  • The key fob began malfunctioning and would lock or unlock multiple times at the slightest touch and some times on its own. Eventually it would not work at all.

Thank you! I have a Dodge Caravan 2019 and it has been a pain in the butt. Transmission went out last year but had an extended warranty that covered the $7500. My AC and heat does the same thing as well. You saved me a lot of money with my key fob. Everything is made so cheap!

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee would unlock itself after I changed the battery in the fob, thought I was losing my mind. It's been sitting on my key rack for the past 1.5 years until today. Within 5 min I had it fixed and put back together. Saved me $$ Thank you!!

THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!! My 2009 Challenger RT key fobs both started going wonky after 15 years. Windows going down by themselves, horn honking, lights flashing... all without even touching the fob. Even rolled down windows during a thunderstorm! I tried this hack last week and it seems to have solved the problem. Can't thank you enough. I was going crazy and couldn't find anything in my searches.

Wow! After gluing (as you did) and taking apart several times ( as you did) I decided to try the tape method. It has worked every push of the button! Thank you for sharing because I'm retired and didn't want to pay a dealer for a replacement and programming. Much appreciated!

This video saved me $600. I had two keyless entry key fobs for my 2011 Grand Caravan that had both stopped working. One of them, we stopped using years ago when it malfunctioned to the point where it was no longer useable. We held on to it for the key, but it was just hanging there on the key hook for years. We have been using the other one ever since, but it started malfunctioning in the last couple of weeks also and was at the point where I just couldn't use it anymore. Since both key fobs were now broken we contacted the dealership to get a new one. They wanted $200 for the fob and $90 to program it. So, $600 to replace both broken fobs and a minimum of $300 to get one. I said, no thank you and crossed my fingers that CZcams University would have a cheaper solution. Scotch tape is about as cheap of a solution as you can get. I will say, the Scotch tape did not work by itself for me, but since I understood the problem, I was still able to get them working. Even after taping the buttons on, my connection wasn't happening when I pressed, unless in pressed really hard. The yellow circle of goop that was on top of the buttons wasn't thick enough )probably having worn off over time like the glue. Easy fix...I used a very light dab of hot glue on the rubber for each button. Voila!! Fixed. Note: if you make the dab of hot glue too big, it won't work. Has to be just right. Hopefully, you won't need this extra step and the tape is enough, but if you do, it worked great for me. Thanks again for a helpful video.

Thank You for this video. I'm not sure why I didn't find this earlier but I was so sick of having to take out the manual key everytime I wanted to use my wife's car. Finally in the last couple weeks her key started unlocking the door by itself which is very dangerous. I was able to fix both keys in a couple minutes doing this. The dealer was clueless about this issue and from various forums it seems anyone who has these keys eventually runs into this. One of the metal pieces was all the way on the bottom.

Great video. Not sure how the tape would hold up in the long term though. I had the same problem and fixed the disks in place with polyurethane (PU) glue. After two years, the fob started to go a little wonky, so I popped it apart and was surprised to find the metal disks still in place! Turns out the contacts were just a little dirty. A couple minutes work with Q-Tips and mineral spirits to clean them and I was back in business. Polyurethane glue sticks like crazy and remains flexible. Just be sure to clean both surfaces thoroughly and follow the instructions for the glue - and only use a little - it expands as it cures!

I recently started having issues with the main FOBIK I have always used with my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. My FOBIK started acting up, mainly the unlock button. I would slightly put my thumb on the unlock button (or even worse, put the FOBIK inside my pocket), and the car would start to try to unlock the doors. I opened the FOBIK shell and found the little metal plate unglued. I ordered 2 aftermarket FOBIK's and they arrived today. When I opened one of the aftermarket FOBIK's I saw it had scotch tape (very nicely taped -from manufacture-) similar to your video. I then found your video and said "voila!, this will do the trick". I followed your easy instructions and right away tested my old FOBIK. It works perfect!!! I called a local locksmith here in Pinellas Park, FL (before I found your video) asking to quote me to program one of the new FOBIK's and he would charge me $89.00 to program and cut the key inside the shell. So your tip saved me money and all the hassel to have to drive to the locksmith shop and wasted time. I really appreciate this video. Thanks PromiseKeeper!!!

My dad installed car alarms and keyless entry in the late 80's and early 90's. I know exactly how far they've come. Coworker has a BMW. The battery in his key fob is sealed inside. You have to break the seal around the key fob (without breaking the key fob) and the battery is soldered inside. He was ready to buy a new car when they told him they wouldn't replace the battery for him. Pretty sure he fixed it himself finally.

That’s awesome. This video has gotten a lot more attention than I would have ever expected. Chrysler has been a big disappointment. From the car keys right down to the brakes... Never again.

I have a 2013 dart and the trunk and autostart buttons were doing same thing. I took battery out to prevent the issue. Than found your video. Thank you so much

Oh man, I’m glad I didnt have to worry about remote start on my van. My wife would have been freaked out thinking someone was stealing it. Horrible design.

@@PromisKeeper yea seriously 12 hour shifts at work i would see it on in parking lot and worried i would not have gas or other electrical issues. I started to hit panic button on leaving car any where just because it disabled the auto start

Nice job! I used Superglue and found out that once the glue hardened it basically prevented the buttons from being depressed. Had to remove all that so I could use your method. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for sharing, did work to restore a little of the sanity the door locks tried to steal.

Have you had problems with the door lock actuators in your sliding doors? Chrysler should have taken better care of caravan owners. Very low quality parts.
