Here it is, the comparison review between the the 2022 35mm Summilux Steel Rim Reissue and the Vintage V2 pre ASPH Summilux.. As Leica calls it, the original, self proclaimed 'True King of Bokeh' and father to the Leica 35mm V4 summicron...
If you've watched my earlier video, the Vintage 35mm V2 PRE-ASPH summilux is one of my most used lenses, especially with film photographs, and the primary lens that has been glued to my black paint Leica MP and my Leica M6 for the past few years.
In this video, you’ll find many sample pictures. All the black and white photographs featured in this video were shot on Fomapan 400+ and Ilford HP5 pushed 2 stops, developed in Ilfotec HC on a rotary processor. The color (C41 and ECN 2) photographs were shot on either Kodak Vision3 250D, 500T, Gold or Ultramax.

Thank you for your latest video. The full review will be interesting, and especially on a film camera.

Wow, thank-you for posting. Congratulations on your candor, brevity and relevance. I eagerly look forward to the 35mm Summilux pre-asph comparison video. Cheers from Canada.

Really excited for the full review! This lens on the MP looks so beautiful! I currently have the black 35 pre asph v2 and the 35 asph FLE but can’t decide between the two of them. I Love the pre asph, but it’s not always great for color and sometimes I think it’s too soft with a bit too much character. Then I use the asph for a while until I don’t like it any more because it is too neutral and my pictures are lacking atmosphere. So I return to the pre asph and the cycle begins again. 😅 maybe the steel rim could be a good middle ground with popping colors and decent BW performance without looking „boring“

Yes I agree! 😂 The full video is out now, I guess the next thing to explore would be the SR vs the ASPH on color...🤔

Although I'm not replacing my V2 any time soon, I would love to hear your thoughts compared to it. Looks equally good on the black & chrome Mps!

Just catching up on a few of your recent vids that I've missed, Jeremy. Awesome work on the full review! Just curious---do you have a small printer at home that you use for the small B&W prints in this video? I'm on the lookout for one, and your prints look nice. Thanks for your awesome contributions to the film community here on YT, man. I think your photos are wonderful.

Thank you for the kind words, they mean more than you realise!! 😌
I’ve been using the Canon CP1500. It makes nice “work prints” at a reasonable price, and they print fast too. The ink comes boxed together with the paper, and it’s much more convenient than a traditional inkjet printer!
They’re pretty good with b&w but I was surprised how well they handle colour prints! Not “fine art” or “museum grade” but definitely shareable with friends and family. A game changer for personal work!

Can’t fit lens hood and uv filter … crazy …. No protection for such a gorgeous but expensive lens …
