  • This was made a few months ago & I didnt have time to edit it as much compared to previous videos, so some edits aren't good and I didnt get to make it as humorous as the prev videos unfortunately. 😂 No meme references guys sorry.
    Since last visiting Ive confirmed after talks with experts and locals that the deeper parts we've went into were what I realized to be hidden sub-populations (hidden locations which will be kept secret to avoid poachers).
    Either way I had a chance to revisit the Redondo areas again!
    This time however I went with new friends who are fellow carnivorous plant enthusiast, so it was a nice change to explore with folks with the same interest.
    Hailing all the way from Germany and Austria. Matze, Manu, & Stefan had been going around the Philippines exploring Nepenthes areas & Im glad to have had the opportunity to tag along & guide them in nepenthes areas of Dinagat Islands as one of their escapade plans.
    I did sustain a few minor injuries, as you do with explorations.
    I also fell down a hole (pretty glad I had other people with me this time to pull me out). But it was all worth it to see this amazing ecosystem.
    I was glad to see the progression of their growth after 3-4 months. In the video Ive even put some of the old footage beside the new ones to compare how some looked like a few months ago.
    We saw many giants and extremely unique individuals that I totally missed the first time I was here.
    I am most impressed by Nepenthes erucoides growth speed in the wild, it seems they grow faster than what people initially thought, as long as they are not disturbed.
    Hopefully I get to come back every year!

    So many cool nepenthes on that island. I would love to go see them in the wild. Great video

      it was mid day actually but we just had bad weather. Its usually sunny and warm but foggy every now and then

      Is the area considered highland?

    • @annon101
      @annon101  Před rokem +1

      I would say lowland-Intermediate but its really dry during summer and almost nonstop heavy rains during wet season.

    is poaching a problem in your area? there seems to be a very healthy and stable population of truncata there

      @annon101  Před rokem +2

      occationally we do get them, but its not as bad as other areas since this place is private land and access isnt as easy. There are multiple hidden populations. Its a recovering populations from the years of mining and human disturbance.

    Kung my corals & shells, baka makakita kayo ng fossils.

    • @annon101
      @annon101  Před rokem +2

      Unlikely as the acidic nature of this substrate does not preserve fossils well, which is why fossilized pitcher plants & cp's in general are unheard of.
      Its possibly an ancient seabed that was pushed up to the surface by volcanic activities.
      Its still weird though as there should be more limestone if thats the case.

      @@annon101 I see

    • @tiamat87
      @tiamat87 Před rokem +1

      I dont think they got there naturally. Acid soil will eradicate limestone(coral&shell sediment) within no time. Im no geologist, but anywhere we went on Mindanao, Sibuyan and Luzon(not 100% sure on Luzon) there was laterite soils/rocks only

    • @annon101
      @annon101  Před rokem

      @@tiamat87 Oh yeah that makes sense too, but why would anyone bring coral/limestone up there?
      only thing i can think of is maybe some people were planning to build something with concrete maybe?
