an eye out in ebay.
@@RS.Outdoors ok, thanks for the reply anyway 👍
Isn't that 'inner pitch first' thing just grief if it's raining or even just blowy?
Nope. Never had an issue with this out in the Scottish climate. Actually has benefits as well. In morning when flyshet is wet with condensation you can store it seperately from inner. Found that with other tents and you roll up together the inner gets soaked due to compressing it into stuff sack. Can put flysheet in mesh section on outside of rucksack and let it dry out if not raining.
@@RS.Outdoors I hear ya... had a berghaus 3.1pro one person tent (cost peanuts for quality standard) that stood up great to Ulster's bad weather and the inner could quickly be detached while the fly was standing to pack separately. Just saying... hope you get a grief free winter out of the MSR
Another tent, you're worse than me ! Access looks nice and solid though I added the 4 extra guys to the access 2 just to be sure. Was the bag warm, that's mega light and small, looks nice. A
Andrew Park interested to hear how the bag was mysel as it’s half the size and half the weight of my current!
You would take some beating mate ;) The sleeping bag is ok as it was about 5 degrees during night and I wasnt too hot or cold. Would say it is a 3 season bag to a point. If you are sleeping with it whilst wearing clothes like I do then shouldnt be an issue this time of year but wouldnt use for winter. Need to try it on a few more outings to get more feedback on it. Would not that it is delicate and the zip is very thin. Need to treat it as such. Atb
what was wrong with the wechsel exogen 1 that you returned it, may i ask?
Was leaking under heavy rain. At points out with the seams.
@@RS.Outdoors i see, thanks for letting me know. since the access 1's price i'm thinking about getting the exogen 1, maybe with some additional seam sealing it would stand heavy rain
Great vid. New sub here.
Awesome thank you!
Good video. What is the link to buy a similar tent?

Great video and love watching your stuff. Sorry what is the email address for your kit. TIA.
I do not have a website with kit list if this is what you mean, but do plan on creating one. At the moment most of my main things used in the video is in the description links. Atb
Did you keep the tent?
Sold a while ago as I like to try other setups. However the MSR Access 2 and the MLD Duomid in DCF are my favourites to date. Atb
how many tents you got big yin ?
2
@@RS.Outdoors aye youre a funny guy big yin
Tents are too heavy, too much of a faff. I've been using an MSR Bivvy Bag (has a bit of a frame at the head end) for over 20 years now. It was pricey at the time, but has lasted well. Only problem was the holding tapes for the sleeping mat coming unglued after a decade or so. Hammocks are also fun, but you can't always get to trees and they are surprisingly heavy.
I'm not a fan of these small one man tents ,I need to be able to sit up inside and be able to get changed and cook inside if need to and store everything from the elements . Although of course the extra weight is demanding on your back and causes limitations on how far your hike is so good planning is essential
Very true. Atb
You can get the msr brand new for £10 more
Great stuff, please share link with everyone. Many thanks.
@@RS.Outdoors im sorry its £11 more ..outdoorgear.co.uk £299 .... That link you but on there selling them at £288..... Enjoy every 1 👍👍👍👍👍👍 thanks for vid ... Im getting 1 now 😂😂
