Best thing about bamboo straws is that they’re incredibly easy to manufacture, because when in the right climate, bamboo grows at a terrifying rate. As in, if you stay quiet in a bamboo forest, you can literally hear the bamboo stalks grow around you, they grow that quick. Oh and they’re biodegradable, that’s also a plus.

The agave ones broke from the side easily too, one of my oaxaqueño restaurant that I love use them for the drinks and if you aren’t careful the “sides” will break and you will either need to put your fingers in the broken side so the air doesn’t escape from them, flip it until the broken part gets bigger (it breaks in a line) or you ask for another one. If you are come to Merida (still in Mexico) the restaurant is called Apoala, it has really great dishes and drinks and if you want something really Oaxaca style ask for the “Trifecta” is a set of three starter dishes, it’s an item that is off the menu (and I’m the one that named it lol) it’s guacamole, oaxaqueño grasshoppers, “quesillo” (Oaxaca’s cheese) and some tortillas to make a grasshopper, guacamole with cheese taco, it’s really great, specially if you add a Mezcal (it’s just extra information, but the shot of mezcal shouldn’t be drink in one shot, but little sips, you can use oranges and caterpillar salt after the sips.) Almost all starters are pretty good, the food overall is pretty good, for dessert I would recommended the coconut sponge, but it isn’t that common (the head chef makes them like thrice a week and most of the time there aren’t any because people love them, myself included, so if you call to make s reservation I would recommend to ask to reserve a coconut sponge too and if you are in the season the Tuna ice cream with a shot of mezcla is pretty great too, but don’t take too many or you will get wasted 😂)
I feel like people are forgetting something important: it’s not that were using plastic straws, it that people are throwing them into the ocean. If people didn’t throw the straws into the ocean then everything will be fine
It isnt exactly throwing them directly into the ocean, if you're near the coast and you litter 100miles in from shore there's a good chance the wind still picks that straw up and carries it to the ocean over the following weeks, months, even years since plastic takes so long to degrade. Realistically 100miles isn't even as far as it can be, so even litter from very far inland can make its way there without being tossed directly into the ocean. Which makes the problem more about litter in general than just tossing it into the ocean
lol@@treeck3724
It’s also not all about the ocean. We have covered our entire planet in plastics. Unborn fetal tissue has detectable levels of microplastics in it. Protecting the oceans is obviously important, but we’ve polluted every square inch of this planet with plastics.

Imma name mine james , pick him/her up when I am up for a drink
Bamboo also grows insanely fast so it is kind of perfect really
Few will probably see this, and fewer still will actually listen to it and take action, but it’s important to state none the less:
Straws make up less then 1/10th of 1% of the plastic in the ocean.
Nets make up half of all the plastic in the ocean.
It’s fine to use plastic straws if you recycle them probably it’s also fine to give them up if that makes you feel better.
But If you want to make a real impact, start finding a solution to the nets. Don’t trick yourself into thinking that anything is changing by giving up plastic straws.
