DERM to the Mallee - DERMPAV Sea Lake tour with 58RM: Australian Trains

Over the weekend of 9 and 10 March 2013, DERMPAV operated the second of two weekend trips to Sea Lake approximately 420km from Melbourne in the north west of Victoria, Australia.
This video commences at Boigbeat, approximately 10km south of Sea Lake and follows the DERM all the way to North Creswick, near Ballarat. A chase of approximately 270km!
DERM 58RM was built under license from the Electro-Motive Company in 1930 as a petrol-electric rail motor (known as a Gas-Electric in the USA). In the 1950's it was converted to diesel-electric with two 6-71's in place of the original Winton motor. It was withdrawn from regular service in the late 1980's and passed into the care of SRHC and subsequently DERMPAV. In 2011, 58RM returned to mainline service and now operates regular tours all over Victoria's mainline network.

Some great capturing of the awesome music of twin 6/71's. You were fortunate to get a nice still day to avoid the wind ruining it. Hard to do at times. What a way to travel eh? I think the DERMs like the most handsome with the radiator end leading, although the drivers probably don't! Go the mighty blue and gold.

This would have been an Absolutely Fantastic Trip to go on up into the Mallee places like Culgoa Berriwillock Wycheproof and of course Zealand!😀🚞🛤️🌾🌾🌾🐂

Too many toots Not really professional is it? Their are enough crossings to play with horns, I would think? But then again they are treated like toys, I guess :(

i imagine that over the long distance travelled, the horn was used appropriately and only at crossings and there were long periods where never a horn was heard. we only saw short snippets of the journey and i do get a smile when a driver plays a one note tune. the cameraman might be a good friend of the driver. i reckon that derm looks like a fun day out. would it be easy to convert it to sg?
