2010 Toyota Corolla High Beam Headlight bulb replacement

  • Update- Do not touch the bulb with your bare hands, the oil that transfers from your skin to the bulb can cause the bulb to prematurely fail.
    Thanks for watching this video everyone. Here is some info.
    I recommend the Sylvania Xtravision Bulbs instead of the Sylvania Silverstar models (silverstar, Silverstar Ultra and Silverstar zXe) because the Xtravison bulbs have a 850 hour expectancy and the silverstar models have WAY less hour expectancy.
    You really wanna look at life expectancy on bulbs when purchasing, because I noticed that there are negative reviews on the silverstar bulbs because they didn't know the life expectancy on the more expensive bulbs have shorter life expectancy.

    Omg, it's that easy?! Literally about to cry (stressful time and my blown lightbulb tipped the scales) because I can do this myself! When you move to another state away from where you grew up and your Dad always handled stuff like this it's so frustrating when car "issues" pop up! Thank you soooo much

      Aww, I’m happy to know my video helped you out, if u have any questions about how to do any other repairs on your car, please feel free to ask me.

But when I removed the old bulbs the little coil inside was still intact. I assume like house bulbs the coil intact means it's still good.

      Do you still have the old bulbs? Are you able to get them out of the trash?
      Did u wanna email me a photo of the bulbs you installed? You can email me a photo at Hollowsworld2018@gmail.com
      Did u replace both the high beam and the low beam bulbs?

    Thank you, I just saved about $60 and a hour of my life thanks to this 3 min video. P.S. from outside to inside the lights go (furthest outside) turning signal, (big center) low beam, (most medial/closest to engine) high beam. The process for low beam and high beam replacement are identical.

    Holy cow! Thank you so much for posting this video, that was really easy. I had previously watched a video that showed taking the whole bumper off and removing the entire headlight assembly first, and I got worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it myself. I am so glad I found your video. Much appreciated!!

      There is one of the lights you do need to remove the wheel liner to access the light, I believe it’s the turn signal to access that bulb.

    This is the third rather minor thing I've had to do to my Corolla since driving it. The first two were having to replace the aux port with an upgraded unit to hook my cell phone up to the stereo and had to change the alternator. All of it has been a breeze. I have to say it's one of the best engineered cars I've owned.

    • @JohnathansWorld

      You had aux port issues too?! For a bit my car had this funny feature that when I slowed down, the volume of my music (on the aux) would lower but as i picked up speed the volume would raise. After replacing the aux thing itself (due to an unrelated issue) i did not experience that again 😭

    Clear & Easy.Thanks!
    B U T do NOT put your bare fingers on these bulbs! They get HOT and any oils from your fingers will burn into the bulb's glass. That can change how the light gets out, may even reduce the bulb life. Use gloves or even a clean paper towel or napkin when handling bulbs.

    Hi Jonathan, I hope you’ve had a nice Christmas. I just wanted to tell you that your comments in the video are totally accurate. My comments written in my previous post are wrong. As stated in your comments, the high beam bulbs are also the day time running light bulbs and their number is 9005. The low beam bulbs are 9006, as mentioned in your video. Therefore, I apologize for writing that the low beam bulbs were also the day time running light bulbs.

      Any idea how to turn off the tire pressure light that remains on in the dash? Garage said I'll need to replace sensors on all wheels at $600. I said "no thanks" I'll put up with the light.

    • @JohnathansWorld
      @JohnathansWorld  Před 7 lety +1

      +isitebuild well, first get a second opinion at another garage to verify if it's all the sensors to be sure. Than, what I did was buy authentic Toyota Tire pressure sensors direct from Amazon, NOT a third party seller on Amazon.
      Go to this link on Amazon
      Genuine Toyota 42607-06011 Tire Valve Sub-Assembly www.amazon.com/dp/B00GKHAKJS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yR--ybGYH285Q
      Tap on the "used & New from" link to see all sellers, then tap on the price that's sold by "Amazon.com, it's $50 as of today.
      Then I took it to a tire shop, not a mechanic shop, a tire shop is better because they specialize in that and usually don't charge so much.
      I asked them to replace it when I bought new tires, then they only charged me an extra $5 to install the new sensors, if your tires are due to be changed soon, I would wait until you need new tires, then replace the sensors at the same time. But if your tires still have a lot of tread, just wait until it's time to replace the tires. The tire shop will also reset the tire light at the same time.
      Never buy generic aftermarket sensors for your tires EVER!! Because they are not made to work with your Toyota computer components.
      Hope that helps!!

    • @Drostvideo
      @Drostvideo Před 7 lety

      Thx for sharing your experience..would still cost $200 to do all 4 tires plus labor but like the idea of waiting until I need new ones

    • @JohnathansWorld
      @JohnathansWorld  Před 7 lety

      +isitebuild your welcome, replacing the sensors is not a huge must, as long as you monitor your tires monthly with a tire gauge, that would be the cheaper way, but the light can't be reset without the computer that can do it at the tire shops.

    Thanks for the info. I went to the Canadian Tire and bought a bulb and changed it on my 09 Corolla in about 5 minutes. It was cheap too 10 bucks. Before the Corolla I had a Chrysler 200.. What a pain in the ass changing that bulb. Half the front end had to be taken off to change 1 bulb and the bulb was 50 bucks. This is why more and more people are not buying domestics anymore.

    Hi Jonathan, first of all I would like to congratulate you for your video. The procedure to replace the light bulb is very well explained. However, you suggested using Sylvania's 9005 and 9006 bulb models instead of the original OEM Toyota lights bulb (part number 9098113046 or 9098113047). I have owned my 2010 Corolla for 9 years now and tonight my left front light burned. Do you really think Sylvania models are really more durable than OEM Toyota light bulb?
    Also, you mentioned that you were replacing the high beam which is also day time running light bulbs. I thought it was the other way around. When sitting in the driver seat and I push the arm forward the high beams come on and a blue light is showing in the center of the dashboard. This indicates that the high beams are on. I though the low beam would be the one that is also day time running light bulb. This is the one that is no longer working on my Toyota Corolla.

      Thank you for your comment, I appreciate the congratulations. And happy holidays to you too.
      The OEM bulb that comes with the car from the factory is also Sylvania brand as well, I just recommend a brighter bulb from sylvania. Sylvania makes the best bulbs for cars.
      You are correct, I did say 9005 is for high beams and that is incorrect.
      It’s 9005 for low beam and 9006 for high beam.
      CZcams does not let me correct the video. When I replace the bulbs again in the future I will make a corrected video.
      Thanks for letting me know

      Hi Jonathan, first, I would like to thank you for answering my questions so quickly. You are certainly very efficient and this will help me to buy the right bulbs for my 2010 Toyota Corolla today.
      I didn't know that Sylvana was Toyota's official supplier for their OEM light bulbs. This is the first time I have to replace one since I got my car on December 14, 2009. Your explanation is now very clear and I understand that I will have to buy a pair of the Sylvana XTRAVISION 905 model to get the same brightness density on each side of the vehicle. They are sold here in Montreal at Canadian Tire for $31.99 (CDN).
      Thanks again for your assistance. It was very much appreciated.

    The oil from your fingertips will cause the lamps to burn out faster, if replacing with halogen like the OEM ones. You should wear gloves when installing these lamps.

    Maybe I'm doing it wrong but in my Toyota you need super human strength to twist it back in. I don't see how you made it look so easy.

    • @JohnathansWorld
      @JohnathansWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      You just need to make sure the notches are flush inside before twisting it.

    Autozone sold me "bulb grease" to go with my replacement bulb. Is that really necessary??

    Hi! It seems there was confusion - was this video showing how to change the high beams or the low beams? If this was the high beam, where do you find the low beams when you open the hood? Thanks!

    • @willowizmyname
      @willowizmyname Před 3 lety +1

      Low beams are right next to the high beams and have the same process to replace:)
