#RedWing #Thorogood #MocToe
Great review. I have a pair of the Thorogoods and a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers with the same copper rough and tough leather as your Moc Toes. For sure, the Thorogoods were much easier to break in. The leather is buttery soft. The leather on the Red Wings is definitely stiffer and hence the challenge to break them in. I took them to work and wore them every morning thru lunch and it took about 4 weeks to get to about 90% broken in. I still need the heel and upper from the ankles and above to break in a bit more. But wearing them only half a day avoided any blisters. I walk about 1/4 mile each way from my office to the company cafeteria and between buildings on our company campus, so they get plenty of service. The Red Wings fit better around my foot box. I ended up purchasing 1/2 size smaller on the Red Wings compared to my regular shoes.
Sounds like a very familiar story mate. I really agree with the half day method. Good on you

I been wearing the same pair of thorogood since 2018 (about 5 years). Still have plenty of sole left. But I just bought my friend red wing moc toe 8847 because there is no thorogood store and I think the red wing has its advantages.
Pros of thorogood: cheaper (if you can accept the minor short comings its a better value), more comfortable, krape sole last longer (made of synthetic material), easier break in, more work boot oriented than casual boot (while the red wing can be used for work, there are much cheaper alternatives).
Pros of red wing: made of better material (thicker leather, no plastic wealt like the thorogood, no cheap boot insert), more options of colors and designs, more iconic brand (I been ask if my thorogood were red wing but few knew what thorogood boots were), no flag tag on the side (I'm patriotic, love that thorogood usa made but the flag is over branding and it get dirty), red wing store affrodable resole network (thorogood does not offer resole at the factory by mail), more casual than work boot; better for dressing up.
Thanks for watching and dropping these notes! I agree with your assessments as you'll see from the video. Blessings!
Great video, bud! Keep up the great work! I just got a 1907 and am breaking it in. Looking forward to updates with your 1907s.
Cheers man 🥾🥾
@@GentlemansJourney Would be great to see a video comparison between the 1907s and the Iron Rangers! How do they stack against each other in terms of durability/construction, what situations to wear each one, use on different terrain, etc. I recently chose the 1907s over the Iron Rangers, but will very likely have an Iron Ranger in my collection eventually.
Great video buddy!
I’ll finally get my 1907 next November, not easy to find them here in south Spain.
Wow what an ordeal. Good on you mate. Cheers and thanks for watching.
I was tempted to get the Thorogood but ended up getting the 875 red wing. I wanted a heavier leather and the ability to resole multiple times. Since Thorogood had a plastic welt, kinda steered away from that compared to the leather welt on the redwing. Additionally, the heal counter on the Thorogood is a thermoplastic., also a letdown compared to the leather board on the redwings. Once the heel counter cracks, the back of the boot starts to lose structure. Redwings are pricier, but they are built better, can be resoled multiple times and will last longer with a yearly conditioning. The internet is full of pictures of 5-10 year old redwings that still look great with a super nice patina. I haven't seen that with the Thorogood.
Love that you are doing your research mate. These are great boots and you'll love them. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment! Cheers and happy Thanksgiving
The 1907’s are a tough break in but they’re well worth it. Only negative thing is the rolled top. For a month I lived with the irritating little strips of vinyl sawing into my calves until one day I had enough and surgically removed them with an X-acto knife. Much better!
If they were real leather I wouldn’t have touched them other than apply a light coating of mink oil if need be. Don’t know why Red Wing can’t find some leather scraps to use, and it would save them money.
Good fix! Yeah that is a downside to them. Thanks for watching
I got both of them, including some other Thorogood models, Iron Ranger, etc.
Personally, Red Wing is more comfortable than Thorogood, excluding the insole.
Redwing doesn't have it, but Thorogood has a comfy, soft insole; that's the only benefit. and the price.
If you can insert some good insole into Redwing with a wider size, it's best.
Great review man and I appreciate you watching. Sounds like you have a very respectable collection there! What's your favorite boot you own?
Do you have another favorite heritage boot brand?
1) Style: Redwing wins, its the OG - but it doesn't win by a huge margin imho, as the Thorogoods look fantastic too.
2) Work: Thorogood, by a large margin IMHO - especially in terms of immediate comfort; although, once broke in the Redwings win in general wear comfort.
I own both. I love my Redwings. But, the Thorogoods are more comfortable immediately, cheaper, still look fantastic, and are more suited as a modern work boot.
Thorogood wins in practicality. Redwing wins in style and heritage respect.
Very solid opinion!! 🥾🥾
For my money it’s red wing. The thorogood leather feels too soft and broken down by time the sole is worn out. Not worth a resole in my opinion. My red wing moc toe are definitely worth a resole when the sole is done.
Great insight!! Thanks for watching.
This is the absolute best opinion I can offer, Thoroughgood for Work. Red Wings for adventures, and longevity. Resole value goes to the Red Wings, aka longevity winner is Red Wings. ThoroughGoods are preferable for work though.
Great thoughts mate! Thanks for your input 🥾🥾
I love how you always say friends❤ I had Thorogood’s’s and love them then I bought these red wings and I think these are the best and I didn’t think nothing of it. They’re all good they’re so perfect but redwings just built different love them both but the edge goes to Red Wings in my opinion
So good! Sounds like we came to the same conclusion, love them both!! Cheers
I agree that the RW 1907s are harder to break in!
I get notes from gentlemen asking how to break them in all the time. They are pretty tough. What's your go to boot right now?
@@GentlemansJourneyProbably my Grant Stone field boots
Same size for iron rangers and 1907's is a bit confusing for me...
Did you go up or down in sizing for those two?
I tend to downside with iron rangers and be near true to size with 1907's. The lenght is very different between last n°8 and 45 @GentlemansJourney
A little early for "moc-toeber", but...
Should I list the reasons why I still choose Thoro?
I wouldn't wear either on a date, but I now notice the one doesn't have the speed hooks, though, but likely don't come in my size, anyway. But I find the T's run true-to-size, as I've mentioned before, so less guessing game there for me.
@@Highland_Paddy Sure!
@@Highland_Paddy I really like speed hooks on the top.
@@GentlemansJourney Once again, I'm getting NO Red Wing. They don't come in my size, they cost extra, they don't have any taller ones than 6", etc.
Carolina CA7502 🇺🇸 for the win
Going on the list! thanks
Carolinas are trash lol
Whites perry boot moc toe is the best moc toe for the money. I put my boots through hell. Ive resoled them twice and they are about to go up for a 3rd resole. Unbelievable quality.
Througood rubber welt not really resole-able ! Very thin leather!
Price wise ? Whites Perry Moc toe ! 5 mm leather re soled twice already ! Price $350
Thanks for watching!! Whites Perry is on the list for sure.
The Thorogood leather holds up just fine. The resole though will cost you. One good resole then that welt has to be changed so that drives the resole price sky high. I’d love to try Perry’s but I’m not going through the headache of ordering something I can’t try on. Got fitted for 1907’s and they fit like a dream.
RW 1907 must be wider in the front
Thanks for watching!!
