- Since Messi lifted the World Cup trophy a couple Decembers ago it’s like there’s been a campaign to downplay and defame his greatest triumph.
Unfortunately, it’s a lil too recent for all the revisionism attempts. We all watched it. We lived through it. Messi’s performance in the 2022 World Cup will go down in the books as one of the greatest in the history of the sport.

I think where people started losing faith was when for a couple of seasons, teams had to fight for points in court after the season had ended. These points have an effect on relegation and even who gets to go to continent competitions etc.
The FA and Premier league board making questionable decisions on where teams are allowed to play their home games, it's a whole lot.
The FA president go implicated in a corruption scandal a couple of years back.

If there was any FIFA conspiracy to favor Argentina, FIFA would never let them lose 2014 wc final, 2015 copa final, 2016 copa final and come fail in 2018 WC against France and lose to Brazil in 2019 Copa semi-final (haters can't imagine how demoralizing it is to lose 3 major finals in 1 decade). Not to mention, upon losing for your country, there is a different level of humiliation and insults by your very own countrymen. A Fifa Conspiracy to help Argentina is a ridiculous prospect considering that a bad call from a referee granted Germany their WC2014 win, when Germany commited two of the worst fouls in the entire tournament in that same match, one was punished incredibly lightly and the other wasn't just unpunished, the ref awarded the foul to Germany after Neuer came within centimeters of literally killing Higuain on the pitch (if the knee had caught Higuain on the jaw directly without hitting his shoulder and chest first, that could've legitimately killed Higuain right then and there from the impact breaking his neck).

Messi killed every single argument they used against him for 17+ years, and when he finally complete everything on the list it became crystal clear these people simply never liked the fact that Messi is the greatest. It says a lot Messi had to prove all these things for almost 2 decades but they put Mbappe up there with the best right after his hattrick in the final like he didn't have to prove anything anymore. I am also a Messi/Argentina fan - but Mbappe already had a world cup to his name in 2018 and almost managed another one in 2022 single-handedly. So obviously he had less left to prove at the international level. In the end it comes down to perception. The 2014 final was going nowhere for entire 120 minutes - that's the big stage where a spark from someone as great as Messi at a good age should have made a difference (probably Di Maria would have made the difference had he played). Still what Messi did at 36 is an example and in the end the better team won. Now to make the ending even better I hope Messi retires and does not repeat the CR7 disaster.

You were robbed by a Referee that's infamous for wanting to be the protagonist of every game he officiates, and he was just as bad against Argentina in that game, and if people actually looked at that without the bias from a lot of the dominant sports Media (which happens to be very Westernmost Euro-centric and in particular, very dominated by worship of the wealthiest clubs in Europe) they would notice that the ref in that game was just straight up horrendous and both teams complained heavily about him.

The pens against Netherlands and Croatia were also totally right (what's a ref supposed to do: not give a totally nailed on pen just because a team has already had a few? 😂 That's not how the game works).
Can't remember one of the pens but I will say the one against Poland was soft. But there's a big difference between a soft pen and outright rigged one. 😂 We cant judge the later pens just by that one being dubious.
Ref between Argies and Netherlands wasn't great. This is true and probs why all the players were able to kick off at each other. Messi definitely should have been booked for his blatant handball. Though if he is, he doesn't get booked for dissent later and the game may well be a lot calmer. Ref was too lenient in a few circumstances and that goes a long way in players pushing their boundaries.
I imagine refereeing is a lot like teaching. Give the players (or children) an inch and they take a mile!

Barca’s 08/09 run had a lotta shitty calls, especially in the Chelsea matchup. Numerous Madrid UCL runs have shockingly awful officiating, shit their win dis year had plenty of pretty bad calls.
My mind really doesn’t jump straight to “rigged” wit occasional bad calls cuz refs have historically always been ass. Imo only one of Argentina’s penalties was undeserved (The Poland miss). The Saudi Arabia one was soft though

There's hundreds of videos analizing how Argentina tactically destroyed everyone in the tournament as well, so just pick your side. You're comparing a team like South Korea that invalidated perfectly valid goals against MULTIPLE teams in the tournament several times, gave incredibly weird reds, called completely made up offsides, vs a team that was so "favored" that a handball inside the box against Australia was completely ignored, or the match against Netherlands added 10 extra minutes when Argentina was winning, or the final match that gave 2 penalties to the opposition.
