Charles Barkley invented it from scratch. The actual statement from Anthony Edwards went like this. He was asked by a reporter after his game vs. the Nuggets if he had any thoughts on playing the Mavericks next. His reply was this: "Hey, it's going to be fun, man. You know umm, my.. my matchup is going to be Kyrie, so that's going to be fun. We're going to see what I can do verses him." His tone of voice and face was sincere. He was answering the question about his thoughts, and he wasn't remotely disrespectful. On the contrary, he sounded as if he was acknowledging how big a challenge that would be.
Charles Barkley, following the first game with the Timberwolves and Mavericks, changed that quote into something different. He stated it as, "I got Kyrie," and he suggested that Anthony was making a bold prediction that he would outplay him and that this should serve as motivation to Kyrie to put him in his place. You see that reflected now in how countless people are spinning Anythony's words to ridicule him.
I'm neither a Timberwolves or Mavericks fan. But I don't like seeing the media do this to players or viewers. I think we should make an effort to call it out.
