No you've misunderstood the "sync" feature, it will only sync on whatever device you use if you've logged into a google account, not your ingame account.
So it doesn't matter if you loot a chest ingame, it won't be auto checked on the website, you still have to mark it as "claimed" by yourself.
Some people said there's 1800+ chests at 1.0, i found that kinda difficult to believe but who knows.
