- Burke is a ghost town in Shoshone County, Idaho, United States, established in 1887. Once a thriving silver, lead and zinc mining community, the town saw significant decline in the mid-twentieth century after the closure of several mines.
My wife and I stopped for gas in Wallace one night on a cross country road trip. The gps had a bout of cranial flatulence and tried to take us to Glacier N.P. via the road you just took us on instead of getting back on the interstate. We went up there just to see, but at 2:30 in the am or so, there wasn't much to see except it was clear there was a ghost town and mine. We turned around a little beyond where you did, at a a gravel lot with a substation. The road continued on to the right of the substation but the piles of snow on either side were the red flags we needed to tell us to quit following the gps and head for the interstate and Kalispell. Thanks for posting.
My pleasure. Thank you 😊
You are living your best life!!! I'd love to be doing this 😊

Pronounced Burk not Burkee. My dad worked at that mine in the 70s and 80s
Thanks. That’s awesome.

What is it? is a smoke stack for a small mill. There used to be a lot all over this area but they are mostly gone now. Great video of North Idaho.
Thank you.
Also called a wigwam burner. Used to burn scrap lumber.
I've always heard them called Teepee burners@@Nickifoster-hl3ux
