    Rabea Massaad, Ben Minal & Dave Hollingworth - 15 minute Jam behind the scenes at musicisum
    Hey guys,
    So this is some behind the scenes footage of me, Dave and Ben jamming. We've always jammed together and a lot of it was funky rock stuff. It's completely improvised so excuse the odd hiccups!
    Enjoy

    Rabea is one of the top guitarists in the world. In terms of making real music, with real virtuosity, he's on par with Nuno and George Lynch. I've waited years to see another genius like this. For example, working chords in to a solo--and pulling it off--he is truly bad ass.

    It's so refreshing to listen to musicians who use music to express their emotions, not just to play meaninglessly. Too many guitarists just play licks up and down the neck but never really have anything to convey. The playing often just sounds emotionless and similar.
    Then we have you guys who instantly connect with what you are playing. That's what separates good from great, and skilled from talented! Keep it up!

    Can tell Rab and Dave really focused on building groove through their strumming hands. A lot of guitar players today ride off their technical hand, but lose all the soul and groove that the strumming hand. I remember only liking heavy bands like Korn and Pantera, and Fieldy from Korn told me to build the strumming hand up, and that's where all the funk and groove come from. Recommended to learn whatever songs I was learning with just strumming and no 2nd hand to lead. Changed the game. i am sure these guys did similar practices in early or later years too.

      I guess you're right. My dad sticks his tongue out when he writes, so I might just have a similar quirk without noticing. I have a tendency to push my bottom lip out when playing bass... so maybe with guitar too.

    The best part?
    You listened to each other all the way through. That turned this from 'just a jam' into a musical entity of spontaneous composition. 😊😊🖤🖤🔥🔥

    what does one have to learn/practice in order to jam like this?

    • @spacejazz6272
      @spacejazz6272 Před 8 lety +5

      just learn scales and lots of music theory, and practice playing with other people

    • @lavbas2107
      @lavbas2107 Před 8 lety +1

      Stephen Barlow I started to look more into theory but it's really hard/boring to learn unless I incorporate them with some sort of musical ideas, any advice?

    • @spacejazz6272
      @spacejazz6272 Před 8 lety +1

      Vu Le theory without context is quite boring and so incoperating it with musical ideas is a really good way to learn it, maybe ask your teacher for more lessons on theory as they will know what you want to learn and how to teach it (or maybe get yourself a teacher if you don't have one)
      Bottom line is, theory is the less glamourus side of music but something that is so nessecary to being good. If you really really want to be able to jam like these guys than you're gonna have slog through the boring and hard stuff because I'm 100% certain these guys had to do that as well

      @lavbas2107 Před 8 lety

      Stephen Barlow much appreciated

    • @danielmcgregor1
      @danielmcgregor1 Před 8 lety +1

      +Stephen Barlow I dare say you are quite incorrect sir, theory is good to have and know, but I'm 18 years old and have been in a live playing band for a year now, I knew a couple scales than from there linked everything I knew and learnt just how to stay in key, other than that just jamming and using your ear to create your own sound is the way I go about and many musician's over the year's but that is just my opinion

    • @luukwoudstra8903
      @luukwoudstra8903 Před 8 lety +26

      a bassist doesn't have to shine in a very intricate bass solo to be a good bassist. a bassist can be good in his feel for rhythm and which notes he plays in his basslines. I find it refreshing that this bassplayer is so good yet doesn't have to prove it in a badass solo.

    • @gemiro1234
      @gemiro1234 Před 8 lety +3

      Ok, but it is very nice to watch a bassist making some improvisation... not only doing the same notes/chords/"riffs" while guitar is making awesome solos! (sorry for bad english!)
