  • In Hawaii, in a town called Kolohe by the sea, lives a boy called Maka.
Without him realizing, he wakes up one day and spends it in one of the most Hawaiian ways possible.
Within him is the spirit of community, the virtue of helpfulness, and the magic of Laulima. By the end of the day he has hatched a plan to bring the people of the town together with the help of his best friend the Aloha Meter and his Aunty Mala.
    What does he do?
    What is this big plan?
And what is the Hawaiian value known as Laulima?
This is a book about many things. It is about friendship and family, togetherness, and thoughtfulness. But most of all it is about introducing young readers to one of the many things that makes Hawaii uniquely kind. Laulima is all about not only serving the community but encouraging those around us to invest in common goals that will ultimately benefit everyone.
This is the Second of a series of books about the values embedded in Hawaiian culture. These values, although Hawaiian in origin, can be taught and adopted by anyone who wants to see a more caring and connected world.
